The NBA has officially announced the schedule for the 2024-25 season.

Each team’s schedule can be found below. The regular-season schedule includes defined dates and opponents for 80 of each team’s 82 games, along with two games designated as TBD dates and opponents.

Every team will play two regular-season games (including the Emirates NBA Cup Quarterfinals and Semifinals for qualifying teams) between Dec. 10-16. The 22 teams that do not qualify for the Knockout Rounds will play two regular-season games during tournament off nights that week (Dec. 12 or 13, and Dec. 15 or 16). The four teams that lose in the Quarterfinals will play a regular-season game on Dec. 15 or 16.

Much of what is there are embedded links, so check it out!

Everything To Know About the 2024-25 Boston Celtics Schedule

Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday that confetti was falling to the parquet floor as the Celtics celebrated their 18th championship. Now, less than two months later, it’s officially time to turn the page.

The 2024-25 schedule has arrived.

We’ve pulled all of the most important information from the schedule and broken it up into six sections below. Enjoy, and take notes.

Holidays

The Celtics are light on true national holidays games, as they have only three this season. They will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Day, they'll host the Raptors on New Year's Eve, and then they’ll visit Steph Curry and the Warriors on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We can also consider Opening Night as a holiday, because let’s be real, it's gonna feel like one in Boston. The Celtics will tip off the NBA season Oct. 22 as they accept their championship rings and raise Banner 18 to the rafters before taking on the Knicks. Boston will also play the day after Thanksgiving at Chicago.

NBA Cup

We’ve got a deeper dive into the NBA Cup schedule here. But here’s a TLDR version: The C’s are in East Group C with Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland and Washington. They’ll play each of those teams once on the NBA’s “Cup Nights,” which fall on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Nov. 12 and Dec. 3, for their Group Stage games. Boston’s schedule is below:

TIME DATE LOCATION       OPPONENT
7:00 p.m. Nov. 12 TD Garden Atlanta Hawks
7:00 p.m. Nov. 19 TD Garden Cleveland Cavaliers
7:00 p.m. Nov. 22 Capital One Arena Washington Wizards
7:00 p.m. Nov. 29 United Center Chicago Bulls

National Television

Boston will play on national television at least 26 times this coming season. They could add to that number if they advance in the NBA Cup.

Most of the team’s national TV games will arrive between January and the end of March. The Celts will play 18 of their national games during those months, including three out of four on a West Coast swing from Jan. 20-25, after logging just six total national games in October, November and December.

Here are a few of the top national TV games on the calendar, outside of Opening Night and Christmas:

Both matchups with Curry and the Warriors will be on national TV, first at home on Nov. 6, and then Jan. 20 in San Francisco.

Boston’s first matchup of the season against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks will air Dec. 6 on ESPN.

The January trip out West will feature matchups with the Warriors on TNT (Jan. 20), with the Lakers on TNT (Jan. 23), and a Finals rematch with the Mavs on ABC (Jan. 25), all in a span of six days.

Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets come to town for a matchup on March 2 on ABC.

Back-to-Backs

The defending champs will play 13 back-to-backs this season, which is one fewer than last season and 1.9 fewer than the league average. And the news gets even better: six of those 13 back-to-backs require no travel, including four back-to-backs at home, and the C's will not change time zones for a single back-to-back.

Three of the 13 back-to-backs promise to be very difficult. Boston hosts Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves Nov. 24, followed by a matchup with Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers the next night. Then comes a back-to-back at home beginning Dec. 6 against Giannis and the Bucks, followed by a matchup with Ja Morant and the Grizzlies the next night. And lastly is the back-to-back in Los Angeles against the LA teams that’s mentioned above.

Homestands and Road Trips

Boston has only one homestand on the schedule that will for sure be more than four games. That homestand last 13 days and begins Feb. 28 and runs all the way to March 12. It features matchups with Denver (March 2), Philadelphia (March 6), the Lakers (March 8 ) and Oklahoma City (March 12).

The longest road trip of the season, ironically, also arrives in March. The C’s will be on the road for 11 days to play six games from March 21-31, including matchups with Phoenix (March 26), San Antonio (March 29) and Memphis (March 31).

Other Tidbits

Still wanting more? Here are a few other tidbits that you might find of interest:

The team’s busiest month of the season is January, during which it will play 16 games.

Boston will play eight games "fresh" (it didn't play the night before, and its opponent did), nine games tired (it played the night before and its opponent did not), and 63 games even (both teams enter tip-off with the same rest).

The quietest full month of the season is December, during which the C’s will play either 14 or 15 games, depending on their NBA Cup results.

The East teams that Boston is scheduled to play only three times are Atlanta, Detroit, Indiana, Orlando, Milwaukee and Washington. It will play the rest of the conference four times.

The Celtics are scheduled to travel an estimated 42,000 miles, which is 2,000 more than the average in the Eastern Conference.

Celtics 2024-25 schedule announced: Dates, opponents set for reigning NBA champions

https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2024/08/15/boston-celtics-2024-25-schedule-announced-dates-opponents/

The Celtics will open their new season on Oct. 22 against the Knicks at TD Garden.

Celtics’ pursuit of Banner 19 will officially begin on Oct. 22 at TD Garden.

The Celtics unveiled their full 2024-25 regular-season schedule on Thursday, with Boston set to receive their rings and hoist Banner 18 to the TD Garden rafters with a matchup against the Knicks on Causeway Street.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Doc Rivers, and the Milwaukee Bucks will battle Boston at TD Garden on Oct. 28, while Steve Kerr (who is persona non grata for most Celtics fans after Jayson Tatum’s limited reps in the Summer Olympics) and the Warriors will arrive in Boston for a game on Nov. 6.

Marcus Smart is set to potentially play his first game against Boston when the Grizzlies make the trek to TD Garden on Dec. 7, while the Celtics will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Day.

For the second straight year, the NBA will conduct its in-season tournament (the now-dubbed NBA Cup) — with Boston set to play in East Group C alongside the Hawks, Bulls, Cavaliers, and Wizards.

During NBA Cup play, the Celtics will host the Hawks on Nov. 12 and Cleveland on Nov. 19 before later playing the Wizards in Washington on Nov. 22, and the Bulls in Chicago on Nov. 29.

In total, 80 of Boston’s 82 games were announced on Thursday, with two additional games to be announced during the week of Dec. 8 after NBA Cup pool play has wrapped.

If the Celtics are eliminated during group play in the NBA Cup, those two remaining games will be scheduled against other eliminated teams.

Here’s a look at Boston’s full schedule, with all times listed in EST. NBA Cup group-stage games are marked with an asterisk.

I like  our schedule.  It looks quite favorable.

The beginning will be tough while playing 6 of 7 on the road after opening night at home vs the Knicks.

In January we have 2 sets of 4 straight road games and after that the toughest part of the schedule is probably March 14th-31st where we play 8 0f 9 on the road including 6 straight road games.

Hard to believe that the season will be upon us (preseason) on Oct 4th.  So we are just 7 weeks out from the first tip off.

I want to zero in on the games we're likely to be without Porzingis.  How well will we weather that?

OCTOBER

Oct. 22 vs. New York (7:30 p.m.)
Oct. 24 at Washington (7 p.m.)
Oct. 26 at Detroit (7 p.m.)
Oct. 28 vs. Milwaukee (7:30 p.m.)
Oct. 30 at Indiana (7 p.m.)

NOVEMBER

Nov. 1 at Charlotte (7 p.m.)
Nov. 2 at Charlotte (6 p.m.)
Nov. 4 at Atlanta (7:45 p.m.)
Nov. 6 vs. Golden State (7:30 p.m.)
Nov. 8 vs. Brooklyn (7:30 p.m.)
Nov. 10 at Milwaukee (3:30 p.m.)
*Nov. 12 vs. Atlanta (7 p.m.)
Nov. 13 at Brooklyn (7:30 p.m.)
Nov. 16 vs. Toronto (8 p.m.)
*Nov. 19 vs. Cleveland (7 p.m.)
*Nov. 22 at Washington (7 p.m.)
Nov. 24 vs. Minnesota (3:30 p.m.)
Nov. 25 vs. LA Clippers (7:30 p.m.)
Nov. 29 at Chicago (8 p.m.)

DECEMBER

Dec. 1 at Cleveland (6 p.m.)
Dec. 2 vs. Miami (7:30 p.m.)
Dec. 4 vs. Detroit (7:30 p.m.)
Dec. 6 vs. Milwaukee (7:30 p.m.)
Dec. 7 vs. Memphis (8 p.m.)
Dec. 10-17 NBA Cup knockout rounds (opponents TBD)
Dec. 19 vs. Chicago (7:30 p.m.)
Dec. 21 at Chicago (8 p.m.)
Dec. 23 at Orlando (7 p.m.)
Dec. 25 vs. Philadelphia (5 p.m.)
Dec. 27 vs. Indiana (7:30 p.m.)
Dec. 29 vs. Indiana (6 p.m.)
Dec. 31 vs. Toronto (3 p.m.)

31 games against known opponents (NBA Cup a wild card).  There are no road trips longer than 3 games and the road trips are against weak teams (Washington/Detroit.  Charlotte/Charlotte/Atlanta, Chicago/Cleveland, Chicago/Orlando).   4 b2bs (8 games total).  Charlotte/Charlotte (A/A), Atlanta/Brooklyn (H/A), Cleveland/Miami (A/H) and Milwaukee/Memphis (H/H).  Only one tough team (Miwaukee) and one competitive team (Miami) out of 8 games.

Games against high-quality opponents
1X Knicks (Randle will be back)
3X Bucks (I'm not counting them out until they're in full rebuilding mode)
1X Minny
1X Philly (they've had a great offseason)

Games against teams that can compete, but only because we're without Z

3X Indy
2X Cleveland (presumably they'll be healthy)
1X Miami
1X Orlando  (12/23, so MAYBE Porzingis will be back by then)

Games against lower quality teams

1X Clippers (no Paul George, no chance)
2X Detroit
2X Washington
2X Charlotte
2X Atlanta
2X Brooklyn
2X Toronto
1X Memphis
1X GSW
3X Bulls

All in all, I'm liking our chances of having a good record when Porzingis is back.  Not that many b2bs and not many against elite competition, only 6 games out of 31 against top opponents and 7 more against 2nd tier talent.  That's 13 games out of 31 that we might struggle against (barring mental letdowns).  If we win only two out of six of the games against elite opponents and only three out of seven of the next tier (so, in the interest of being conservative I'm assuming we don't win 50% of these games, which might be overly harsh) but we win fifteen out of eighteen with the poor teams (very doable!) then our record, not including the NBA Cup, would be 20-11 (.645).  If I'm being unfair and we win .500 of the elite games, 4 out of 7 of the next tier and 16 out of 18 of the bottom-feeders then our W-L record would be 23-8 or .742.  I would be very happy with that, and then get our starting center back.

And keep in mind we played almost the entire NBA Finals without Z and still earned a Gentleman's Sweep against a team that beat some very good teams to get there, so we know how to do it. Been there, done that, got the ring to prove it.

If we go 23-8 sans KP, our competition will be fit to be tied.  They're expecting/hoping for 16-15 with every team hitting us with their best shot to knock off the defending champs.  KP will be like a snorting Bronco spitting nails stuck behind a locked gate at the rodeo after being poked with a red-hot branding iron.  I'm predicting we flip the script there and our record with KP will be better than without him vs. last year's trend.

Bobh

try 4 road games.

With respect to our speculations on how many games KP will miss, I am sure we do not know.

Considering his injury is rare, I must assume that the treatment is as well. I do not know of another NBA players that has had his injury.

KP has turned out to be just who I thought he was. A significantly talented big man who is injury prone.

It will be center by committee for the Celtics. I do not have a problem with that. Brad's decision to reload will all of his bigs, was a smart move.

Fingers are crossed but expectations are low for a favorable return date.

Totally agree. We all said KP was an injury risk. As you said he was exactly as we thought, incredibly talented, but can't stay healthy.

If he can somehow manage to give us 40 games and a healthy playoff run its all we need, as I have a good feeling Tillman will be improved this year. If Al and Luke can give us solid minutes with an improved Tillman we will be fine.

Oops, you're right. I forgot that November comes right after October and I shouldn't hit the reset button just because it's a different month. Thanks.

Teams always seem to get up to play the Celtics. Banner #18 should juice the competition up another notch.

There are no automatic W's even against the Hornets and the Hawks.

The Celtics should still be able to play very well. Other than Svi and Brissett, the band returns for an encore.

There has been a lot of players changing teams. With PG13 in Philly and Mikal Bridges joining the Nova connections those are two teams looking to catch up with Boston. On paper everybody can win but anytime a major piece comes or goes, chemistry is ultimately altered.

Can Embid share his high volume of looks with George? How will PG impact Maxey? Maxey o f course is more of a scorer than a guy that can run the team. So PG will probably do more of that. Maxey is great on the ball but has struggled getting his off the ball.

I guess we should start a thread to evaluate what the competition will look like.

Ahh, Philly.  Until I see evidence to the contrary, we have and will continue to have their number.  Looks like they just picked up Yabusele to help stick it further to the Celtics.

I'm not sure the league or NBA World is prepared for what will be coming from the Celtics.  Once a champ is crowned in June, contending teams all make adjustments to get their teams further down the road.  But no one ever pays or is paying attention to the Celtics and what they are doing or what the players did in the off-season to up their game.  JB is the only one we know about.  Financially it's close to a zero-sum game.  It all comes down to "fit".  Will PG "fit" in Philly?  I've seen no evidence to the contrary that things will be any different for PG and his career.  Great player.  Injury prone.  Not a champion.  Probably still going to be on the All-Barkley Team along with Embiid.

Haven't heard much from Luka.  He lost any weight?  Added any muscle not only on the outside but between the ears?  Count on a tank there for DAL.  I sense a disturbance in the force.  They may have played considerably above their pay grade in the playoffs.  That was exposed in the Finals.  They had no business being there.

NY Knicks?  Thibs changed his mind on why and how his team ran out of gas at the end?  Hope he looked in the mirror.  Doubt it, though.  2nd Verse same as the 1st.  Another Knicks implosion.

MIL is an interesting study.  I don't know what to expect from them.  They could finish in 2nd or not even make the play-in.  Regardless, Doc's goose is about cooked if he chooses the latter.

The East needs a new face in the race.  That will emerge this year.  Not sure who.  Could be IND but they can't seem to get out of their own way.

I'll head out West in the next rant!
