Re: Member News (An Ongoing Thread)
I just returned from a day at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America hospital in Philly where I went to interview their staff for an article in Acupuncture Today. Let me state categorically here that if any of you or your loved ones develop any form of cancer that has a difficult prognosis, CTCA is the best place to go in America, period, bar none. MD Anderson, Sloan Kettering, Dana Farber, and Mass General don't hold a candle to CTCA when it comes to the quality of integrative care offered and the results treating otherwise terminal cases. CTCA has hospitals in Chicago, Seattle, Tulsa, Philadelphia, and Phoenix.
Re: Member News (An Ongoing Thread)
Worcester and others,
Just to illustrate how potentially powerful a thread like this one can be, I just phoned Cancer Treatment Centers of America (which was recommended by Worcester above). While they were very nice and very eager to help, it turned out that Jeb would not quite be a match for them given his insurance situation.
But they, in turn, referred me to the National Cancer Institute, which (among other things) has a data base for services of all kinds. A woman at the National Cancer Institute stayed on the line with me for nearly an hour, dictating names, phone numbers and websites of organizations that can potentially can partially or fully meet jeb's needs at this time. She listed 20 over the phone and will be emailing other to me.
Jeb will be overwhelmed at all of these possibilities, as his phone calls to date have not yielded much of a positive nature. For anyone with a cancer-related situation, please do not hesitate to call the National Cancer Institute for helpful information. 800-422-6237

Jeb is more than welcome to email me directly, and I'll give him all the free advice I can that might impact his situation. Advanced as CTCA is, they're still not allowed to implement some strategies the FDA has yet to approve which Germany and Japan use on a regular basis - safe, effective, and inexpensivefor home use. They can be powerful adjuncts to conventional cancer care.

I'm sure Jeb will read this and keep it in mind. First, it seems that a priority is to get a definitive diagnosis.

A SOURCE OF ALL-TIME CELTICS VIDEOS
I'm posting this on behalf of Ed Agwit, who is my source of old Celtics video. He has newer video too.
Hello Fellow Celtics Fans --
I have an extensive collection of old (and new) Celtics games on dvd, dating back to the early 1960's. I am always on the lookout for additions to my collection, if you have any old tapes stashed away in the attic.....
The highlights of my collection include (but are not limited to)....
Several games from the 60's, Russell, Cooz, Heinsohn, Sam, KC, etc.
The complete 1976 Finals series vs Phoenix, including the famous triple overtime classic.
Havlicek's farewell game.
Numerous Bird Rookie year games, several including Pistol Pete.
The entire 1981 Eastern Conference Finals vs the Sixers, Celtics come back from a 3-1 deficit.
The entire 1981 Finals series vs Houston, first title of the Bird era.
The entire 1984 Finals series vs the Lakers, a classic 7 game victory for the Celtics.
The entire playoff run of the 1986 Champion Celtics, the greatest basketball team of all time, in my humble opinion. Bird, Mchale, Parish, Ainge, DJ, Walton, Sichting, Wedman.
The entire 1987 Eastern Conference Finals vs the hated Pistons, including Parish flooring Laimbeer, and of course, "The Steal."
The entire 2008 Championship season, every regular season game, every playoff game. The New Big Three.
Many entertaining regular season games throughout the years. Just to name a few, Bird's 60 point game, The Bird-Dr J brawl, many great battles vs Magic and Kareem, and Dr J, lots of high scoring Bird games.
The list goes on and on. If any of this is of interest to you, please feel free to drop me a line at edagwit@aol.com.

Hi Worcester,
I'm feel very sorry about Jeb's situation.
In Germany as in all of Europe, Canada and most industrial nations we have national health care.
When I tell people here that in the States many people go broke and lose their homes trying to keep up with their medical bills or that the are denied treatment because they can't afford it, I'm met with stares of disbelief. I just hope that some day the American people will wake up and realize how they have for ever been lied to by the health insurance companies and their political allies. You all work hard and deserve much more than you ever receive.
It's great and right that you are all doing your best to help Jeb, but changing the health care system is the only long term answer.

A LITTLE TASTE OF PARIS
Some of you know that my wife and I have spent many years working on a book about Paris, France. As of today, Paris Demystified is actually on the market.
It is not a traditional guidebook but is intended (1) to help people confront challenges presented by Paris that can leave visitors frustrated, exhausted, and experiencing only a fraction of what they had hoped for, (2) to guide people in the process of bonding emotionally with the City of Light and loving it as much as we do, and (3) to encourage previous Paris visitors to broaden their Paris horizons. There's even an in-depth section aimed at reassuring the skeptics who are concerned about Parisians' reputation for arrogance and aloofness. (It's called, "But What about All Those Parisians?")
If anyone wants to read about the book, at this point it's available only through the website of the publisher. (It will very shortly be on the Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders sites as well.)
Just go to www.trafford.com and type in the name of the book (Paris Demystified) to see the book and the listing.
We're sort of excited about it because it's been at least 20 years in the making, as we've sent draft after draft to Paris with friends so they could critique the work in progress. And we're scheduled to visit Paris in the spring to present a copy to the 97-year-old owner of a famous English-language bookstore (Shakespeare & Company) who has been a valuable mentor. Now that will be an emotional moment. I just hope we all make it.
Best to all,
Sam

Re: Member News (An Ongoing Thread)
Sam ive been waiting for several years to see this (your book) come out since we discussed this back on BDC when i mentioned i have a few books im working on too- one still mostly in the "idea" stage.. first off, congrads! secondly i'm going to be purchesssing this very soon! Can i have my copy autographed?
I just bought my plane ticket to head out to alburquque (AT LAST!!!!!) in mid january, then we're heading out to the grand canyon for a few days hiking. Im hoping to take Paris with me as my reading material- departure to arrival times are about 8 hrs each way and the trip to the Caynon is another 8 or so each way- so i plan to read this one several times through!! Id prolly read while in camp every night too but SHE just took up belly dancing and ummm well to be honest, by comparison Paris doesnt seem all that interesting.

Whoa, belly dancing. I'd leave the book at home and enlist in the "naval reserve."
Read your private message. And thanks for the support.

Hey Matty, Congratulations!
The Southwest is beautiful.
OK, who's hot? You got a lady friend there that prompted the job application or is this a hot boss thing? If it's the boss's daughter who's 25, graduated from Yale, stands 5'10" with 0% body fat, just got back from modeling in Paris and will one day inherit a fortune we're going to need pictures.
Other than that I hope this is the break you've been looking for. I'm happy for you, you 'ol Hooter Rooter.
Best Regards

Re: Member News (An Ongoing Thread)
guys here the extended version of the story..
the gal in question is HER.. she'd been working to get me in at one position (a very nice one) that she felt we'd have worked wonderfully as a team at. The company has yet to give her an answer, and usualy prefer to bring people up from within the company rather than hire outside. Well yesterday one of her employee's suddenly quite, and now she's extremely shorthanded. I'm going to take his position and then just take things from there. Will be leaving Ohio on may 1 it looks like and will begin work the following week after an across country drive.
this was actauly great news for me in a lot of ways, I've always hated winters and dreamed of moving out west (much shorter, much warmer winters), got muh best gal pal and there simply isnt much left in this part of Ohio going on economically. I think socialy it'll be good too, in the last few yrs most all my freinds have moved and since i've been trying to get OUT of ohio for so long not really worked at replacing them with others locally. Literally i was down to one fellow bachler and 2 couples that i did anything with at all within a 75 mile radious.. one of those couples is moving out of state at the end of april and the other Dood just put his house up for sale and is looking at land in tennesee..
Ny, it is a great break, and sam, yup, starting all over again, it'll be an interesting adventure for sure.
now i just have to finnish my remoldeling in m my home- sell it, sell almost everything i own and try to sneak in 2 last photoshoots here in Ohio and say all my goodbyes to family (and watch Boston jump to a nice lead over Miami in round 2) in the next 10 days..

Gosh Matty
I do hope all works out for you and perhaps even better than you hope for.
I'd had loved to just picked up and gone south or west or somewhere years ago but just too much here and now it is way past too late. Not regretting my choices but always will wonder what if.
Winters are more of a bitch as you get older too. And they do seem to get longer as you get older.
About the worst weather here is the winter BLIZZARDS, if its that bad you just dont go anywhere for a bit, but the snow does melt....eventually, and your house is still standing. Pity those that have to deal with earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricaines ect........
New Mexico the 47th state. But I'm sure you can move it to #1
best of Luck to the Hooter of Rooters!
and Here is the perfect set of wheels for you to travel there with

Matty, keep that car in good shape, because Beat's giving you a real classic. You'll need something really comfortable when you're finished going through the next 10 days. Lots of strength headed your way, buddy.

Matty,
I am happy for you and really hope things work out. Good luck and best wishes for you personally and professionally. New Mexico has some beautiful country. I was just in southern New Mexico back in February and loved it. I was just traveling through and spent one terrific night up in the mountains at a casino/resort on a lake. Enjoyed it so much that my wife and I have talked about planning a future vacation to the same area.
Just curious to know what area you will be planting roots at? Good luck with your C's throughout the playoffs. Take care buddy and be safe in your travels out west.

Hope you have safe travels.

Great to hear from a silent member, how are the Aztecs looking this year? Staussburg is out for the season but when he can go again perhaps we'll get to see him in Syracuse again. He sold out the place when he pitched there last Spring!
Finally have a sunny day but not real warm, might get to the low 50's. Baseball game this evening under the lights against a very good HS team from the Syracuse area. Marcus is starting at first and with 2 games tomorrow and games next Tuesday Thursday and Saturday I'm sure he'll get some time on the mound too. Although the weather tomorrow is iffy at best. They are to play on the new baseball field at school, hopefully!

Beat,
I have been around the board almost everyday. I just don't post much anymore. I guess the title Silent Member" fits me. I haven't followed San Diego ST. Baseball much this year. They are having a real bad year. Yea I hope Staussburg does return healthy. He was such a great story coming out of high school with little interest to the number one pick after 3 years at SDSU.
Our weather is really nice here, but believe me when I say you don't want any part of California. Very expensive to live, taxing everything, etc. Temperature right now is 75 and clear with a light breeze. Typical San Diego weather.
Last year we were directed by the county to conserve water use the water days assigned for us for us. 10 minutes a day for 3 days a week for watering our lawn, or get fined. After a few months, the water district announced that they were hiking our water rates to increase revenue as a result of residents using less water. They get you coming and going. Now, a couple of days ago the state announced they are seeking to pass a tax fee on purchasing any soft drink. It would be a certain % per drink. So, when we go shopping at our favorite grocery store we will have to pay the cost of the soda, the existing grocery tax on the soda, the recycling redemption fee, and now if passed the soda tax on the item because it is a soft drink. Unbelievable!
Hopefully Marcus did well in the game against that Syracuse team, and better yet, hope his team won. Take care and good luck with your C's. They are looking good against the Knicks right now and are on a collision course with the Heatles. Please, Please take care of the team from South Beach. Send them packing. I think I would be sick if that team ended up in the finals.

Hannaford recalls ground beef due to possible salmonella contamination
I had two of these Salmon-burgers last night. The article says it could take 12-72 hours to strike? That means that it might "manifest itself" right about 1:00PM on Sunday?
Oh, the humanity!!!
SCARBOROUGH, Maine — The Hannaford grocery chain is recalling an undetermined amount of fresh ground beef products that may be contaminated with a strain of salmonella.
The various ground beef packages bear sell-by dates of Dec. 17, 2011, or earlier and were sold at Hannaford stores throughout Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.
