Re: Boston Celtics News (2023-2024)
I’m not a big fan of Coach Joe, but since the players and Brad think very highly of him that is good enough for me.

Re: Boston Celtics News (2023-2024)
Here's a quote from Malcolm Brogdon on March 22, 2023: " A few guys told me that he (Mazzulla) was the mastermind behind our defense and everything in the finals (in 2022), and his game plan , adjustments' and his scouting reports were really good."(Celtics Wire, March 22, 2023.) Sometimes we don't know what we think we know.

Jaylen would have had to come up with something really out of the blue to win this thing. Personally, I found it boring

Glad JB did not get injured. Now get both of them through the game today injury free.

My opinion exactly. My first reaction to his decision was "NO"!!! This is the way you blow a season. Glad they are in the game tonight but hope they do not play the minutes they played last year. I would rather they be on an island basking in the war weather than being in LV. Remember Kemba? The most foolish decision he ever made playing all those minutes just to pump his ego, He was injured, played anyways, and was never the same after then.

The KW situation is a perfect example.
Rosalie, it was all downhill from there for Kemba. I could never understand why he played extended minutes in that All-star game.

Re: Boston Celtics News (2023-2024)
Wasn’t sure to start a new thread or just post here, so will keep it here.
Did anyone see the Larry Bird-Reggie Miller-Isiah Thomas talk fest? I missed it live and just saw a replay, was so well done, actually wish it was longer and they could have even covered more topics on the game. They covered alot still and everything that was compelling and controversial. Isiah was giving so much love and props to Bird and that Celtics 80’s run. Bird was so candid, reminding me of a lovable Harry Callahan/Clint Eastwood character, loved the way Bird represented the Celtics and himself and that era on this broadcast. Isiah gave Bird props for being so inspirational in going against the best ever in his list of great adversaries.
Bird mentioned going thru Magic and Micheal and Kareem, but he forgot and left out the great Dr J and Moses who were also great worthy rivals and the best of the best in those days. Those games were all must see for me as young man. My favorite part was seeing the bombastic Red in that pure Brooklyn tough guy persona of his saying there’s no dynasty in LA, it’s right here in Boston!! They showed many clips of great Bird moments, but not enough and did break down the steal in 87 and Bird coming back from a concussion in 91 playoffs game 5. I never noticed it then, but watching it again as soon as Bird got up from the floor; the side of his face was a reddish bruise just starting to get puffy, could easily see the deformity literally growing. They must have iced that immediately. I actually told my kids about that game years ago, how today a player with a concussion comes back after a week or 2 and Bird comes back in like 15 minutes. Toughness personified, that whole 80’s team they all followed Birds lead.
Worth a look….

I will check that out . I saw the intro with Oscar, Bird and Milker. Reggie did most of the talking.

I caught most of the show, it was terrific. Did you ever imagine Thomas falling all over Bird the way he did. I loved it when he acknowledged that Bird could have ruined his career with that stupid statement he made about just being another white guy. Bird handled it great. The whole thing was so darn entertaining. It has to be on either NBA channel or some other basketball channel. They will show that over and over, you should be able to find it Pete

Every time I think about the All Star game, I can’t help remembering how many time Tree Rollins got voted in when he never deserved it.
Sorry, just got a flashback.

Re: Boston Celtics News (2023-2024)
The final score of the All-Star game was 211-186, the East won. What a freaking joke. I'm glad I spent that time wisely flossing my teeth.
Dame won MVP for 39 points on 14-26, 11-23 from 3, in 28 minutes. Halliburton was 2nd in voting with 32 points on 11-15, 10-14 from 3, in 27 minutes. Both Dame and Halliburton were on the West team.
Meanwhile Jaylen Brown, who was on the WINNING TEAM, scored 36 on 15-23, 6-12 from 3, in just 22 minutes. Do you think if Jaylen played 6 more minutes (which I am glad he did not) he could have scored 3+ more points and outscored Dame? I haven't seen an instance of the MVP going to a player on the losing team since Jerry West in the 1969 NBA Finals.
I'm leaving Cuenca today, flying to Quito tonight and then grabbing a VERY early flight to the Galapagos. My hotel ALLEGEDLY has internet, but I somehow doubt it will be good enough for me to watch games. Fingers crossed I'm hoping I'm being overly pessimistic. The Galapagos are 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador. I'm assuming their communications are via satellite, so maybe the speeds will be good. I will check in when and if possible.

Boston Celtics
@celtics
greatness
Bob
MY NOTE: Bird is leaning in slightly, and Tatum is wearing sneakers that might give him a little extra than Bird's shoes, but it sure does look like Jayson Tatum is at least 2" taller than 6'9" Larry Bird, doesn't it? Forget about the top of their heads, Jayson has more hair, look at their eyes. Tatum's eyes look at least 2", maybe even more, higher than Bird's.

No doubt, Tatum is taller, but, remember, Larry is alot older and has had back surgery, that could have some reason why he is shorter even though he always was listed as 6'9". I just cannot believe it took this long for them to meet

Glad you saw it and enjoyed it. Bird was being Bird and his insights on the game were must see, calling the game simple and how the ball has to be shared, but it always finds the best player. I wish since Reggie was giving so much respect to his coaches, Larry and IT, I wish Reggie would have asked him how Red influenced Larry’s game and any Red stories that stand out. I also would have liked to hear a Chuck Daly story from Isiah. I also would have loved to hear Bird discuss the loss of Len Bias and what he thought of his game if he made it to the NBA. Like I said I wish that show went even longer.

Tatum has definitely grown too, I noticed he is as tall as Al pretty much and he can rebound pretty well now, kind of Rodman like. I’d say the kid is a legit 6’10” now. I hope to see some 20 rebound games from him, pretty amazing how Larry used to do that in big games with his very average jumping ability.

Re: Boston Celtics News (2023-2024)
I know what you mean. The further we get away from Red's memory, the less the new generation finds out about his impact on the game and the players he coached. With the passing of every player, we lose a little more insight into what made the game what it is today. Sometimes, even though this was an "Indiana" theme, I wish the one asking the questions was older and had a little more connection to the era and the players he was questioning. I, too, could have listened forever. What were Bird's real thoughts on Walton, and Maxwell, for that matter? Too many questions, too little time!

Cow,
"he can rebound pretty well now, kind of Rodman like'? Really? This was a joke, right? Tatum is a pretty good rebounder but he reminds you of The Worm?!
Tatum is averaging 8.6 rebounds in 35.8mpg this year, the year you think he's "kind of Rodman like".
In Rodman's last season he averaged 14.3rpg in 32.4mpg. That was an off year for him. In his defense he was 38 freaking years old.
