I sure hope (and believe) that Ainge is smarter than to just trade away our starting center and get a backup center in return-and have no starting center at all. I won't miss Robinson, who has sucked most of the time.

I don't mind losing Erden (never a fan of his play), Robinson, or Harangody, but Perkins??
Who is going to guard the good centers some of our playoff opponents are going to have? I am not confident in JO coming back and contributing much, or of Shaq playing enough minutes to do much for the defense.
Ainge better come up with a better solution than this IMO.

Thanks Pumpsie. What do you think? I am just stunned but I will not give up on the team. I think it makes us more likely to beat Miami and way less likely to beat lakes

I am not giving up on the team either, but I do think that these trades, if they stand alone without more effort in getting a good defensive center, make us a weaker team overall. The Heat were never a tall team and could be exploited inside, especially on the defensive end where Perk could clog up the middle. Who now guards Bynum, Gasol, and Howard? They will go wild on us. Even if we end up with Murphy, well, he has truly sucked this year despite being 6-11.
If this is all there is, I would have preferred the team take its chances with Von Wafer backing up Pierce. If we end up with another bona fide defensive center who can rebound the ball then the trades are brilliant. But we need that piece IMO.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
Hi,
The main problem, IMHO, with this trade is that DA broke the core of the team. I'm talking about game chemistry, personal chemistry and how opponents perceived Perk. Now nobody can say with confidence that the 2 newcomers will fill the hole left by Perk's departure. Also, there're only 1.5 month and 26 games left to make it work. Not too much time.
But let's look on the bright side: they didn't trade for Lebron

OK, BP back to 115/70, and here is why.
I cannot believe we we trade our starting center, our backup center , for (1) considered to be a backup center while relying on (2) older , currently injured centers, with nothing else in the works. I purposely left Jeff Green out of the equation here as good defensive centers are hard to come by, and with the other small deals we made, keeps me thinking, Where is the sleeper out there? what is next? where does this lead? there has to be another move.

Well, Pete, I sure hope you are right, because if there is nothing else out there in the works, we most likely just kissed of 2011.
WE HAVE NO STARTING CENTER.
And thats a very big drawback.

I just got out of surgery and am 5 days post chemo so there are health reasons as well but I seriously feel like puking.
I am going to turn it all off for a few days. If Danny wants to fall on his sword he can damn well do it but i will not join him. Screw this crap. I got enough hassles. What a dumb dumb move.

Pumpsie, I agree, but am putting a lot of "trust" in DA on this one.
I didn't bring up the backup point guard/guard issue, Rip Hamilton? I really think we are also creating space for someone targeted in these moves as well.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
There are a lot of elements to this move.
The prize is Jeff Green, an absolute stude. For him to average 15 a game on a team where neither durant nor Westbrook pass him the ball is impressive, he plays both ends of the court, defends and rebounds the ball, can get out on the break and has a nice touch from the outside. And he is a two posiion player that can be a 3/4. His physicality definitely matches up well with Lebron James.
Kristic was a very good offensive player when he was with the nets had the injury and has never returned to form. He remains a big question mark.
Dumping Harangoody and Erdan for a bag of peanuts (2nd rounder) must be related to opening up a roster spot or two.
I love Perk because he always played hard and has been a respected force in the middle. Offensively he was always challenged although he at times manages to score a point here or there. Since he returned he has not been able to get 6 inches off the floor. He is an unrestricted free agent as is baby. Danny had to decide which one to keep. baby is the obvious choice.
I just do not know what happens in the middle now. How do we match up with howard? How do we play LA? As a matter of fact how do we beat the Mavs?
These are the real questions that everyone is asking.
As far as Orlando is concerned they are not going anywhere. In the east the challenge comes from the Heat and the Bulls. The addition of Jeff Green makes boston a bettre team.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
I can't walk away for a minute without all hell breaking loose. I just read through the whole thread and saw someone already said this. Common emotions running wild here...
I was down on Otis Smith of Orlando for blowing up his team mid-season, so I'm not so happy right now either ESPECIALLY since we're a helluva better team than Orlando was pre AND post trade. Now, I'm not so sure.
Celtic vets are LIVID. I guess that makes me a Celtic vet too.
Who defends D12 now? Who defends Bynum now? Who'll help KG with Duncan and Bonner now? There are a dearth of GOOD big men in the league and we just sent one away for a 4 and a soft 5. LBJ is laughing his ass off right now because the area where we owned the HEAT was at center and now that edge is gone.
Nate's gone. I'm desperately looking behind the seat cushions for some silver lining here and I'm finding nothing but plugged nickels. Can I reverse this trade if I give back those donuts?
Daniels is gone, for cash. If that isn't to free up a roster spot for Danny's next move, I'm gonna go Egypt/Libya on his ass.
Luke and Semih are gone for a 2nd round pick? WTF!! Sonuvabitch, that blows my whole "Daniels-gone-to-free-up-roster-spot" theory. What the hell is Danny doing? Where's my torch and pitchfork!! How many roster spots do we need open?
We got the Clippers' first round pick in 2012 from OKC. The Clips have improved, so that isnt' worth what it used to be.
So, as of today, our roster is:
5-Shaq, JON (surgery, out 'til late March at least), Krstic
4-KG, Davis, Green
3-Pierce
2-Allen, Wafer, West
1-Rondo, Bradley
Unless I missed someone, we're down to 12 players. I'm going to go out on a limb now and say that we are definitely going to pick up some people off of waivers or after buyouts.
Unless one of them is a 280# center with the heart of a lion and a titanium backbone, I don't see how these trades made us better long OR short term.
I don't have Jeb's excuses but I'm on the brink of throwing up too.

Shameful way to treat Perk-Man works his butt off to get back ahead of schedule and this is what Ainge hands him-Guess he pissed Ainge off when he didn't jump at the contract offer several weeks ago-Pencil Dwight Howard in for a steady 30 pt 20 rebound game from now on vs. the C's. Team doctor should see if Ainge is brain dead or on crack after this move-MD.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
Hey Bob - I'm here in Boston so I have been listening to all the reports as they came out, one at a time. Now, I am just waiting for Danny to do his interview with the press and try to sell this move to the Celtic Fans. I am sick over this. It is not that I think that Perk is the best pure center around, but, damn, he sure played hard for them and played defense when they needed him to. So much time and effort has gone in to bringing this guy along since they drafted him out of high school, they really put alot of effort into getting him to where he is today, and now he gets traded away because they say they can't afford him????? Bull.
Now, watch the game tonight, they players are supposed to be interviewed and
the coaches. It will be interesting to see what they say since the reports are coming out that the veteran's are livid that Perk is gone.

Rosalie,
Good luck to Danny, both in the selling and in the getting out of town without injury.
I'd love to hear Doc's unvarnished opinion of this. He has always said that our starting 5 has never lost a series and now that starting unit has been broken up.
As far as not being able to afford Perk, who are they gonna get next year for what they offered Perk who's worth anything? Find me another $5-8M stalwart like him. Shouldn't be a problem, they're low-hanging fruit, right?
Part of me is trying to stay calm and give Danny the credit he deserves. He has pulled off some pretty amazing deals over the past few years and brought us #17. I'm just at a loss as to how this all makes sense to him.

At this point i really feel that we need to wait and see how all of these changes play out. Knowing Danny he will probbaly sign Perk after the season. Perk was apparently 'crying' over the trade. Very unexpected.
But this is a business.
Behind the scenes this was not just about getting a fill in for PP. There were obviously a lot of decisions to be made.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
had some time to think about this, still don't like the trade.
I get that DA must be thinking that the C's got to where they are largely without Perkins, but man oh man he was going to be valuable in the playoffs.
I understand too that there was a slim to none chance Perk was signing for anywhere near what the C's thought they could pay him. (read his agent was asking for a 60 mil contract)
but to me it's not about the future with our aging big 3, it's about winning #18 now. There may be a lockout for who knows how long next year and it would really cripple the Celtics window if it lasted a season.
Bottom line, losing Perk really, really hurts the C's chances at #18.
Not a big fan of Green either. Main question mark coming outta college was that he wasn't aggressive enough. Looky, looky we have a starting PF who averages less than 6rpg, jacks up nearly 4 3's a game and hits a paltry 43% from the floor. Yeah he scores 15 ppg, but that's on 12.6 shots per game and just under 4 FT attempts. He's not an inside player (67% of shots are from the outside) so not sure how much help he'll be to this year really.
I have to admit I am intrigued to see how he plays though. Cause Ainge must want him for some reason.
It's a nice idea that some players will be bought out and Ainge will fill out the roster with his pick of those who are bought out. Reality is the Bulls are also talking the same game, and the Heat are supposed to be shoping for a bought out player too and I imagine the Magic,Lakers and heck even the Thunder may be interested. The bought out players will have options and the Celtics are not the clear cut favorites to land their #1 choice.

Bob,
Not that it'll help your mood much, but Davis plays both the 4 and 5, and Green plays both the 3 and 4. Green's role as a backup 3/4 is the key acquisition of the day.
As for Chris Johnson, my guess is that he's just a warm body for practice purposes. It's just a 10-day contract.
