The Boston Celtics added a depth piece Monday as they prepare for another playoff run.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the C's will sign Justin Champagnie of the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce. The 6-foot-6 forward has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Toronto Raptors.
Champagnie, 21, played at Pittsburgh for two seasons before going undrafted in 2021. He has averaged 18.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in 31.3 minutes per game with G League Sioux Falls. In 39 games with Toronto, he averaged 2.2 points per game.
The Celtics adding Champagnie fills a 15th roster spot that has been left open. With four games left on the regular-season schedule, head coach Joe Mazzulla could opt to give Champagnie some time on the court while his key players rest up.

MY NOTE: 6'6", 6'10" wingspan, 21 years old. 30% 3pt fg%. 68% ft%. A defender. This is Brad's idea of "depth behind Tatum"?

I am guessing that this guy will not win us any games this season, but if he plays even one minute he is taking that minute from some of the other guys who have been part of the Celtics program either in Boston or in Maine all season.

Sounds like a low-priced seat holder.
If I'm correct, as 2-way players, Davison and Kabengele are ineligible for the playoff roster. I'm not sure of Snell or Valentine's status, but neither seem to have anything that would help.
That leaves the open grab bag method of filling seats, and our BobC33 retired years ago (he would have been my pick).
Welcome to the NBA and Celtics, Justin. Something nice to tell the kids about one day.

Champagnie did a pre-draft workout with the #Celtics in 2021. Brad Stevens told him he'd been monitoring him since his days at Pitt: "That's always good to hear, knowing I'm in people's thoughts."

Wonder why Brad let Luca go to Utah without ever giving him a shot down here when real games were being played. He was really missed in that game that Maine blew in their first round playoff game. So, the two way guys are not eligible but this guy comes in from another GLeague team is takes a seat?? Something screwy about that setup. Also, did I read that they added another two way(making it three) for next CBA contract Oh well, I guess, just in case someone really gets hurt? There is not much of a chance he plays on the parquet floor this year

My thoughts exactly, very screwy. I think I remember seeing Champagne play and this kid can defend, covers the floor.
