A conversation with the Timberwolves Corey Brewer
I was at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa tonight.
I had met a friend for dinner who stopped briefly in Tampa on his way to a conference in Orlando.
I decided to stay and play blackjack for a little while.
I wound up playing at a table with just one other person, Minnesota's starting SF, Corey Brewer.
Corey started 81 games for Minnesota last year.
He is a phenomenal defensive player who almost always guards the other teams best offensive player.
I recognized him and we wound up talking for quite a while about the NBA and different players.
A few highlights from our conversation:
1) The hardest player to guard in the league? Steph Curry.
He said when you get up on him, he will use picks to get open or will get separation by his tremendous ball handling skills.
He said Curry has the quickest release in the league and when you give him any room, you can't challenge his shot.
Corey also mentioned LeBron and Durant as incredibly hard to guard.
2) He was very happy with the players they received in the Kevin Love trade.
He felt they received the most they could have for Kevin.
He's very excited about playing for Flip Saunders.
3) In talking about the Lakers, Corey would not be surprised if Kobe averages 25 ppg this season.
Corey is listed as 6'9", 185 lbs. I think that's pretty accurate.
He reminds me a lot of Michael Cooper.
When I left, the casino had beat both of us up pretty well.
One of us makes $4.7m/year and can easily absorb losses at a casino...
