A very impactful experience for Jayson and his mom. It is a reminder that over 1/2 million people in this country are homeless.
When I read stories like this it brings me back to the 1950's growing up in Boston. We had more than our share of economic trauma. Children feel badly. However, there is a resiliency about children where they find a way to make the most out of a tenuous situation.
I remember when we did not have much at all to eat. Me and my older sister went on a scavenger hunt around the house to find enough money to buy a loaf of bread. Our efforts paid off because we found 18 pennies and that was all that we needed to buy a loaf of bread. Mind you, we did not have anything to turn this into an enticing sandwich. I remember we had a jar of sandwich spread so we made sandwiches. I guess you could call it a 'wish I sandwich'. (Wish I had some meat)

Ahh the good ole bad days where a Spinales 25 Cent Spuckie fed a family of four. Where my pocket spending money came from finding and cashing in empty RC Cola bottles. Where my twin and I took a year to save all of $13 between us and take the Orange line train to Forest Hills Factory Outlet and somehow manage to buy everyone in the entire family a Christmas gift.
One pleasant memory was my Mom somehow coming up with $3 so I could attend a Celtics vs Cincinnati Royals Sunday afternoon basketball game. 2$ went for the ticket, 20 cents for the train ride to and from the Garden and the rest for one coke and a box of popcorn.

Great story Ktron, must have been a good game too. Did the Royals have Oscar and Jerry Lucas?

C17, Yes they were. I believe Wayne Embry was their center at the time along with Tom Hawkins I think the other guard was Adrian Smith and who can forget Arlen “Bucky” Bockhorn! Cincinnati had a very good team and gave the C’s al they could handle. I remember Red saying that Oscar Robertson was a favorite player of his. He loved O and I completely understand why.
I like Lucas as well. He’s got a few books out on Memory systems. Based on one book I read of his, I feel that learning how to remember should be a course taught in schools. Lucas developed some amazing techniques.

It's kind of f'd up that some people can't afford food and shelter while others spend millions to shoot themselves into space (though just barely....)
