It was nice until Eliot Ness arrived and clobbered our kegs.

sam,

Maybe the next time you come to Baghdad by the Bay, we can plan a stop at Bourbon & Branch. It's an original speakeasy, still speaking (so to speak).

Bob,

I would like nothing better.  Any time October 25-30.

sam,

If those are firm (er) dates than earlier this month, then let's wait until they announce next season's schedule. Who knows? Maybe, just maybe, the season will start on 10/30 and we can catch the first game of the year together.

I agree with what Sam said about "team needs." The Celtics need Jeff mainly as a scorer and wing defender, which he does. He doesn't have to be a great rebounder. It would be nice, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker, as there are others on this team that are adept rebounders (mainly Rondo and Sully).

From what I have seen from Jeff, he looks to be a very good piece. He doesn't have to be Paul Pierce in order to be considered a beneficial player.

We all know the Celtics biggest need is a frontline help and a better bench, plus we are tied for the third worst shooting percentage in the NBA.  But Green is a sub par small forward.

Sub par? That's quite a stretch.

Sure, scoring in the upper teens and having the ability to go for 30 or 40 any given night is sub par. Keep telling yourself that.

Just because he is not LeBron or Durant does not mean he's sub par.

KJ

Green also has the ability to go for 2 or 4 any given night too.

KJ,

Actually, for the direction in which I suspect and hope the Celtics will be headed, I wouldn't want Jeff Green to be another Paul Pierce.  I think and hope that a loping gait, deliberate game, and iso play have already started to give way to a more uptempo pace and more collaborative play featuring better ball movement and motion offense.

Paul had many valuable facets to his game.  I think they were better suited to the Celtics of the past six-or-so years than to this team's future.  Yes, he was a go-to guy who succeeded on many occasions.  But I'd prefer a player who can be a go-to guy without deviate dramatically from the overall the team system in order to switch into go-to mode.

I have no idea whether or not Jeff Green will become a legitimate go-to player for the Celtics, but I'd be willing to bet that his best efforts at doing so would be consistent with the motion and pace that I hope will become a Celtics staple.
