Tick Tocks avaitar trivia?
OK I'm not 100% sure on this but obviously it's Hondo.
As noted there is a black band strap over his left shoulder loop. Obviously in honor of the passing of someone.
Anyone care to guess whom it is for? Figure out the year then figure out who died!
Oh and by the way tick tock...........welcome aboard!

Bob
No I'm pretty sure it's a much later photo say the 1975-6 season.
Again not 100% sure on this.

First, Beat thanks for the welcome.
Now to answer your question about the strap. And by the way I had to look this up. The season was almost certainly 1975-1976 as Hondo is wearing the strap in a picture of the 76 finals against Phoenix. The person the Celtics were wearing the black strap for that year was Celtics owner Robert Schmertz who died in July of 75.

I started watching hoop in that finals series. I was effin 10 years old. That is what made me a Celtics fan and I just found them on my own my dad hated em and was all about Alvin Adams.

Hey Jeb,
I wasn't even born yet so I unfortunately never got to see Hondo play. Luckily we live in a world with ESPN Classic though. I became a Celts fan when my dad took a job at Harvard (he worked in their lab as a postdoc) and moved us to Boston when I was 6. I still remember faking sickness just so I could stay home and watch reruns of Celtic games on NESN from the night before. Those were some good times.

Beat,
Took me a while before I puzzled it out. After I figured out the year I just somewhat stumbled over the information about the black straps on Wikipedia (not my favorite source for info but it got the job done this time).

Welcome to the board, for a young kid you taught me a part of Celtic trivia I never knew. I grew up with that team, I was 16 that year and Dave Cowens and Havlicek were my idols, ofcouse I also loved JoJo White and Paul Silas too.Hondo was the premier swingman of his time, could come off bench or start, could play the 2 or 3, would bring the ball up the court all the time, was tenacious and relentless both ends.......great memories and he had a hot wife too.

Re: Tick Tocks avaitar trivia?
Cow,
Beth was (is) far more than hot. A truly nice and caring person. I often sat next to her in the players' wives row in the 69-70 season, and I got to know her pretty well. Most people know that, at Ohio State, she was Larry Siegfried's girl friend before moving on to John. And, early in their relationship, she used to clobber John at golf.
One thing I don't believe I included in my booklet on the '69 championship win and part in L.A. was that, as soon as we got into the party room, John was besieged with well-wishers. He gave me his home phone number and asked me to get hold of Beth for him. I felt really uncomfortable as I dialed the number from a bedroom that was off the party room. But not nearly as uncomfortable as when the phone was picked up on the other and, and this soft, sultry voice purred a long "Hellooooo" in three tones like the NBC chimes.
But I quickly gathered my wits and craftily said, "Uh,uh, uh, uh for about 30 seconds before finally telling her who it was and that I was dialing for John. I went out and beckoned to him, but he took his sweet time coming into the room where the phone was. Meanwhile, I didn't want her to think I had hung up on her. So I asked her whether she had enjoyed the game. She was classy enough to sense my embarrassment, so she kind of carried the conversational ball. She told me about watching the game with Gladys Jones and some of the other wives. She gave me a weather report. Yada yada yada. And finally, John arrived and I got the heck out of that room fast.
