Report: Grizzlies suspended Tony Allen for physical confrontation in practice with Nick Calathes
Brett Pollakoff Mar 4, 2015, 12:00 PM EST

Tony Allen was suspended one game by the Grizzlies for what was only described as “a violation of team policy” by head coach Dave Joerger at the time.

Thanks to Ronald Tillery of the Commercial Appeal, we now know what the specific infraction was.

After more digging into the issue, Allen’s physical confrontation was apparently with Calathes during practice. Frustration clearly is building with the team playing poorly and the starting unit lacking consistent and forceful play.

Allen was on the team’s flight to Houston last night and is expected to play against the Rockets. How Joerger and the players, not just Allen, rebound from this brush with turmoil bears monitoring.

Without Allen (and Zach Randolph, who missed the game due to illness), Memphis suffered what Calathes called a “bad loss” at home to the Utah Jazz, in a game where Rudy Gobert grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds.

Memphis has lost three of four, but is still in second place in the Western Conference standings with 23 games left in the regular season.

MY NOTE:  One of them might be gone after this year.  Movement = Opportunity.  Even if one of those guys goes somewhere else there's a chance for us to facilitate it (for a 2nd round pick) or trade for the player Allen/Calathes is replacing.  Other teams' griefs are Trader Danny's joys.

No problem for the Griz.  Jeff Green will pull them through.  Last night, against the Jazz, he scored 6 points in 36 minutes on 3-13 shooting.  And I believe he's averaging 10 ppg in roughly 29 mpg in their last 10 games.
