2013 Voting for Inductees to Sam's Celtics Forum Hall of Fame—Nomination Stage

It is once again time to consider members of Sam's Celtics Forum for induction to our Hall of Fame, known as the "Jeb Award."  This tradition began in 2011, with the induction of the only Charter Member the Hall of Fame will ever have—John "Jeb" Johnson—our much beloved, folksy Jeb, who passed away not long after his induction (but not before receiving a trophy from us).  You may read about Jeb and see a photo of his trophy, in the forum (listed on our home page) entitled, "Sam's Celtics Forum Hall of Fame."

The procedure, as originally outlined, was as follows:

Each September, Forum members who are deemed by the membership to have made significant contributions to the Forum will be inducted. The procedure, which is still evolving as we write this (as of July, 2011), will tentatively be as follows:

• Around mid-August of each year, a thread will be started, asking for nominations for that year’s candidates.

• In late August, a poll will be conducted to select the five finalists for that year.

• In September, the five top vote-getters (more in case of ties) will be declared finalists, and a poll will be run to select the three Hall of Fame inductees for that year. Each member may vote for only two candidates.

• This year, the top three vote-getters will be inducted into Sam’s Celtics Forum Hall of Fame.

• In ensuing years, the two top vote-getters will be inducted.

Remember, the only criterion is that a nominee should have made what you consider a siginficant contribution to Sam's Hall of Fame.  This year, we'll be expediting the process in hopes of completing it before training camp.  This post is where you can enter the board names of up to three (3) nominees.  Within three days, the candidates will all be listed in the form of a poll to select the five finalists for that year.  Within another three days, the top five vote-getters (more in case of ties) will be declared finalists, and a poll will be run to determine the winners.  Each member may vote for no more than two of the finalists, and the two finalists receiving the most votes (with a minimum of at least three votes) will be inducted into Sam's Celtics Forum Hall of Fame.

I wonder if it might be more appropriate for me to withdraw my name for consideration. I'm grateful for the support but as luck (or rather old age) would have it I no longer have the stamina for staying up all night and contributing to the game threads.

Perhaps some members of the board could give me some advice concerning the NBA League Pass. Can one watch the games the next day? Then I could keep up with my beloved Celtics and still get a decent night's sleep. I sent an e-mail to the NBA contact site but they have so far failed to answer. I'd be grateful for any information. And thanks again for your support, you're a great bunch of guys and gal. (I haven't forgotten Rosalie)!

Thanks for your nominations. The fact that you're on the list is based on the contributions you have already made to the forum. It seems to me that having stayed up until the German milkman comes, game after game, to watch the Celtics and participate in Game-on Threads is a rather extraordinary contribution.

None of us—definitely including myself—can be certain of what the future holds. That was never more true than in the case of Jeb, who was our very first inductee. I hope you'll allow us too keep your name on the list of nominees, and I'm going to extend the nomination deadline to noon EST tomorrow (Saturday) to give you an opportunity to reconsider and others an opportunity to weight in on this matter.

I hope some of the members who have League Pass will be able to give you some feedback in that area.
