TJ,
This is not the first time Paul Pierce has shot his mouth off.
It is a laudable attitude (for a Celtic), but it's too much 'tude for me.
Shut up and play ball, Paul.

Re: "We ain't coming back to LA!"
So Paul's helping his teammate off the floor in the heat of the moment and makes a passionate comment that was heard if someone listened really really closely to some video replay. Man, the media (and especially ESPN) will scratch and claw for any way to fuel the fire...just as they did with Pau's comment about KG and with Pierce's twitter account. They scurry around like little rats looking for crumbs they can inject with a little poison.
I've been around the media all my adult life (and, in fact, it will be continuing this coming Wednesday during their coverage of a significant Red Sox event outside Fenway Park). For my money, many members of the media (certainly not all) have evolved from the respected journalists of the past to hack sensationalists.
I agree that giving the other team bulletin board material is not smart. But, in this case, Paul wasn't being interviewed...he had no microphone. If the report is true, he simply yelled something in a moment of anger after a Laker had committed what I feel was the type of foul designed to enrage Perk into committing a tech with the game out of the Lakers' reach.
It behooves all the Celtics to watch their comments. But this one is ridiculous.

Spot on Sam.
Perk was thrown down by Gasol and in the heat of picking him up, Pierce said it. BIG DEAL.
If the Lakers need bulletin board material at this point of the season they have bigger problems than what Paul Pierce said.

You mean to say that Paul - intimidated by the ferocity of Pau Gasol's physicality - was not predicting the Lakers would win three games in Boston?
Imagine that, Paul having confidence in his own team.
Isn't that kind of attitude currently unAmerican?

I think the Lakers are about as effected by Pierce's comments as the Yankees were by Jimmy Rollins prediction for last years World Series.

Tj-
This is supposed to fire up the Lakers...give me a break...He yells stuff AT them much worse than that...He talks trash and the Lakers tune him out. Maybe you got fired up over it but the Lakers are busy focusing on winning game 3.

LACelt,
Maybe I interpreted your post wrong, but Pierce's comments will have no effect on LA and it didn't fire me up in the slightest.

Re: "We ain't coming back to LA!"
Well we are on the same page then...we already had this discussion...Anything these players say is pretty much a tempest in a teapot...the media runs wild, the players mostly shrug it off...with a few exceptions, of course. You saw how much Garnett's game changed after the Gasol comment.
Actually, what PP said was, " We aren't coming back to LA, if we don't all step it up like Rondo and Ray, it'll be the Lakers in 5!" ...only his teammates heard the whole thing, he was trying to fire them up....

Re: "We ain't coming back to LA!"
I find this funny coming from Paul at least with his performance so far. Either he is a complete idiot or he knows something about saying those things and having to back them up. Of all players to make gradiose claims like these whether in the heat of the moment or not, the guy most likely to back it up is Paul.
Either he thinks he will play a huge role in it or he's confident enough in his team that they will back him up. Regardless of whether it comes back to LA or not, it's just as easy for Laker fans to say, you're right, Paul, it's not coming back to LA because we will sweep you at home. And LA will be able to start backing that up with a victory tonight.

Then again, there's the possibility that he's just prophetic. :-)

Re: "We ain't coming back to LA!"
gyso, I love that one. One of my favorite one-liners I learned from my uncle growing up. It's so versatile. You can throw it in any place any time. I hope PP has honed his prophetic skills because he sure effed up the last one of those he threw out there. The end result was still to our liking, but he was off by a game or two. The team covered for him. Maybe now they are ready for it and fulfill it to our liking. Celtics do need to win tonight, otherwise this has a chance to be fulfilled but possibly in a very ugly way for us.

Re: "We ain't coming back to LA!"
Just what would any fan expect from PP. Let's face it, he gets excited and sometimes says things that people want to read things into. What would you expect him to say, "Oh, we'll get them by the seventh game!?" Give me a break, even though I do wish at times he would cool it a little, I am glad to hear that he is backing his team all the way and has confidence in them all.
Big game tonight, but I really feel they will win. Let's not put too much pressure on this one game. They are so good away from home. I look for Garnett to come alive tonight. Not a ton of points, just some downright, great defense on Gasol.
Let's shut all the people up who are saying he is done.

If Pierce wants to make that boast come true he better show up in the second half because he certainly didn't in the first half tonight.
