As the Boston Celtics prepare for training camp, one of the team's second-round draft picks has opened his professional career in Australia.

During a preseason win for the Sydney Kings this weekend, draft-and-stash guard Marcus Thornton pull-up jumpered his way to 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting, including 7-for-13 from behind the arc. All of the 3-point makes can be seen in the video below. A personal favorite is the sixth, an ambitious transition triple which Thornton examines with deep admiration.

The Celtics never planned for Thornton to join their roster immediately. He agreed to sign in Australia, where teams end their seasons early. The arrangement could allow the rookie to return stateside for the end of the coming campaign, potentially with Boston's D-League club.

Thornton was up and down with the Celtics summer league squad earlier this offseason, following long stretches of silence with powerful scoring bursts. Though he will still need plenty of improvement to force his way into Boston's future plans, he does look great in highlights from one preseason game against sub-NBA competition.

(Don't worry, real NBA basketball is coming soon. The Celtics open their own preseason two weeks from Tuesday.)

MY NOTE:  Our preseason may start 2 weeks from tomorrow, but camp opens this Saturday.  I am leaving for Sedona, AZ tomorrow morning and won't be online, or very little, for the rest of this week.
