Reputation matters. Shocked this is even being debated. Boston normally plays this way, which is why they are allowed.

You just aren't penalizing the team for what they are. All defensive minded team are allowed to......defend. Just like teams that attack the rim relentlessly and have high paces usually get the benefits of free throws. What you want is a known soft team to be rewarded for things they rarely do. We've gotten more free throws I think despite being soft. The refs excuse is nonexistent.
