Former Celtic Iverson puts up numbers overseas

WALTHAM, Mass. – Former Boston Celtics draft pick Colton Iverson continues to put up solid numbers overseas, hoping it’ll eventually land him a spot on the Celtics’ roster.

Playing for Pinar Karsiyaka of the Turkish Basketball League, Iverson opened the season with a game-high 18 points in Karsiyaka’s 96-79 win over Besiktas.

Iverson’s 18 points came on 8-for-9 shooting from the field while he also grabbed five rebounds and had an assist.

The 7-foot center was drafted by Indiana with the 53rd overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, but his draft rights were immediately traded to Boston.

He participated in the Celtics’ summer league in 2013 and 2014, but elected not to do so last season.

It is too soon to tell whether he will try and latch on with Boston’s summer league team in 2016.

MY NOTE: I was, quite frankly, shocked when Iverson didn't get a camp invite the last two years when we were dying for a center and, I thought, he had pretty credible summer league performances. NOW, however, what we need is a rim protector more than a banger and Colton Iverson is not a rim protector.

Iverson's numbers in this one game certainly look good, but the C's little preseason road trip to Europe may tell us a lot about European play quality.

He worked hard for two summers for the Cs, but may be in a good place for him as far as his overall basketball ability goes.

And, bob, good point about Iverson being mostly a banger.

He's learning, he's learning. It's pick-and-roll defense I really want to see him excel on, much more so than pick-and-roll offense.

Check out all the empty seats in the stadium.  That must be depressing as all get-out.  High school gyms fill up more than that here...
