Sam, Excellent analysis of Rondo's game. Yes, Cooz had incredible peripheral vision. I think of him often when walking the beach and a little kid en route from the water's edge to his mom runs right in front of me. Little kids have NO peripheral vision, whereas Cooz had it in spades.
One of my biggest gripes about the Celts is that - other than Scal when he was a Celt - no one inbounds the ball quickly enough after the opponent scores. Perk is the worst offender. Get that ball moving upcourt BEFORE the opponent has a chance to set its defense. BBall 101. That can be coached.

Sam and Beat are right about the pace of the Celtics games.
Boston had the least amount of FG attempts in the league last year and so far they are averaging the least amount again. (70.5/game).
If Pierce and Ray aren't hitting a high percentage of their outside shots, it is hard for Boston to score enough points to win games due to the lack of shot opportunities. If they can improve on offensive rebounding they will have more shot attempts, but JO and Shaq are not good offensive rebounders.
It seems to me that with Davis offensive abilities and his overall hustle, he might have to get more minutes then what Boston had planned for. For a guy w/o much leaping ability, he is very effective around the basket when he is moving with the ball.

TJ
just checked some past numbers for the C's
1956 averaged 106.0 PPG......96 FGA per game
1966 averaged 112.7 PPG.....104.5 FGA per game
1976 averaged 106.2 PPG.......96.3 FGA per game
1986 averaged 114.1 PPG.......89 FGA per game
2008 averaged 100.5 PPG.......76.6 FGA per game
what stands out is we are getting about 20+ less field goal attempts now then we did in those earlier years. If we even got 10 more quality shots up a game and made half of them then there is the 10 more points Sam mentioned.
And like Worchester mentioned no one gets the ball inbounds after a made basket with any sense of urgency. I remember Bird many times grabbing it and throwing a nearly court length pass to DJ for a layup. That just does not happen now.

Worchester
Look at the shooters we had and the movement that team had. The ball just never stopped moving, and neither did the players.
Considering there were no 3's in 1976 that team was pretty darn efficient too!

We always had point guards with lots of smarts too. Rondo has a very hiogh BB IQ. Let's hope he figures out how to cut down on turnovers.
