A Worthy Comparison for Green? Empty A Worthy Comparison for Green?

Good for you, Jeff. James Worthy was a great SF. If you're going to compare someone to a great player you should ask that player's feedback.

Scal's not the only one to do that. Remember Tommy last year with his comparison of Steamer to Russ? Ok, this isn't as completely over-the-top as that was, but the idea's the same. Ask them what they think. It's not fair for either player not to.

BOSTON -- Celtics forward Jeff Green is flattered by comparisons to Hall
of Famer James Worthy, but if they're going to continue, he prefers to
get permission directly from the Laker legend.

"Put this Tweet out to James Worthy -- he has Twitter," said Green.
"I'm not doing it. Who runs the Boston Celtics' Twitter? ... I cannot be
called the great James Worthy without his permission. I'm dead serious.
I want you to put that Tweet out. I do not want to be called James
Worthy. Get video, I don't care."

Informed the Worthy comparisons were launched by former Celtic Brian
Scalabrine doing analysis for Comcast SportsNet on Boston's overseas
games, Green reaffirmed his need for permission.

"I've got a message for Scal: You have to ask the great James Worthy if I'm able to have that nickname of James Worthy, because

that's a top 50 [player],
one of the greatest players to ever play this game, and for me to be
called that, it's an honor, but you have to ask his permission," said
Green. "So Tweet it, call him, email, whatever you need to do, because I
don't want to be called that without his permission."

Green is averaging 13.4 points and 3.4 rebounds over 26 minutes per
game this preseason. After sitting out all of last season while
undergoing surgery for an aortic aneurysm, the Celtics have high hopes
for him as a top reserve (and potential game-closer). Green signed a
four-year, $36 million deal this offseason to return to Boston.

So will we be calling him "Big Game" Green? The first step, evidently, is simply getting Worthy to, um, Green-light it.

Pretty lofty comparison.

Sorry Scal, but I don't think we can go anywhere near there yet.

It would be nice if he does end up reminding us of Worthy eventually. Hey, no pressure Jeff, but you've got some serious work to do!

I believe Scal was comparing Worthy's and Jeff's stylistic approaches to the game, not some relative rating of their games of their value to their teams.

And, when Steamer was compared with Russell, no one was comparing their total games. Basically, the only similarity was that, when Steamer blocked a shot, he tended to keep the ball in play as Russell did.

Much of the time when player-to-player comparisons are made, it's done on a stylistic basis, not as ratings of the two players' relative value on some overall basis.
