I did go to a game and my tickets were $2 and I was wayyyy up there with the birds.bobc33 wrote:Ktron wrote:Okay one final kick in the gut for everyone here (cept Bob C) that couldn’t figure out the answer to the Bulova Clock dilemma.
Y’all can take turns, come up with pregame rotations or start a drawing or lottery (oops, we’ll have none of that) or whatever.
Anyway..here’s your seat for the upcoming 23-24 season. Enjoy.
That ever so popular Garden Obstructed view seat
During the Bird years I worked downtown. We would frequently go to the box office and buy these or similar obstructed view seats which were available even when the game was “sold out.” If we could see most of the court we sat there; if they were like the one pictured we’d go to the balcony standing room only at mid court. Man that balcony was cool!
Halftime I spotted those empty seats and snuck down, sat down and…blocked!
I Could only see part of the court and all that time I was sneaking and thinking I was going down there to get an upgrade. Lol

No…I’m not even
close to running out of content for this thread.

We can’t move on without…
Remembering….. ToGo Palazzi
Boston Celtics “wing” Togo Palazzi has passed away according to a post from the team. The 90-year-old Celtics alum was part of the team in its early years of existence, playing for Boston for parts of three seasons before he was dealt to the (then) Syracuse Nationals (now, Philadelphia 76ers) for cash considerations in 1956.
A product of the College of the Holy Cross — then a hotbed of NBA recruiting — Palazzi was picked up with the fifth overall pick of the 1954 NBA draft in the years before the team had become the juggernaut of the late 1950s and 1960s.
A native of Union City, New Jersey who was born there in 1932, the former Boston wing was one of the ball club’s oldest surviving alumni.
The New Jersey native averaged 5.3 points and 2.9 points per game while with the Celtics in a reserve role. Rest in peace.
Togo told of the time he took on Jack Foley in a 1 on 1. After the game he says I see why you are called the shot.
Rest well Togo…..

“Dude, I want to refrain from saying its ‘my way or the Highway’ but I will suggest that if you don’t wanna do it my way, you can hang up your jock strap leave now and go get you a job driving a cab which in reality will still be considered as doing it my way, so you really have no choice but to do it my way.
Makes sense?”

Re: The Names You’ll Always Remember & The Games You’ll Never Forget….
I remember briefly meeting Johnny Most while covering a C’s/Mavs game in Dallas during the mid-80’s.
I asked the Mavs PR guy at the time, Kevin Sullivan to introduce me to Johnny. Kevin stated he would be glad to but would need to run it by C’s PR guy, Jeff Twiss.
Twiss was a perfect gentleman and told me, “Kevin tells me you’re from Boston so I’ll definitely arrange a brief hello but it will have to be after the game”.
Of course I agreed and thanked Twiss for allowing it.
After the game, I started to walk over to Most and Jeff came over and said, “I was looking for you. Come on let’s go meet Johnny”.
I told Johnny that he was my idol and the inspiration for me to enter into the field of broadcasting and that my longtime dream was to have his job once he retires.
Johnny laughed and said, “not a chance. I’ll never retire until i’m dead and even then I’m making sure that I have my funeral on the radio during half time”.
Johnny stood up and put his hand out and said “good luck to you young man”.
He and Twiss left an life long impression on me and to this day, I try and treat others who seek advise the same way Twiss and Johnny treated me.
So…without further ado i present to you..

I remember Asst. Coach John Killilea when I was Playing at Lexington High School.
Killilea was Head Coach of Melrose High School who we played at least twice per season not including post season Tournaments.
Killilea would curse and get thrown out of games on a regular basis. The man never sat down and yelled and screamed the entire game at the referees, his players and at times road game hecklers.
I never thought he would make it past Melrose never mind college or the Pro’s.
Funny, he later became the Asst. on the Celts (and Bucks) and he was the one who always restrained Tommy from going after folks.

It is the first of September. A day I’ll always remember (and you will too)
This is the day that the good Lord woke me up and told me to quit being so GD (eww he mad) selfish and continue to share this vintage content I possess.
So, I’m putting my velvet hammer to the side and doing what the good Lord instructed men to do.
Ahh njoy fellow Celtsaholics.
Ex-Celt Chuck Connors, Red and the boys participating in their very first shoot around

Love these photos.
I don't like Scal as a broadcaster, but got to give him credit he definitely could (and can) play the game.
Wilt, larger than life. A true legend.

That looks like Chris Herren. "High" was correct but he's a great public speaker for kids about his trek. He came to Raleigh a few years back at a private school in town. Only way I got in was the Plant Manager got me and my brother-in-law a seat!

“So you think I got nothing left?”
Shooting left-handed, Bird posted 47 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists — the most massive of his ten triple-doubles that season — and shot 21-of-34 (62 percent) from the field. Bird sent the game into OT with a right-handed jumper at the end of regulation, and then hit the game-winning shot — also a righty J — with three seconds remaining in the overtime period, giving the Celtics a 120-119
The majority of Bird’s field-goal attempts, and 10 of his 21 makes that night at the Memorial Coliseum were indeed of left-handed origin.

Re: The Names You’ll Always Remember & The Games You’ll Never Forget….
Seeing Wilkins and Shaq as Celtics in a post elsewhere got me thinking: what's the best starting five of players who came to the Celtics much too late in their careers. Here’s five off the top of my head.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe all but McDaniel were named Top 75 All-Time.
Besides the ‘unforgettable’ Artis “Mutton Chop” Gilmore Who specialized in 3pt shooting ( 3.5 pts. Per game) Am I forgetting anyone?

That is a HOF starting five. Can’t quibble at all with it. We could come off the bench with Bill Walton, Jermaine O’Neal, Rasheed Wallace, Stephon Marbury, and Gary Payton.Ktron wrote:

RIDE OR DIE + THE FIRST SMOKE I TRIED…..
Way back in the day when it was Kool to toke on a menthol, I had to be different so I first tried a Kent and it wasn’t too long after that that I squared up and got Kool. And…
Way back in the day my ride or die to every Celts game I attended was The MBTA’s Orange line train where I hopped on at Dudley Station and Hopped off at North Station.
Down the stairs to the Gawden Box Office to get myself a $2 ticket and grab a seat.
Whenever I attended C’s game that Orange line was my ride or die.
It was the only way I was gonna get there.
Where do old MBTA trains go to die after one too many rides?
What was one to do with 30,000 pounds of aluminum and steel once it’s reached the end of its functional life?
The Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine where they restore numbers of transit vehicles from across the country including some 80 trains, trolleys and misc. transit heirlooms from Boston.
Bored yet?
Only 4 weeks till training camp
