D is mostly effort. I sucked on offense but I could play good D because I put in the effort, got in front of my man, and worked to stay there, watching his hips. A lesson learned from my coach and Cousy's Holy Cross teammate Andy Laska in 1955, 8 years after they won the NCCA crown. I was 8 at the time and Andy was coaching bball at Worcester Academy summer camp. Dee Rowe was running the program, years before he moved on to become AD at UConn. Both were magnificent role models.
