Summer Salivations
I'm Jonesin' a bit for some hoops and have been watching some highlights from last season.
We have about 2 months before camp, maybe 6-7 weeks before the regular sportswriters are back from vacation and start writing about the team using their press access. Until then we're dealing with amateurs writing mostly crap because they're not on the inside and don't have access to the locker rooms nor the front office. These films are realities, carefully curated but real at least, and not the minimal maunderings of mindless manuscripters (how's that for an alliteration?).
We still need someone besides Kabengele for a 3rd center. HOWEVER, if we can get 30mpg (he averaged 29.6mpg last season) for more than the 61 games The Time Lord played in last year the need will diminish.
Especially if we get what he did last year. When you watch this film pay attention to how much ground Williams can cover. He is SO mobile, he was sometimes out at the arc defending someone and was still able to get to the rim in time to block a shot.

Still some unfinished business for Brad as he builds out the roster.
I wonder what is happening with Matt Ryan and Brodric Thomas.
Thomas is a RFA and Ryan is UFA. The Celtics could withdraw the QO that they made to Thomas. The offer is for one year at $1.576 million. If he signs the offer he would get a spot on our 15 man roster. He is probably looking for a 2 year deal. That is a gamble because the Celtics offer could go away and he could be left with no other offers.
Things have slowed down since the initial FA signings across the league.
Is it probable that Boston will not make a decision about their center needs until after preseason?
The Kornet contract is really a training camp deal. He still has to make the team.
I read somewhere that the Kabangele 2-way deal may be a temporary landing spot.
A lot will depend on how some of these guys perform in training camp and in preseason.

Cool, work out muscles while minimizing impact on joints!! If I had this kind facility available, my athletic life would have been expanded by 10 years. (Not telling you all when it ended.)

I like the block at ~39 seconds where makes the block, runs it down and in one fluid motion makes that crafty little behind the back pass to Smart.

Boston Celtics officially announce preseason schedule for 2022-23 campaign
Justin Quinn
Wed, August 3, 2022 at 5:00 AM
The Boston Celtics have officially announced their preseason schedule for the 2022-23 campaign, which will kick off on Sunday, October 2 at TD Garden after an eventful summer that saw the Celtics add two major supporting pieces in point guard Malcolm Brogdon and veteran forward Danilo Gallinari on top of whatever players make the final roster spots in training camp.
Bolstering a squad that came within two wins of the 2022 NBA Championship, the Celtics hope to make a run at the 2023 title with it all starting on their home court. The four-game exhibition series is presented by sponsor Jet Blue and features two home and two away contests split between two opponents.
All games will be available for broadcast on NBC Sports Boston or 98.5 The Sports Hub for TV and radio, respectively, as well as streamed live on the MyTeams app, and will include one contest played in Montreal as part of the league’s NBA Canada slate. Let’s take a look at the schedule of games.
October 2 - Charlotte Hornets - 1pm ET - TD Garden - Boston, MA
October 5 - Toronto Raptors - 7:30pm ET - TD Garden - Boston ,MA
October 7 - Charlotte Hornets - 7:30 pm ET - Greensboro Coliseum, NC
Friday, October 14 - Toronto Raptors - 7pm ET - Bell Centre, Montreal

MY NOTE: One of the great side-effects of playing deep into the playoffs is that the off-season feels really short. We barely finished playing and it was Draft Day. Then a week after that was summer league. A few weeks after that and they're publishing the preseason sechedule. If the first game is October 2nd then camps probably open a week earlier, so let's say Media Day is Monday 9/26 and the first day of actual camp is 9/27. That gives them 6 days of workouts before that game. Sounds about right, huh? If I'm right then Media Day is 54 days away. Players will start trickling into Boston to start working out 2-3 weeks before that. That means there's around 6 weeks to go, and the regular sportswriters will start ginning up the hype train a week or so before that. Just flying by...

Not a Celtic, I know, but one of the all-time great centers.
He didn't come to the NBA until he was already 31 and had leg issues that took away his mobility. When he was young and playing on the Soviet national team? Wow.
7'3", 280# with Bird's passing.

I think the saddest part of losing the GSW series was not getting a ring for Al. He worked his heart out this year, who knows what the future will be for him. I just wish he would have gotten that title he so wanted, not just for him but for all the young guys he has helped along the way

Drew Hanlen, trainer for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, talks about offseason goals for his star client
Justin Quinn

After the longest slate of high-level basketball of Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum’s career and in the shortest offseason yet he’s seen after a trip to the 2022 NBA Finals, the St. Louis native is putting in work to grow his game and change his body for the season ahead.
With his Celtics having designs on not only getting back to the Finals but winning them, addressing the weak points in his game and the aspects of his physique most needing attention in the short weeks available will be something of a balancing act for Tatum and his trainer Drew Hanlen.
But it’s a challenge both have embraced earnestly, which Hanlen spoke at length about in a recent interview with the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy.
“You need him to move well, you need him to stay lower which is a flexibility thing, get stronger for injury prevention, while also improving his cardio,” explained Hanlen of what Tatum most needed to focus on.
“(T)hat’s a hard thing to throw into a blender and come out with the perfect smoothie.”
“We thought he added too much weight last summer,” added Tatum’s trainer. “We loved the strength he added but thought the weight was slowing him down a little bit at the beginning of last season.”
“But once he got back down to the same playing weight, but continued to have the strength he developed, we thought that was a good place for his body to be at. It’s not necessarily about him bulking up or anything. It’s him continuing to figure out what’s the best combination of speed and size, which is a balance players have to play around with throughout their career.”
“The goal is to add strength,” suggested Hanlen. “We’re not worried about what he weighs.”
“The goal is to be stronger while continuing to move better,” he clarified. “Another big thing is flexibility so he can play lower and continue to be stronger, stay lower.”
“Another thing is cardio, so he can be in great shape with all of the minutes they need him to play. There’s a fine line, a weird line, not a black and white thing because there are so many moving parts.”
Tatum, known for his strong and consistent work ethic, is seen by his trainer as being more motivated than ever because of how close he and the Celtics were to winning it all in 2022.
“It’s also added more fuel to the fire because he was so close,” explained Hanlen. “He saw it. It was right in front of him. Now you know it’s not only realistic, but it’s closer than you think.”
