Not only will the Celtics make the playoffs this year...
but I'm predicting here and now that they will win at least as many games as they did last year. I refuse to go out on a limb, however and say that they will win more games than last year.

OK, here's another one.
If the season ended today with CHI and BOS tied atop the standings @ 50-19 and let's assume CHI and BOS were even 2-2 between themselves, inclusive in the standings to date, who would receive the higher seed? CHI since they have the better division record or BOS since they have the better EC record?

DB,
I found this on ESPN's site (http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/matchups). Based on how I read it, Boston wins your hypothetical tie due to better conference record. The division record comes into play only if both teams are in the same division, and even then it wouldn't apply if one team was the division winner.
Two-Team Tiebreaker:
1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
2. Better record in head-to-head games
3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Higher winning percentage in conference games
5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
6. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference
7. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed
Three-Team Tiebreaker:
1. Division winner (this criterion is applied regardless of whether the tied teams are in the same division)
2. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied
3. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division)
4. Highest winning percentage in conference games
5. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference
6. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed

As of today, we have a 33-9 record against the EC and Chicago has a 30-12 record against the EC.
We have 10 games against EC teams left including 1 against Chicago in Chicago and one against Miami in Miami. We also have a tough game against SAS in San Antone.
Chicago also has 10 games against EC teams including the game against us, one against Orlando.
To be honest, they have the easier schedule from here on out.

Outside,
That's what I thought. Someone over on bdc.com had it wrong saying CHI would win with the better divisional record, not reading the fine print.
Well, we'll have to beat MEM tonight to stay in the race since ATL absolutely did not show up at all last night. Looks like ORL gets the sweep and the week off in Round 1. What a completely useless team. Of course, the only game ATL will get up for and win will be April 1st against us in ATL.
