This kid Gibson can also shoot. 4-6 and 3 for 3 at the 3 shot-line.

Here's the boxscore, http://www.nba.com/summer-league/games/20120716/ATLBOS/gameinfo.html#nbaGIboxscore
5 players in double figures.
Sully with 14 points and 7 boards. Only 3-8 but 7-8 from the line. The value of loving contact.
Joseph with 14 on 4-10.
Xmas with 11 on 4-10.
Melo with good courtvision and passing.
Moore looking shaky with the ball.
I thought JJJ looked good, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Moore and JJJ go to Toronto as part of a 3-team sign-and-trade for Jason Terry. That would free up our $5M mid-level exemption for someone else.

Re: Vegas Summer League - Game 1 vs Atlanta Hawks
Bob the Celts were looking to send Dooling, sasha and a 2nd round pick to get the Terry deal done. I doubt they are ready to give up jjj and Moore.
Their value will be greater in a year or so. Also Why do we expect Moore to be effective at the point.
The kid xmas has to be a keeper
Are the Celtics willing to go into the season with 9 veterans and 6 young developing players.

To whomever:
Sorry I missed the game. I had a 10-hour work day. i believe the rest of the games are in the evening, so I should be aboard.
Personally, I'd be delighted if JJ and Moore were used as part of a sign-and-trade for Terry. They seem to be the kinds of players who can make some outside shots that titillate people, but not in such great profusion that they're impact players. And I don't see them making much impact in other areas of the game. Perhaps Moore is miscast as a PG and should be a SG, but there's some reason why the Celts seem intent on force-fitting him to the PG position, which is a mini-disaster.
If I were Danny, I'd be content to have Sully, Joseph and Christmas developing at the PF, SF and PG spots respectively because they continually make impact on the games. I feel they should get the great majority of the "developing minutes" at those three positions. How many aspiring "tweener" PGs height-challenged SFs, and low-impact, skinny, aspiring PFs do we need? (My answer would be, "None" in all cases.) Two good, defensively oriented, veteran swing men such as Pietrus would be my insurance policies.
By the way, I'm assuming the following nucleus: KG, Wilcox, Steamer, Melo, Pierce, Pietrus, Terry, Lee, Rondo. And, yes, I understand the difficulties in signing Terry, Lee and Steamer.

sam,
One of the points made by the announcers in yesterday's game was "Can/will Christmas walk away from the guaranteed money he could get in Europe for a non-guaranteed spot on an NBA team?". Good question. It seems to me, though, that if he hasn't already made that decision in his mind then he's not as smart as he appears to be. Would he really expect a guaranteed contract for nice money, coming from out of almost nowhere as he is doing?
Sully's lack of athleticism has resulted in him being blocked underneath numerous times. On the other hand, if they're not quick with the double pinning him under the boards, he pounds them into jam.
Joseph has the harder row to hoe. He's behind a future HOFer and mainstay of the team and a player that has a comparable game as him, but is bigger. Jeff Green at 3 can run, shoot and is bigger than Joseph. Still, he has made a fan out of me and I hope he makes the team.
Based upon latest reports, Minny intends to structure a contract for Steamer that Danny cannot match since we're over the cap. If Danny pulls off a sign-and-trade for Terry that will free up the full $5M MLE for Steamer, which I would suspect would do it (that's assuming that he wants to come back and wouldn't feel more comfortable in a smaller city, near his hometown in Wisconsin).

Re: Vegas Summer League - Game 1 vs Atlanta Hawks
Bob,
It's always interesting to learn how important intangibles are to different players. As an example, for Steamer, what's the relative weight of importance between proximity to home versus familiarity with the Celtics and the tutelage of KG? And, of course, money's always an important variable, but not necessarily the most important.
Normally, I'd feel that the passage of time would be giving Danny a good opportunity to wheel and deal. But this is a father dynamic off-season in which signings can happen in shocking fashion. In a potential sign-and-trade deal with the Mavs, I would hope the Celtics' multiplicity of draft picks would outweigh the fact that they don't really have a lot of players they'd be willing to get rid of.

If Danny pulls off a sign and trade and frees up 5 million - I see that going to Courtney Lee - not Steimsma, he isnt worth close to 5 million a year at this point.

Hi,
Who do you think is more important: Lee or Stiemsma?
I don't see many backup centers available. Unfortunately I don't know much about Darko, so can't say anything pro or con. I hope they don't gor for Hollins - his signing last season was, IMO, move of desperation. Therefore I'd say to get GS is more important.

Re: Vegas Summer League - Game 1 vs Atlanta Hawks
When I heard the C's offered Stiemsma 1.25 million - or something like that, I was happy with the offer.....good kid, hard worker, decent 10th or 11th man. But for 5 million per - I dont see it.
Personally, with Wilcox back and the addition of Sullinger and potentially Mello - not sure they are as thin up front as people are saying.
I would like to see them get a veteran center in to help KG - but I think they could accomplish that with less than 5 million.

Mrkleen,
I agree, SG isn't worth $5M.
I don't think Minni's offering SG $5M. I believe they have to offer >2M to be out of DA's reach. Unless he pulls S&T for JT, saves MLE so he can spend part of it on SG.

Re: Vegas Summer League - Game 1 vs Atlanta Hawks
As I said the Celtics are not looking to give up too much to do a sign and trade for Terry.
Besides why move two young and developing players to provide an option to use the mid level exception to sign courtney lee?
Lee would be a rotation player getting maybe 18-20 mpg and based on his production last year playing 32 mpg he would probably average around 6 ppg.
So why give up Moore who is capable of producing the same at 20 cents on the dollar? And to include jjj as well.
I do not think that would be a good move.

Re: Vegas Summer League - Game 1 vs Atlanta Hawks
Sign and trade options exhausted, they are going to announce the JT signing with the MLE. So....no one wanted to take what we didn't really want to start off with!
Question for anyone: What is the option left and how much is it? $2 million???
Lee made more than that last year and I read that Minnesota is going to offer him $4 million. Picking our pockets well!! Getting us back for KG
