Looking ahead
Hi,
I know that many will say it's premature, "it's not over until it's over". Partially agree. But the following article prompted me to start this thread
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/cedric-maxwell-celtics-pursue-two-190933893.html
I disagree with Maxwell. I don't think that bringing Porter or KAT would solve major problems that maladied this team.
Also, the price to get such players would be one of the Js. I'd say it's a very bad idea to break the Dynamic Duo.
OTOH, I agree - some changes are needed and, probably, are coming. What are they going to be?
AK

Re: Looking ahead
I love Max, but, just like Perk, they like to think they can make the decisions of a GM. If they could, why are they still just on tv and not in the drivers seat somewhere.
Trading Jaylen Brown will be an extremely unpopular move for the Celtics. He and JT are the only two protected players as far as I am concerned. Karl Anthony Towns is a good player but he has regressed this year. I know it has been a tough year for him Covid hit him and his family very hard, he lost his Mom and 5 members of his family. He, too, had a tough time with the virus. He just is not the guy I would give up JB for. Big mistake, very big mistake. I cannot imagine JB playing for another team.
Everyone else is fair game. Danny just said this on the radio last week. He said he, Brad, JT and JB are the guarantees to be here next year. I was a bit shocked, he left Marcus off that list, so what does that tell you?
I know you have to give to get, but giving up that kid is too huge to even fathom.

Re: Looking ahead
I like the way he thinks he and Brad are safe. How arrogant.
That ain't gonna happen. Especially if we get swept. Time for some new voices and leadership. It's been a fun ride up until lately here.
Another interesting development on the horizon will be right here in the East 2nd round with MIL vs. BKN. Whichever team comes up short, and it will be one of them, will be busted up. Coach/GM/Team, it doesn't matter.
MIL pretty much has to make it to the ECF to save the coach's job. If BKN comes up short next round, which is what I believe we all hope for since it is the team that involves the idiot, expect to see Steve Nash sacrificed in a one and done experiment gone awry under the guise of we got what we paid for. The GM will hit the exits as well. Then BKN is going to have to figure a way to keep everyone on the roster on the payroll which they have to be over the hard cap by at least $100 Million. (OK, I'm exaggerating just a bit, but you get my drift!)
Should be entertaining at the very least!

Re: Looking ahead
Do I agree that you have to consider trading Jaylen? Yeah, Danny should consider it. Doesn't mean he should do it.
KAT is a half-hearted hoopster. No ganas. Tons of talent, tiny testicles.
Michael Porter Jr? For Jaylen? Who else on Denver would we want in addition to Porter for Jaylen because, straight up, I don't see it. Not from a value perspective and not from a salary matching perspective.
I would try to move Kemba. I know we're not going to get full value for him but I'd like to get his contract off our books. I think we need a dominating big, to complement our small ball game. We also need a point guard/floor general (sound familiar? It's the same thing we've all been saying for months).
I also think we need to calm down a bit. COVID and injuries have made this team a lot worse than it should be. Let me remind everybody that our top 7 players never played a single minute together this season. I'm not saying Danny should stand pat, of course not, but the "blow it all up" mantra is frustration speaking and angry, frustrated people often make bad decisions.

We need some tweaking, Robin Lopez or Willie Cauley Stein someone like that is needed.

Cow,
We absolutely need some "tweaking". In fact, we need a whole bunch of "tweaks", but Max is talking about moving a 24 year old All-Star. That's not a tweak, that's a major shift of focus. If we're going to shift focus like that I'd move 4X All-Star Kemba Walker, plus whatever TPE and bench players necessary, for a high quality big or floor general. Not another bench player, but a legit NBA starter. We won't be able to replace Kemba with another All-Star, not unless they're on their last legs too, but I'll take a solid starter who does what they do very well.

Re: Looking ahead
I honestly think that the jury is still out on KAT. Personally, I think he's much better than what he's shown the last yeas and a half. I believe his environment has a lot to do with it. (I know, that says a lot ) I have seen him have monster games against pretty strong opponents. Definitely needs some heavy vetting from the FO but if he turns out to be what I think he can be, I’d take him.bobheckler wrote:Do I agree that you have to consider trading Jaylen? Re: Looking ahead
Sure, Danny has is arrogant, that is why he is where he is. Do you think for one minute that he made that statement without the backing of Wyc and Pags, and the rest of the owners????i doubt i totally. If for one minute he thought that he was going to get canned, he would keep his mouth shut.
I am sad to say that yes, Kemba should be shopped, I just do not think you will get a buyer with that contract. This is too bad but we cannot go another year of half in half out point guard.. when he is good, he is very very good, but when he is bad, it throws the team in a turmoil. I wonder if coming off the bench is an answer? Alot of money to come off the bench, but if there is someone out there they could get as a serviceable guard, it may happen

Would you trade Jaylen straight up for KAT? I wouldn’t, I would consider it if they also offered 2 first round picks. Actually if I did this deal think I’d rather keep Jaylen and trade Tatum for KAT and the 2 first round picks.

Not straight up. I agree. Not sure I do about keeping JB over JT.

I loved Cedric Maxwell. It is a very good thing that he is not the GM.
At the end of last season the Sixer fans and media types were debating on whether breaking up the Simmons/Embid pairing was needed. The problem with the Sixers was very much related to the AH signing. They managed to get rid of that contract, change out a coach and add quality veterans to address team weaknesses.
The Celtics are in a similar situation. We need a true floor general but unfortunately Danny spent money on Kemba Walker. I find that to be our number one positional issue
Get a guy to run the show and a lot of our offensive woes will be a thing of the past.
KAT and/or Porter do not address the basic of needs for this team. we need a floor general to take control of the offense. That is why Danny tried to make a trade for Holiday. That is also why the Bucks did. They realized that Bledsoe was no floor general.
On defense we did a very below average job defending out to the perimeter, rotation or not rotation and we also could not stop opposing players from taking us off the bounce and our bad offense led to too many runouts as our transition defense was poor.
Sinous007, it is going to take more time and I also think the owners are not apt to dig deeper into their wallets.

Philly is a perfect example of a team that was saddled with a supposedly unmoveable contract in Al Horford and a way overpaid Tobias Harris. Looks like they managed to figure it out. So Danny Ray or somebody.. as Arsenio Hall used to say “Let’s get busy”.

That is correct. It is DA that needs to make things happen.

Re: Looking ahead
Owners are going to have to step up to really get rid of Kemba, going to have to be one of those kind of deals where we have to pay half or so of his salary while he is on another team. Will have to pay the luxury tax
