I want Terry, Green, and a center to sign; priorities 1,2 ad 3. A SG is # 4.

The good news here is that perhaps Danny will stop chasing rabbits and focus on worcester's priorities, which I agree with.

Hi,
I think it's related, so I ask the question in this thread.
Why do Celtics want JT and Lee? Aren't these players similar? Or, is it just fans wishful thinking?
Thanks.

Re: Mayo signs with Mavs
Sinus,
One reason would be that they need two experienced SGs while Avery Bradley is recovering. Another reason is that, if they don't get another veteran PG backup, Terry and Lee could very well wind up playing substantial minutes as backcourt tandem. Another reason would be to add experienced depth to a position that often expends substantial energy (and fouls) on defense.

What would be best is a wing player, a guy who can play both at SG and SF. Some guys get classified as "tweeners," but that can be the asset of versatility in a bench player.

Sounds like Steamer is going to Minni, and they may be after Lee also. David Kahn making deal for both, since he represents both????

Re: Mayo signs with Mavs
Celtics will have to jump through some hoops to add both Terry and another SG.
We could still bring back Dooling and primarily use Terry at the point.
or find a veteran willing to take the bi annual and just use the mle on Terry.
With Lee still unsigned may be a strong indication that he has.a verbal agreement from the Celtics if they can work a deal.
I am not a big Lee fan at $5 mill per

Re: Mayo signs with Mavs
I just read a tweet from Chris Mannix that said that the Celtics were about to give up trying to find another team to work with them for a sign and trade with Dallas for Terry. Said they were going to use the MLE on Terry and announce his signing.

Darn, I was looking forward to seeing what he could do with healthy feet and a preseason.

If no C. Lee then is the next target Shannon Brown?

Re: Mayo signs with Mavs
No guarantee Steemer's feet were going to improve with another nba season. Remember Bill Walton? Larry and Kevin called him Dr. Scholl in the locker room for good reason. Feet are even more fragile than knees.

Couldn't help but notice this in the link from Rosalie about Jermaine O'Neal:

Good luck to 'em. If they get anything out of him at all I'll be surprised.

Re: Mayo signs with Mavs
After I stopped laughing I got a little aggrivated with his statement. He was not happy with his role on the Celtics????? He wasn't on the floor long enough to have a role.
I guess this is a no brainer for the Lakers. If they get a few good minutes out of him before he gets hurt again I suppose it will work out for them. I am just glad Danny didn't resign him!

The reporters that were watching Jermaine O'Neals workout all said he looked like he was in great shape and was moving quite well. Jermaine said he feels better then he has in 5 years. That could be a good pick up for LA at the veterans minimum.

Hi,
He said the same just 8 months ago. We all know what happened after that.
IMHO, he's done. Sorry.

I don't remember JON saying that 8 months ago.
The tweets from the reporters who were watching the drills LA was putting JON through were all extremely positive.
Maybe he will be a bust but at the veterans minimum, it is worth the risk.
If LA re-signs Jordan Hill, they will already have 4 quality pf's/c's (Bynum, Gasol, Hill, Jamison).
JON would be #5.

Jermaine - what a joker! Contributed nothing, took a paycheck, and then complained.
BTW, any news of a Jeff Green signing or did I miss it?

worcester,
I think Jeff Green's contract will wait until we see more signings, especially the bi-annual (BAE). With the non-taxpayers MLE going to Jason Terry, that is the next biggist chunk of change for Danny to use. Danny needs to come out (comfortably) under the apron amount ($74.307mil). If he leaves Green's contract for last, Danny could fill out the team, get Greeen his money and leave the total team salary closer to $70mil. That will give the team some flexibility to add a contract or two at the deadline.
Jeff Green's contract of 3 years, $34mil, could be spread out in many ways. It could be slightly assending (10.0, 11.5, 12.5) or with a third year balloon (9.0, 10.0, 15.0) or somewhere in between. Only the first year salary is used in the total team salary for this next season.
Anyway, that's my guess as to why Green has not been signed. Danny said that he will be a Celtic, so I am not worried about that. I just think the wait has to do with the fact that the Celtics have a hard cap and waiting for Green's final numbers to better fit is good for the team, long and short term.
One other really good reason for the team to stay under the apron is that it breaks the Celtics cycle of being over the luxury tax level (now with the extra 4mil apron level). In future years under the new CBA, repeat offenders (teams that continually spend over the apron amount) will be taxed at ever-higher rates. With the Celtics being under the apron, it resets the clock to zero (0). I totally expect that in future years, depending on the circumstances, the Celtics will go over the apron if the management sees the need.
