Mazzulla has defended the defensive unit for most of this year, pointing to the numbers. #Celtics started the year #9 in defense during their 21-5 start. Up from 22nd in OCT, 15th in November and #2 since December began. 1st in DREB%, 4th in opp. FTA, 5th in opp. FG%. All good.

Interesting comment from Al Horford today: "Even though the numbers say we finished second (in defense), I actually do believe there is a lot of room for improvement for our group. I believe that we'll do that. It's a challenge for us, but we definitely want to be better."
Brian Robb @BrianTRobb

Rob Williams on Joe Mazzulla wanting him to be more aggressive with his offense: "I don't know if you guys heard (in my last game) but I caught the ball in the post and Joe yelled from the bench, 'Score the F'n ball.'"

MY NOTE: We ended the last week of the season on a very good note, great chemistry and energy. I'm leery of adding a new piece to the puzzle, a piece that hasn't played with the team all year, but DAMN!!! If Gallo can play, finally, and play well that adds to our already sick depth.

Good in-game coaching is uncomplicated, simple, direct instruction.
You can't get much more direct than that!

Paul Pierce on working with Kevin Garnett to help guide today's Celtics in pursuit of a banner
Justin Quinn

When it was time to pursue Banner 17 in earnest, Hall of Fame Boston Celtics Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett had the benefit of previous generations of Celtics greatness to lean on in their quest. Tommy Heinsohn, Cedric Maxwell and Bill Russell made themselves available to help the Boston stars of that era rise to historic greatness as well.
Now, trying to pay that debt forward, Garnett and Pierce have made themselves available in a similar way to the current Celtics. We even see Pierce talking at length about his and KG’s newfound commitment to helping the next generation of Boston legends on an episode of the team-produced “View from the Rafters” podcast.
Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what The Ticket and The Truth had to say about reconnecting with the team they hung a banner with ahead of (hopefully) hanging another.

Actually kind of glad JT didn't make the MVP Short List with Jokic, Embiid and Giannis. Hope he takes that slap in the face the wrong way....
We'll see starting in about an hour and a half.

And the Rockets won the tiebreaker against the Spurs. So the Celts get the #33 pick. Cool!

Jayson Tatum is now only the 2nd player in Boston Celtic history to score 500+ points in multiple playoffs.
The other is Larry Legend.

Paul Pierce doesn't look right. Looks like he has some substance issues. That will be really sad; he is my favorite Celtic. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, something is not right with Pierce.
I won’t speculate, but his act on his recent podcast with KG was disturbing and sadly has become something of a pattern.

Re: Celtic Tidbits
Pierce has made a fool of himself in the past few weeks. I guess he was on a show with KG and jumped into a streaming of the fourth Nuggets game. He was high, had some girl on there that he kept making out with, and slurring his words Check a Stephen A post on this He was quite upset and said he almost felt sorry for Pierce and the way he was acting. KG will quietly either distance himself from this or step in and help him straighten out. Let's hope the latter, because Pierce has been off the rails for a while

NY what are you referring to? Which podcast? The last one i saw was last week when they were talking about the Heat series. I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary with Paul.
Paul does likes weed. Lots of weed. Lots of NBA players puff puff too. With Paul I don't think there is anything more than that.
Lets hope not.

Re: Celtic Tidbits
I have to find this piece yall are talking about. Pierce is loving his days of being a bachelor again. I hope it’s not getting out of hand.
Also let’s not assume KG is an Altar boy. He’s far from it.
PS. And since when is Stephen A Smith judge and jury? He doesn’t care about Paul Pierce. He’s using it to gas himself up like he always does.
Don’t get me started on his off the grid shenanigans.
I could do an entire thread on his sneaky a$$.

Re: Celtic Tidbits
Okay, i checked out the stream and yes Paul was off the chain.
The issue for me is not what he is saying and doing,
Players Wild out all the time.
Paul looked like he’s been puffing and of course drinking.
The issue for me is that he’s doing it for the entire world to see.
Yes, Paul needs to watch what he allows or puts out there.
Keep that shizzle behind closed doors. Please.

Re: Celtic Tidbits
Just for reference, here is where Jaylen said he has issues with the Celtics fan base.
Just an observation, nothing has changed. Some fans still want to make it personal for whatever reason when the Celtic do not perform to their satisfaction.
And the "shut up and dribble" folks? We still get some of that as well. Recently.
IMO, Jaylen is not one to over-share some of the problems he has with the fan base. But, when he does, we should at least listen and understand the issues from his viewpoint.

The first paragraph, yeah, I see that, here and elsewhere. Bad performances turn into character flaws.
The second paragraph? Sadly, there is widespread evidence to that statement in the facebook comments section.
I agree with Ktron, it is not so much of a Celtics-Nation thing. It's everywhere and social media often amplifies the noise.

I agree that both of these issues are not unique to Boston. My point is that this behavior was pointed out to be a problem, by a Boston Celtic player, with his own words.
We fans can do better, IMO. Shouldn't we try?

Re: Celtic Tidbits
Respectfully, I don’t think ‘Wherever you go there you are’ applies here.
That would imply that Jaylen is the one with the problem.
Agree, the nonsense he and other players have to put with is not exclusive to the Boston area.

What it implies that the problem is countrywide I am not blaming him for anything. Period. I have said repeatedly, I admire this kid and Boston should be proud to have such a spokesperson representing this generation. Sorry if you feel offended. That is the way you interpreted it. Gyso, you are right, we should be doing more

Re: Celtic Tidbits
Jaylen is speaking from his own direct personal experience of some Celtics fans, and that should be 100% respected. We are the ones generalizing.
Jaylen deserves the respect due him. A max contract and widespread verbal fan support. Period.

Re: Celtic Tidbits
I think there is often frustration and pushback from those in the public eye ramming their opinions down everyone’s throat simply because they have a highly visible platform. This may be especially true of several entertainers and athletes.
Maybe some of what Jaylen is feeling is from some public perception placing him into that category.
If so, he’s being lumped in with a group to which he does not belong. Jaylen has been nothing but an advocate for positive progress and advancement for all, and done so in an even-handed way. He has been anything but some loud mouthed bore.
On the court or off, in Boston or elsewhere, he deserves praise for his thoughtful demeanor.
