Good thing there are absolutely no questions about his health.

They are straight delusional. His value was cut in half by his injury and subsequent behavior this year.

I hope the Lakers do what they can to max him and his quadriceps tendinopathy. (there's possibly more to this, as has been brought to light in other threads).
Then the Lakers can sign LeBron and/or Paul George. That should do them in for the next decade.
Go ahead, make my day!!

Re: Kawhi Leonard Rumors: Spurs Want 'Grand-Slam' Offer to Trade All-star Forward
At this time, I cannot imagine the Spurs saying anything but that they want a 'grand slam' offer for their best player. We should all expect them to want as much back for Leonard as possible.
Whether they get this grand slam offer or not is really the question, and it will be as the summer moves on and the preseason gets ready to start.
I doubt that the Spurs get as much as they will want, but also that they will have to trade him to somewhere after the issues the team had with the player this year. He cannot become more important than the team or its head coach unless they are willing to throw away all that they have built over Popovich's outstanding tenure in San Antonio.

Sources: Gregg Popovich travels to California, meets with Kawhi Leonard

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich traveled Tuesday to Southern California and met with Kawhi Leonard prior to Thursday's NBA draft, league sources told ESPN.
For weeks, Popovich has been working to set up a meeting with Leonard to discuss the issues that have fractured the franchise's relationship with the All-NBA forward and caused him to make public in the media his desire to be traded, league sources said.
Seven best Kawhi Leonard trades we'd like to see
All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard reportedly wants out of San Antonio. Our NBA Insiders give seven deals that work.
How the Lakers can land LeBron, Kawhi and Paul George
What's the key to creating a new superteam in L.A.? Kevin Pelton explains how the team and the superstars might get it done.
Leonard wants a trade to Los Angeles, preferably the Lakers over the Clippers, league sources said. He has privately maintained that he no longer wants to play in San Antonio and will eventually alert rival teams considering trades for him that his intention is to sign in Los Angeles when he can become a free agent in 2019, league sources said.
The Spurs are unlikely to be motivated to facilitate a deal to the Lakers, league sources said.
Leonard, a two-time first-team All-NBA player, can become an unrestricted free agent in 2019. He is eligible to sign a five-year, $219 million super maximum contract with the Spurs this summer.
Leonard had told confidants that he did not want to sit down with Popovich and has been purposely difficult for the Spurs to reach recently. Among the issues, Leonard is angry over what he believes was the Spurs' mishandling of his quad injury, and he remains irate with public comments from teammate Tony Parker and Popovich that he felt were not supportive of him, league sources said.
The Spurs' official priority has been to try to talk with Leonard to work through the issues, league sources said. That has been communicated to those teams seeking trade talks, although the Spurs have encouraged some rival team executives calling about Leonard to present an offer if they so choose, league sources said.
So far, the Spurs have been largely reluctant to give teams guidance on the players, or packages, that would interest them in trades, sources said.

Re: Kawhi Leonard Rumors: Spurs Want 'Grand-Slam' Offer to Trade All-star Forward
Reports say the Clippers are willing to offer Tobias Harris, #12 and 13 picks in this years draft.
Might be a good offer for SA (and certainly better than anything the Lakers may be able to offer offer).
SA could go into he draft with 12,13 and 18 picks which they should be able to move up as far as #2 in the draft.
Just something to keep an eye on.

Re: Kawhi Leonard Rumors: Spurs Want 'Grand-Slam' Offer to Trade All-star Forward
I just do no see how the clippers can make a trade happen. The Spurs may be reluctant to trade with LAL but if that is what Leonard wants other teams will be reluctant to part with any assets because Leonard can leave after one year.
The Lakers will make this trade but they may need a 3rd team. Who the F wants the Deng contract? Not the Spurs.
Building a winner is a process and there are no short cuts. LAL will effectively have to move their two most promising players to make this deal work and depending on the number of draft picks they have to give up LA will still be a few years away from building quality depth around Leonard and James.

No one has to take Deng. They could just use cap space or even stretch Deng. George may just stay in OKC anyway.

If Leonard was a free agent then yes they could use CAP space but if they are trading then the contracts need to be relatively equal.
Leonard make $18 mill so unless the Spurs are willing to also take Ball I do not see how the numbers work. Assuming the Spurs are not willing to take on slugs just to make the money match.
This could work without Deng but LAL would have to move Ball, Ingram, Kuzma, (Ennis and Bryant non- guaranteed) in the deal and if I am the Spurs I want at least two first rounders.
What does Paul George have to do with it?
The Spurs could hold off until February which may be good or bad. If Leonard is playing well his value stays high. If his injury is still slowing him down then the Spurs may have blown their opportunity to trade him and get good assets.
I just hope the Celtics are not players in this circus.

I don`t think they are concerned about people`s tender sensibilities. They want to give the impression they are negotiating from strength, which is SOP.

Re: Kawhi Leonard Rumors: Spurs Want 'Grand-Slam' Offer to Trade All-star Forward
SA would be well served to move Leonard before he becomes an UFA.
Leonard is no longer happy playing in SA. He has questioned the integrity of the organization and some players on the team have questioned his integrity. SA is not looking to trade him to LAL but may trade him East, perhaps to a team like Philly.
LAL would love to get him but Why gut out the young core? LAL have Cap space to sign Lebron and another high end free agent if they are willing to take a bit less and or maybe ink a one year deal before resigning for big money.
I think getting Leonard and giving up guys like Kuzma, Ball and Ingram may not be the best option for them.
SA is on the clock but they still have until February 2019 to make a deal. However at that point in time the pressure to move Leonard would be extreme and the return is likely to be reduced.
The Celtics have the assets to get in the mix but I think the Celtics are more than happy with their roster and there really is no need to make a trade for Leonard.
If Boston did do a deal they would have to have assurance that Leonard would resign with them but also they would need to move one of their big three.
Would anyone do this deal
1. Leonard checks out physically
2. Leonard will resign with Boston next year
3. The spurs accept getting Hayward, Celts first rounder 2019, plus the Sacto and
Memphis picks.
4. Celts agree to take on the $10 million contract for Danny Green (he opted in for one
year)
Next season team top 12: Irving, Brown, Tatum, Leonard, Horford, Smart, Rozier, Morris, Green, Williams, Baynes, Theis,

if we did a sign and trade with Smart, could we package the player we received with other players for Kawhi? For instance, could we swap Smart to Phoenix for Warren or Chandler and package them with Morris and others?
