Re: The Summer League Thread
Yam must not have confidence he can outshine JD and make the NBA. Maybe Yam has a goal of being strictly a Euro League player.
Re: The Summer League Thread
I believe he committed to play in some other tournament over there.
I would have liked to see any YOY improvement. He is still young so no big deal.

Per source, 2019 first-round pick Mfiondu Kabengele will join Boston’s summer league team. 6-9 Former Florida State star has played 51 total games for the Clippers and Cavs.
Bob
MY NOTE: 6'9" (bare feet), 250# (BIG kid!), 7'3" wingspan. Almost 25 years old. Trivia: His uncle is Dikembe Mutombo. Averaged 11.6mpg, 281 minutes total, in just 16 games for Cleveland in 2020-2021. Didn't play in the NBA last season. My guess is he probably won't play in the NBA this season either.

Coming out of FS I thought he would have been a lot better.
SL rosters are filled with guys who are still trying to make it in the NBA.

Trevion Williams weighed 325 pounds a few years ago. Showed some determination to get down to his current weight

Verne Troyer, "Mini Me" in Austin Powers, weighed 35 pounds. Trevion Williams lost two Mini Mes, literally.

Hearing that as of now, the plan is for Aaron Nesmith to be on the Celtics' summer league roster

Ben Sullivan will be the head coach of the summer Celtics. He’ll likely have a chance to move up to the No. 2 spot on Boston’s bench after Will Hardy’s departure

Re: The Summer League Thread
This is the complete Celtics Summer League roster.
The first game is in 4 days, July 9th.
Bob
MY NOTE: Nobody over 6'10", but the 6'10-inchers we do have are slabs o' beef. Not a toothpick among them (maybe that's because they never stop eating). There's an opening for a big banger. Let's see if they can fit the bill. Kabangele is almost 25 years old and has played 344 NBA minutes for the Clips and Cleveland. Williams is fresh meat. I think it all comes down on whether Brad sees him signing a veteran for the minimum. If he can't get Bryant, if he doesn't bring back Baynes or any other such off the discard pile then one of these two have a decent shot. Does Brad want the player with some experience to back up the oft-injured RWill and 36 year old Al Horford, or will he take a flyer on a rookie learning on the fly quickly enough to be able to deliver when one of those two are out?
It's too bad Yam Madar isn't here, I'd like to see what progress he has made this past year, but he was committed to play for the Israeli National team. While I admire his patriotism it's probably going to cripple his chances of making the Celtics, not just this year but forever. This suggests his priorities aren't what NBA GMs would like them to be. They want players with pure, unquenchable ganas. I may be wrong, because I think if he was an American player who opted out of SL to keep his committment to play for the US team they'd see that as a positive, but he's not. Oh well, one person's ceiling is another person's floor. There are now more minutes for Brodric Thomas and JD Davison to show they should make the club. Considering we're now really deep at guard I wouldn't hold my breath if I was either of them, but Thomas at least has 459 NBA minutes under his belt. He was also on the roster last year, so he knows Ime's playbook and the coaching staff know him. If they didn't like him it would have been very easy for Brad to sign him and then include him as part of the Brogdon trade. Or, they could just not sign him after SL. Either way there's no downside for Boston.
When I see players with birthdates in the 21st century I feel positively ancient. Bergarin was born in 2002. That's sick. He won't even be 20 until next month.

JD Davison said his season at Alabama didn’t go the way he wanted, but he wants to show he’s a dog and a leader in Boston.
MY NOTE: In his interview today he said he wants to be a leader on the court besides the coach. Nothing wrong with his ego, huh? Forget DPOY Marcus Smart, 3X All-Star Jayson Tatum, 5X All-Star Al Horford and 1X All-Star Jaylen Brown. #53 is going to be the leader on the court.

JD Davison says he is going to be somewhere between a point guard and combo guard, saying whether he's on the ball or off the ball, he's gonna be a dog on both ends of the floor.
MY NOTE: That's nice, kid, now you just need to show you can shoot like you can be trusted off the ball. He shot 30% from college 3. That won't cut it in the pros.

Grant Williams officiating??? Maybe Ime wanted him to get a sense of what officials go through, and Ime should have had Tatum officiating also!

Just because a player says he wants to be a leader on the court doesn’t necessarily mean he has a big ego.
I watched JD and to me he was just exuding confidence. Something that this team can use more of.

Re: The Summer League Thread
With the team's successes last year and now adding two veteran bench players without moving out any of the team's top 8 rotation players, I am pretty much not interested in the summer league.
From my seat, I see only 2 possible guys (Davison and Williams) who may have a chance to even be on the roster, and neither of them appear to be able to get any meaningful playing time with the varsity next season.
I can only hope to be wrong, but the five summer league games are not now catching my attention.

Agree
He seems like a very confident young man.
He was a 1 and done guy but went to Bama with a big time reputation for being a high end baller.
Good luck to him and all the rookies coming into the NBA.

I don't understand Kornet's play. He has the height and weight, but I never see him using any muscle or strength on the court. Also, it seems he doesn't understand that he is allowed to rebound the basketball. WTF, Luke?
