Jared Sullinger has a stress REACTION in the 4th metatarsal of his left foot. "He's going to be out a while," says Brad Stevens.

Reaction or fracture? Fracture takes 6 weeks to heal.

Here's the news from the beat writers:

Sullinger's going to be "out awhile," Stevens said. Stress reaction in his foot. "Not good news," said Stevens, "that's for sure."

Sullinger has stress reaction to fourth metatarsal on left foot. Out indefinitely.

Sullinger believed pain in his foot was just a sprain of some sorts. Hoped it'd pass over break. Practiced yesterday, and it became worse.
5:41 PM - 19 Feb 2015

The good news is, Kelly Olynyk was back on the practice floor. He's likely out for tomorrow night (unless he went through a full practice today), but his return is imminent. Sullinger is a different story. He won't need surgery, but stress reactions are no joke. For example, Bradley Beal has missed large chunks of time over the last three seasons due to a similar problem. Beal has an issue with his fibula where as the 260-pound Sullinger has problem is in his foot.

That's a sports injury that I had never heard of before. Pirates Pedro Alvarez suffered from the same injury.

http://www.active.com/running/Articles/5-Phases-of-Stress-Fracture-Recovery

Stress Reaction Versus Stress Fracture

A stress reaction is the precursor to a stress fracture. While at the stress-reaction stage, the bone structure is breaking down and becoming weaker, but does not actually contain any fracture.

A stress fracture means the structure of the bone has been compromised by a crack or fracture.

Better definition. Robert Becker MD writes a great deal about bone health in his book The Body Electric. DC current stimulators work wonders on these injuries. I ran six miles three weeks after breaking my 5th metatarsal at the base by treating it with estim and acupuncture.

I only weighed 170, not 260. Extra weight is tough when running on hardwood. Thanks for the drawing Gyso.

By the way,I really like the way Danny's trimming weight from the roster and creating cap space. Something's afoot.

kdp,

It's odd that it's the green bone that is giving him trouble!

With his big time weight issues it looks like Sully has his foot on a slippery banana peel.

I was going to weigh in on this one, but I don't want to further fracture the conversation. Besides, you guys break apart from the common fan and are really cracking me up here.

I'm just glad Sully didn't break his arm. That conversation wouldn't have been humerus.

This actually concerns me, perhaps unnecessarily.

This stress reaction could be something related to his inability to control his weight.  If so then, barring a massive reduction in his weight, it may have longterm implications on his availability and his career.

As much as I love Sully he is of no value to us if he can't stay on the court because he has "Walton feet".

With something like this, one always worries about it's possibly becoming a chronic condition.  Along with Sully's back, this represents the second such worry.  Two strikes, in essence.  If there's any possible silver lining, perhaps Sully will finally become convinced to shed some serious lard.  Hoping for the best as far as he's concerned.

He is done for the year. Celtics Blog says Celtics have announced this.

This is a bummer He was coming around, had some terrific games. This is just the way it happened when they shut him down for back surgery. He was coming off a 20 rebound/20 plus point game. Next thing you knew he was gone for the year.

Bass is more and more important to the team now What's next, Kelly?
