Flotsam and Jetsam Around the League 2019-2020

I love Kawhi Leonard, he never speaks barely, but so glad when he was being pitched hard, he never went to the Lakers, in what would have easily been a super team and he could have so easily shifted all the power to the damn Lakers. Thank the basketball gods he is the anti Durant and didn’t want the easy way handed to him. I have loads of respect for him. Durant will always be a pussy in my eyes. 

Doc Rivers is a great coach, he has so many players with certain abilities and a lot of limitations too, but they hustle like a bunch of junkyard dogs and play hard, and most important play together always making the right play/pass. He gets the best out of his players despite their imperfections. Only first game, but Lebron and AD couldn’t do much in 2nd half, they sure didn’t come close to dominating anything. Telling sign was putting Kawhi on Danny Green at crunch time, as he was on fire and I don’t even know who was guarding Lebron, maybe it was Mo Harkless, I’m not sure, either way Lebron couldn’t do anything on him either. Dwight Howard looked like the same player who stops the flow and doesn’t add much anymore, except bad plays, like getting blocked at rim by Kawhi. Lebron and AD went 5-18 FG in 2nd half.

It was weird how much Davis disappeared in the second half. The guy is obviously supremely talented, but I wonder if he might be just a tad over-rated. Couple of other thoughts are that the Lakers look huge when Lebron, AD, and Dwight are all on the floor, almost to the point where things looked clogged and a little slow. I am sure Lebron and AD won't have many second halves like last night, but on the other hand, Danny Green won't have many nights like last night either. Despite all the negative things I have said about the Lakers, the game was closer than the score indicated.

Danny Green average 10 PPG.  Last night the Lakers get blown off the court if not for his shooting.  That however is not what you will see out of him all season.  That is not who he is.

Lebron James cannot play PG full time.  The tag team of Mcgee an Howard played 36 minutes and produced 7 points and 8 boards, 3 blocks and 1 assist and those guys look real slow.

Rondo was in street cloths and as I argued with TJ in an older thread, Caruso did not start at PG.  As a matter of fact he did not play at all.

Kuzma is still recovering from injury as is PG.  

FB points Clippers 22, Lakers 5.

Sooner or later the Lakers will come to the conclusion that they will not be able to win in today's NBA starting a front line that cannot shoot from the perimeter.

I found myself routing for the Clipper last night as "Beat LA" was on my mind.

Glad they lost.

Yep Barkley was saying at this stage Lebron cannot play full time PG, Lakers looked slow and were beaten to every/most lose balls. You need perimeter shooters and perimeter defenders to win in this league. Thanks to Danny and continued growth of our young core, we have an abundance of very fast effective hard nosed perimeter players.

One thing that Doc always preached was winning the 50/50 balls.

Lakers will be better with RR at the point, but who on that Laker squad will be diving to the floor for loose balls? Maybe Kuzma. Who else?

When I first saw Lebron last night his body looked a lot different than last year. Maybe it was just me but he didn't look like the chiseled typed player he has always looked like.

You should see what age has done to my chiseled marble form...now more like Silly Putty.

Kyrie looked great last night.

Kyrie is a supremely talented basketball player, and aesthetically one of the most pleasing to watch. I would say I started to lose faith in the Kyrie-Celtics experiment fairly early last year, but I never questioned his talent. It was just a bad fit in regard to his surrounding cast and Stevens' basketball philosophy. Kyrie is probably better suited for a situation where he is the clear go to guy in all situations, and is surrounded by veteran role players and maybe a clear second fiddle. Brad has been trying to introduce a more egalitarian offense, and there are bunch of young promising players who are still trying to make a name for themselves and are not yet ready to accept being role players. In retrospect, it is clear Kyrie recognized this as well, hence the comments about young players not knowing how to win, his occasional veiled shots at Stevens, and his annoyance at not getting the last shot. I am sure I have taken some shots at Kyrie, but maybe more than anything it was just a bad fit.

Clippers are humming, they don’t even need Paul George, Kawhi, Harrell, Lou Williams all so efficient, everyone knows their role. Everyone plays off Kawhi, amazing how much he improves every year, right now that’s the best player on the best team, 21 points and 9 assists in a little over 20 minutes. Doc is really doing everything right when you see the way they move the ball and the way they play....

Barring injury(ies), I don't think we will have much to worry about Lebron and the Lakers getting passed the WCF and having a stab at #17 anytime soon while we try to get our acts together to make a run from the East side. LAC could be the new GSW, who BTW deserved a better premiere for their new home than they got last night. Like cowens/oldschool said, they are still down George!
