Next Target Corey Brewer!
The Celtics reportedly are not done, with their next target Corey Brewer, a player they had worked out and coveted prior to the 2007 draft. Celtics coach Doc Rivers, a big fan of the 6-foot-9 swingman, was attempting to contact Brewer yesterday. Brewer would fill the same role as the recently traded Marquis Daniels. Though not a player of Daniels’ skill, which may have played a factor in Brewer’s inability to create a consistent spot in Minnesota’s rotation this season, he carries the same defensive credentials.

Always liked Brewer, reminds me of Bruce Bowen without the corner three. Obviously he wouldn't get major minutes here (barring injury) however he would be a nice addition to put in in defensive situations. I would think Doc would likely use him in a similar fashion to how he used Tony Allen.

With Green and Wafer in place, I doubt he'd get much run, but he'd be a nice insurance policy in case of injury.

I would actually prefer Brewer over Wafer. Brewer did average 13 ppg last year and would be an upgrade on defense over Wafer.

Brewer is a defensive specialist and will be used like a Tony Allen/MD in certain STOP situations. He's bigger the Allen and MD and can over power.

He can't shoot though. wafer gives you more two way impact now that he's playing D.

Sam said he didn't like the idea of signing Brewer...perhaps, Sam, if you are lurking here, you could tell us your reasoning.

Bsh,
Wafer's the better shooter no doubt. Still think Brewer would have more of an impact against a team like the Heat due to his length than Wafer would. Marquis wasn't a great shooter either (though slightly better than Brewer) and is a worse defender than Brewer and yet Doc ended up playing Marquis almost twice as much as Wafer. Pretty sure Danny envisions Brewer as Marquis' replacement, with the hope that Brewer's defensive impact would outweigh his offensive shortcomings. However all this is mute anyways if Brewer signs elsewhere.

I think Brewer is a king hell lockdown defender. We are also putting some guys in place that can run with Rajon...this will give us the ability to send wave after wave of quality and variety at defenders.
I say get Brewer if poss. If only to throw at "king" tut and Kobe.

Double T-
Green better be Marquis' replacement or to paraphrase the words of Ricky Riccardo " Danny, you in a whole lotta trouble !!!"

Bsh,
Danny would indeed be in trouble then. If Brewer signed here he wouldn't play the same minutes that Marquis played (at least I hope not). Mainly as Jeb said Brewer would give us a very good defender to throw at Kobe and James/Wade.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
I don't see Wafer competing with Brewer. Wafer's a 2, Brewer's a 3. I don't think Wafer could do a good job of defending someone like LBJ, but Brewer might. I don't think Brewer's got the speed to keep up with someone like Kobe, but Wafer might.
Marquis' more versatile than Brewer. Brewer can't play 1. I do, however, like the idea of putting Brewer on LBJ and sliding Pierce over to 2. That might give Wade fits.

I see Brewer coming in and playing rough for short burst. To me this whole new team is designed after wave after wave of quality and variety coming at you til you are just bare assed tired and frustrated

jeb,
Yeah, this is looking like its more of an up-and-down team than a team of brute strength.

I like Brewer, He can help this club.
He's long and can defend the wing and he has the speed to get up and down.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
According to Adrian W, of Yahoo Sports:
Corey Brewer, who was waived on Monday by the Knicks, is expected to speak to Rick Carlisle, Gregg Popovich and Doc Rivers on Tuesday.
The Mavericks, Spurs and Celtics are all interested in signing Brewer, who was a lottery pick in 2007.
So, we should find out tomorrow or Thursday.

Pumpsie, you've got the wrong guy. From the getgo, I've been a frequent poster about the desirability of getting Brewer.
I would be particularly interested if he can play SG and add astrong defensive element to the bench. I think West, Davis and Green (and possibly Kristic) would provide enough fireposer for that unit.
Perhaps he's too long for SG. I don't really know. But he would provide insurance in depth against guys like Kobe Lebron and Kobe, should ierce be injured or get into foul trouble. It might even enable Pierce to defend more aggressively without the fear of accumulating too many personals.
My personal trifecta the last few days has been Murphy, Brewer and Gadzuric. I don't believe Gadzuric has been bought out, although I've been out all day and now plan to look for a complete buyout list.

That was the point of my original post "With Green and Wafer in place, I doubt he'd get much run, but he'd be a nice insurance policy in case of injury."
Pierce and Green will get most of the minutes, but if Ledouche is getting his usual knob-polish from the refs, they could well end up in early foul trouble, which would be the other situation where you'd bring him in for a bit.

Good Point Sky,
By the way as you've probably noticed I'm the newest member on the board. Just wanted to say that even though you root for the wrong team (feel free to switch sides anytime by the way ) I do consider you a member of the extended family that is this board and look forward to hearing your perspective on things in the future.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
While most people feel we won't get Brewer because of Dallas offering more money, someone on BDC mentioned he just got bought out, has lots of cash and with the prorated diff between mid level and vet min to the end of the year isn't that big of a difference, Brewer is going to pick the team that has the best chance to win the title. Hmmmm, DAL (cough, cough, choke, choke) doesn't look that good, and we're talking how much difference in pay?
This may be the first time that money has nothing to do with it.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
Marc Stein of ESPN is saying that the Mavericks are close to signing a multi-year deal with Corey Brewer.
I'd say that Sasha Pavlovic is up next for the Celtics. He was the consolation prize (booby prize?) for whomever didn't get Brewer.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
Bob, it may be that Brewer would be overkill unless either he or Green can play some shooting guard. I don't know whether either is fast or agile enough, but their height would cause a huge mismatch at the SG position against most teams. I'd really prefer a defensive stopper rather than Wafer in the regular bench rotation. To complement Green off the bench, my preference on the other wing would be for someone who performs a specialty really well rather than a sort of Jack-of-all trades. And, given the firepower of West and Davis (and maybe Kristic), I'd rather that specialty would be defense rather than offense to present a more balanced bench unit.
Besides, the Mavs have a trade exception whereby they can offer Brewer up to $4 million (prorated), and Cuban's not a guy to squeeze the pennies. So my guess is that the Celts may be underdogs on this one.
As far as Sasha's concerned, addition by murder would be my first choice.

Re: Next Target Corey Brewer!
I don't see why Boston would waste their time with Pavlovic. He is an end of the bench guy.
Teams can only dress 12 starters. Boston already has 11 'guaranteed' to dress if healthy in R. Allen, Davis, Garnett, Green, Krstic, Murphy, Shaq, Pierce, Rondo, Wafer and West. That leaves 1 spot available for Bradley, JO, Chris Johnson and whoever they might sign. If available Brewer might be worth having on the roster.
Come playoff time, starters minutes go up especially with no back to back games so having 12-15 deep is not that important if everyone is healthy.
