Brook Lopez suffers broken foot, out for the season

Nets center Brook Lopez is out for the season after suffering a broken foot, news that was first broken by CSNNE.com’s Gary Tanguay and has since been confirmed by many others.


It’s unclear exactly when the injury occurred, but Lopez left last night’s overtime loss to the Sixers without speaking to reporters. He has missed nine games this season with ankle injuries, and missed almost all of the 2012 season with a similar foot fracture.

Lopez has played at an All-Star level this season when healthy, averaging 20.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots in 31.4 minutes per contest. This is obviously a devastating blow to the Nets season, which began with championship aspirations. The Nets had some stretches of good play lately and they were the team a lot of people thought would get it together and find a way to win a weak Atlantic division. Now… no chance.

They're dropping like flies.  As with Kobe, I'll never root for Lopez as long as he isn't a Celtic, but I wish him all the best for a speedy and complete recovery.  KG and Blatsche platooning at center?  They could call it the "Buddy System."

I care about the Hawks, at least this year. That's because Atlanta gets to choose between their pick and Brooklyn's pick. If Brooklyn gets the #1 pick in the draft, he'll play for Atlanta. That's why I said they're dancing in the streets of Atlanta now. I care about Atlanta in that I want them to go on a massive, extended losing streak. That will mean that the pick we got from Brooklyn will be better, since we'll be getting the one Atlanta didn't take.
