Draft Day Prediction Thread
Draft day is tomorrow (finally) and we have all been reading about the seemingly 500 different options for Danny Ainge to explore/take for our team.
He could trade a star, he could sit still and just pick in the 27th spot, he could trade down, trade up, trade away future picks, trade away current players, etc, etc, etc.
For fun, what are your thoughts on what action(s) will he take tomorrow?'' A "free agency" prediction thread will show up on July 31.
Here are my TWO choices/guesses: trades Rozier and draft picks to move up into the top 6 picks looking for a big man, or (always better to have a fall back plan) trades down from #27 to get some second round choices so that he will have some new guys as possible contributors down the line that do not require guaranteed contract money this season.
I know, with two choices you could call me a "fence stradler", but jump in and share your thoughts any way.

#27: Grayson Allen
Buy 2nd round pick to draft and stash Hlinason
This seems like the kind of Ainge moves to get some people mad at him

Re: Draft Day Prediction Thread
Danny always makes trades. That is what he does. That is who he is.
I think Danny will trade up to ( 3rd, 4th, or 6th) Let me explain)
The Hawks have the 3rd pick. It will cost Jalen Brown and the Sacto pick to move up. Brown is from the ATL area and maybe they can generate better attendance with Brown on the team. The Celts will use pick 27 on Evans. However if ATL is most interested in a PG look for Tro to be part of the deal along with pick 27 and the 2019 Sacto pick.
Memphis is at 4 and they need scoring. Brown can play SG/SF and can also d up. He would be a logical choice along with the Sacto pick. The oft injured Parsons has been a big disappointment. Memphis is in a rebuilding mode.
Skipping 5 because Dallas will draft a center with that pick. It would likely take more than what Boston wants to give up (probably 2 first rounders Brown and a secondary rotation player) We keep 27.
Orlando at 6 needs a pg so we move TRoe and the Sacto pick. Nothing more as we are likely left with Carter at that point. We keep 27.
I think that if any deal is made it will be during the draft where Boston has a specific eye on one or 2 players. They will go from one option to the next depending on availability.
If they are not able to move up, look for them to target the best available big as the top priority at 27 followed by the SG/SF Evans as insurance that Smart is not resigned.
I figure that since I am usually wrong in matters involving the draft (except for my golden eggs positioning) I have added several contingencies.

I think Brownis being undervalued, at least from the Cs perspective. I don't see DA valuing him that low.

Danny could also choose to offer 3 first rounders without Brown and make a deal.
If Boston can get a center like Bamba and keep Brown and Tatum they will be all set.
See I just added another option.

Also I am not suggesting that I agree or disagree with any of the options I came up with.

From DAs perspective, I'd need an incentive to swap a Brown for a non #1 pick

Re: Draft Day Prediction Thread
My prediction is Danny stays put at #27 in the end and rolls the dice on Mitchell Robinson, if Robinson is gone I think Danny draft Wagner (also known as Kelly part-2).

The incentive is that you finally get a high end center prospect and if you can keep # 27 you can find a SG/SF replacement for Brown.
Again I am not in favor of trading Brown.
We do not really know what Danny will do.
Tomorrow we will all find out

WAY too costly.

I hope you are wrong. Why would you trade a highly successful highly intelligent and motivated # 3pick , Brown for another, unproven # 3 pick?dboss wrote:Danny always makes trades. That is what he does. That is who he is.

The Lakers have acquired the 39th pick in Thursday’s Draft from the 76ers, league source tells ESPN. Lakers will send Philly its 2019 second round pick via Bulls and cash.

Hearing from league sources that the Celtics are registering interest in moving up into the top 4 with the '19 Kings pick and future Memphis pick in their arsenal, but would likely want to find a third team to take on the Parsons contract and a pick for their troubles.

MY NOTE: "Parsons contract"? Chandler Parsons? WTF?!!

If it's not Kawhi Leonard, Ainge doesn't have to do anything except draft wisely.
No need to trade up.
Just use the 27th pick wisely.

yes Memphis has been reportedly been wiling to part with the #4 pick but a team has to take on Chandler Parsons HORRIBLE deal.
interesting.....not sure if any team has enough cap space to take on $23M for Parsons though.

$49,209,769 in dead cap space over the next two yeas. Sure, Mark Cuban would like to trade that Parsonbs burden and the #4 for the Mavs future pick, the '19 Sacto pick. He's no dummy.

Re: Draft Day Prediction Thread
well IF Danny swings that deal , Bamba or Jackson must be who he wants.
we won't know until the pick is made in that case.
I've been trying to figure out a third team that has space to take back Parsons $24M for next season. I come up with Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Phily , Phoe and Sac as teams who can easily make enough room for Parsons.
but why would any of them want too?
maybe I would if I were a GM IF I got the Kings pick back for doing it. But what would Memphis want then to give us the #4 pick?
Their own pick back next years doesn't seem like enough to me.

I see DA offering 2 of Mem 1st, Kings 1st, and Rozier for a top 6 pick and more likely just doing a form of the minor moves I mentioned earlier

Totally agree. I think it is safe to say Brown should be considered an extremely successful 3rd pick. Why on earth would you give that up? I have said this before, but it is like paying a $1.00 for a chance to win $1.00. I hope you are right about Danny's valuation...

Back to the topic of predicting what Boston will do tonight...
With the #27 pick, which will not be traded, The Celtics will select Gary Trent, Jr.
Not what I would do, but what I think they will do.
3 & D in case Smart departs, or other deals move guards now on the roster.

Re: Draft Day Prediction Thread
1. BPA, with no player in mind. Preferably a big, even if (for me, especially if) he turns out to be a Kelly Olynyk-ish player.
or
2. Draft and Stash, with no player in mind. Preferably a big. Theis-like is the model to go after.
The type of player is more preference than a prediction, but I think Danny will keep #27 and go with either #1 or #2 option.
We're not getting a future starter here, we are just looking for a nice rotation player for the future.
