The Cleveland Cavaliers and center Andre Drummond will work on a buyout as the center will listen to pitches from six teams, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Drummond will speak with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics and Charlotte Hornets, according to sources. – via Chris Haynes @ Yahoo!

Considering we just did a twofer with our centers, and we're apparently not waiving the marginal one (Luke Kornet) because he's driving to Milwaukee to be with the team tonight, how many centers would we carry?  RWill, TT, The Big Mo, Luke Flugelhorn and Andre Drummond?!  I say this rumor is BS.  Has Danny inquired?  Sure, that's what he does, he picks up the phone but that's not necessarily serious interest. It's just Danny nosing around.

Why keep Kornet? Only reason I can see for keeping him is if we got Drummond we'd have the makings of a musical combo.

worcester,

Jaylen Brown and his Band of Reknown. Might need a few more horns if we're including Wagner. Maybe bring Rik Smits out of retirement for The Flying Dutchman?

If the Celtics were making a serious run at Vuc, that may explain why Romeo was held out past his covid protocol time. Danny wanted to use either Romeo or Nesmith (or both) in that transaction.

Of course, if he is not available tonight, that theory goes right into the trash bin.

He is not playing tonight but that was a scheduled PTO day.

PTO, LOL.

Here is what it says:

Romeo Langford SG Mar 22 Out Langford (COVID-19 protocols) won't join the Celtics during the team's current four-game road trip, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.

Due to covid protocols, he could not initially travel with the team.  He is not close enough to drive up, like our new guy, Cool Hands Luke (CHL for short).  So unless they send the team plane to get him, he waits for the next home game.

No matter, my theory does go into trash bin for why he is not with the team.  Very Happy

Paid Time Off, the new way for companies to screw employees and actually hurt the productivity in the workplace.  It takes two things, sick pay and vacation, and mixes them into one bucket.  The employee ends up having to use vacation time whenever a flu or other infectious disease strikes.  The sick employee ends up coming into work anyway (to save vaca time) and infects those who work near him or her.

This all started when we became "Human Resources" instead of employees.  [/rant]

One of my friends has a big manufacturing company with an out building for 10 office staff members. Company policy - if you have covid-19 symptoms, stay home. We will pay you to stay home. One gal came into the office anyways last month sick. She infected all 9 other workers, Shut down much of the company. Idiot.

So true.

When I was working I was able to reach the maximum number of PTO days (6 weeks or 30 days) The trick was trying to actually schedule time off. I was in sales so I had to live with "It's the end of the QTR" go sell more stuff.

Speaking of selling more stuff...In 1976 I had patients in Boston, young women who were hookers suffering from all sorts of cold related kidney and urinary tract
ailments. I told them that it was not healthy to be on Mass Ave at 2 a.m. scantily dressed out in the February cold after having sex. They'd say they had to "sell more stuff." Honestly, I felt really bad for them and their circumstances in life.

So I don't feel sorry for Jeff Teague being kicked to the curb.

Andre Drummond buyout: What are Celtics’ chances of signing big man against competition?

Updated 2:58 PM; Today 2:56 PM
cleveland cavaliers vs boston celtics

By Brian Robb | brobb@masslive.com

A busy NBA buyout market is upon us on the heels of a very active trade deadline across the league Thursday. The Boston Celtics currently have no open roster spots available after acquiring three new players but that could change quickly in the coming days. According to multiple league sources, the Celtics are expected to be active in the buyout market for a big with Andre Drummond looming as their top target. The team would likely move on from Luke Kornet in the event that they come to terms with Drummond or any of the top names on the market.

So what exactly will the Celtics pitch be for Drummond and other top names that could make a difference in the middle? Let’s look closer at some of the interested suitors (Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports Drummond is meeting with five teams) to try to better gauge the Celtics’ chances at landing a meaningful replacement in the middle after moving on from Daniel Theis.

New York Knicks: A fun surprise team in the East playoff picture this year has been linked to Drummond for weeks. However, there are plenty of traditional bigs here that stand in Drummond’s way for an additional opportunity, including Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson. From a talent/winning standpoint, the pedigree here is a lot weaker than other teams as well. The Knicks coaching staff could make some promises to him about a starting job and splits his minutes with Robinson, particularly if they think he’s a sizable upgrade on Nerlens Noel but that’s the only way he makes sense from a fit standpoint in a crowded New York frontcourt.

LA Clippers: A high chance of winning with this group given how loaded they are with veterans but how much would Drummond be expected to play on this team? Serge Ibaka is a starting center and Ivica Zubac is a very capable backup that plays very similar to Drummond as an offensive rebounding threat. If winning is his priority, competing for minutes is a lesser concern but he likely would be fighting for 20 minutes per night with Zubac, making this a questionable spot if opportunity is a priority.

LA Lakers: The prestige of the defending champs is real and they will certainly be looking for some help in the interim after standing pat at the trade deadline knowing that LeBron James (ankle) and Anthony Davis (foot) remain out for the next several weeks. However, the Lakers already have a redundant (albeit undersized) center to Drummond’s skillset in Montreal Harrell and a stretch big in Marc Gasol who may not have much left in the tank. Would the Lakers guarantee minutes for Drummond over either of those guys? If so, this might be the opportunity an appealing place for him in the short term. However, once Davis gets back healthy, his chances to put up meaningful numbers would diminish considerably and that matters with him hitting the free agent market again.

Charlotte Hornets: The center rotation that needs the most help. A one-two punch of Cody Zeller and Bismack Biyombo helped the surprising Hornets all year long but Drummond’s provides more scoring potential, size and rebounding, all of which could help this team stay in the playoff mix in the East despite LaMelo Ball being sidelined with a broken wrist. This is probably the best bet for Drummond if he’s simply looking for the most playing time, barring some guarantee from other teams about minutes.

Boston Celtics: The pitch here begins with the Celtics having a spot up for grabs in the starting five after dumping Theis. Part of that reasoning was financial but it was evident that the Celtics saw some available names that they think could bolster the roster on the free agent market and opening up opportunity helps their odds of landing one of those players. Right now, Rob Williams is the only healthy center on the roster outside of new addition Mo Wagner and so there are 20-plus minutes there for the taking if Drummond proves himself worthy of it before Tristan Thompson returns to the lineup. At that point, Brad Stevens will have to make a decision about whether Drummond or Thompson is the better fit as a starter or backup since minutes for Williams will be a constant regardless most nights. The Celtics have underachieved the most out of any team on this list so Drummond could view playing in Boston as a way to improve his own stock while helping turn a team’s season around with the possibility of bigger upside than a place like Charlotte or New York with more talent around him (on paper).

While some of these teams can offer Drummond more money (New York, Charlotte) due to cap space, none will be able to hold Bird Rights on him after the season. If Drummond wants to be on a contender, he likely heads out west but that won’t necessarily improve his free agent stock or guarantee better opportunity if his next deal is a priority. If he wants to play right away, the Celtics and Hornets probably are the best fits with Boston having the past playoff pedigree to make them potentially more appealing than Charlotte.

Either way, this will be a fascinating spot for a veteran center who has made hundreds of millions in his career but has been given away/bought out by two bad teams in his prime. Can he make a difference while being surrounded by better talent? We will find out in the coming days.

And KW would be reunited with Drummond.

Yes I would get him as a rental but I would also take Whiteside or Aldridge.

Play the game, get in the mix and just go with the flow. We have nothing to lose but games.

I do not think Danny had the assets to make a deal for Vuc.

it would have been really hard to get it to work and probably would have required 3or 4 teams to be honest.

yes Ainge had that $28M TPE, but he could only end the day brining back $19M or less in additional salary due to the tax Apron Limit.

so just send them Thompson you say...well you can only send draft picks with a TPE, not another players Salary.

dammit!

a deal that kind of matched what Orlando got for Vucevic would have been something like 2-firsts round picks, Rob Williams and another player. But because of the convoluted Cap rules Ainge would have had to move many parts with different teams to make the money work.

Maybe Thompson into the Knicks cap space for a first. IF ( a big IF) NY would have done that then Ainge could have sent two first and Rob Williams to Orlando for Vucevic and say K. Birch (they have a combined 29M in salaries). with Thompson (9.25M) and Rob (2.03m) going out along with the 19M in Apron space, it would have just fit.

Vucevic would have been traded for the two first round picks ( or three with the Toronto one) and into the TPE space

Rob for Birch in an adjacent deal.

so maybe it could have happened but I am not saying it would have been a good move or not.
