Re: NBA Trades and Rumors- 2022 Edition
I think the owners want to prove a point, even though they are rich as sh!t, they don’t want to let this kid/player beat the system and get his money without playing and they will outlast him and keep on holding him hostage to his own contract which he is not fulfilling. Eventually they will stop him from getting his money, which is their right as even though we know mental illness is a very real issue, sorry they are not gonna let this kid win and eat his cake too. They put up with all his garbage all those years and went out of their way to take care of him and he refused to work on his jumper and game and now he thinks he can get free money…..NOT!!!!

The Celtics offered Milwaukee Dennis Schröder for Donte DiVincenzo Friday, per sources. The Bucks countered with Grant Williams. Boston balked at the proposal, but the teams continue to explore a deal.
Bob
MY NOTE: Well, at least now we know that Brad values Grant more than Donte DiVincenzo, and I think he should too. We also know that Brad values Grant more than Schroder, at least given the current state of affairs.

Report: Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics ‘moved on’ from Dennis Schroder trade talks
Justin Quinn
Mon, February 7, 2022, 5:09 PM
There may be one less suitor for Boston Celtics veteran reserve guard Dennis Schroder at the 2022 NBA trade deadline than previously reported according to The Action Network’s Matt Moore.
Moore had previously reported that the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls were both targeting Schroder before the Thursday moratorium for exchanging players between teams during the 2021-22 NBA season arrives at 3 pm ET on Thursday, Feb. 10. Now, in an article updating his most recent findings, he updates his reporting to share that the Bucks and Celtics have since moved on from those talks, leaving only the Bulls as a likely trade partner.
This doesn’t mean that the Celtics would necessarily end up dealing the German guard according to Moore, however, with Boston having “several mechanisms” to achieve one of their primary objectives besides improving the roster — getting under the luxury tax.
Cryptically, Moore relates that the Celtics could do so in ways that “don’t require trades,” and that they have also “explored the market for P.J. Dozier,” whose Bird Rights the team possesses.
Bob
MY NOTE: Well, that rumor didn't last long, did it? For what it's worth I don't want DiVincenzo, I'm unimpressed, so Schroder-for-DiVincenzo didn't move me. I'd rather lose Schroder for nothing this summer than adding a player that should be behind Pritchard no matter what. I'm still intrigued by the rumor that the Bucks wanted Grant Williams more than Schroder. That's an eye-opener right there. Schroder is an established NBA player with 263 NBA starts under his belt, was under consideration for Sixth Man when he was in OKC and is still only 28 years old. In his prime as it were and you're the one they want. Good job, Grant, you've become a player of some value.

New: League sources tell MassLive that the Lakers and Jazz are showing trade interest in Josh Richardson with Talen Horton-Tucker + pick being offered as part of a LA package.
Bob
MY NOTE: THT is 6'4", 234# (??!!), 7' wingspan. 21 years old. He had surgery on a torn tendon in his thumb and hasn't come back like the Lakers have hoped. He makes $9.5M this year and is under contract for $21M for another 2 years after this one ($10+M and $11+M). I don't see how or why Brad would do this trade if getting under the salary cap is a priority. I think they would have to see something very special in THT to take on that contract at this time, because we know they love Josh.

Report: Blazers finalizing deal to trade CJ McCollum to Pelicans
Liz Roscher
Tue, February 8, 2022, 7:29 AM
The Portland Trail Blazers' fire sale is in full swing. They are reportedly finalizing a deal to trade guard CJ McCollum to the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, seven players are involved with the deal. In addition to McCollum, the Blazers are sending Larry Nance and Tony Snell to the Pelicans. The Pelicans are sending Josh Hart, Tomas Satoransky, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Didi Louzada to the Blazers, along with a protected first-round draft pick and two second-round picks.
McCollum, 30, is in the middle of his ninth season with the Blazers, who selected him 10th overall in the 2013 draft. Despite missing 18 games with a collapsed lung earlier this season, he's averaging 20.5 points per game, and his rebounds and assists are at or near his career highs.
With the 21-33 Blazers carrying a bloated payroll and continuing to struggle through a losing season, the time has come for them to start building toward the future — and it appears that's what they're doing. They traded Norman Powell and Robert Covington to the Los Angeles Clippers last week, and the Toronto Raptors have reportedly shown interest in Jusuf Nurkic. With two days left before the trade deadline, we could see more action from the Blazers before the bell sounds.
Bob
MY NOTE: First Powell, no McCollum. How much longer will it be before Dame realizes the sun is setting in Portland?

Re: NBA Trades and Rumors- 2022 Edition
The Bucks wanting Grant instead of Schroeder should not be a surprise. Grant is still under his rookie contract and the Bucks would be able to extend him if they want to. Schroeder will be an unrestricted free agent that will be in search of a long term deal that would further impact their CAP.
The rumored LAL offer for Richardson. I have one question. Is the draft pick a 1st rounder? The Celtics would save around $2 million in the deal this year and get themselves below the CAP. If Horton-Tucker was a better shooter this would not be a bad deal for us.
Really like Josh but we all know that he is not that 3rd scorer for our team. At some point Boston will need to make a bigger deal and that means that Josh and Grant may be needed for salary purposes. Smart will not be traded.

Celtics team president Brad Stevens called ‘fair’ in trade discussions by other execs (report)
Justin Quinn
Tue, February 8, 2022, 9:47 AM
The general public and NBA analysts both have a small track record to judge relatively new Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens by when it comes to cutting deals as the head of the storied franchise has a handful of deals having already been completed by the team president ahead of his first NBA trade deadline in that role.
But we are getting rumbles through new reporting on how the Celtics executive is approaching the 2022 deadline, and it seems Stevens is intent on reproducing his “hitting singles” approach to the sport with how he manages teams. Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill reports that opposing executives have “called coach turned decision-maker Brad Stevens “fair” in trade discussions, compared to Danny Ainge’s approach of trying to get your best player for literally nothing.
“That has streamlined conversations, leading many to believe Stevens wants to subtly add to the core as opposed to tearing it down,” he adds.
Here at the Celtics Wire we are big fans of the axiom “perfect is the enemy of the good” — hopefully, we will all see if and how that perspective is manifested by Stevens in his role as team president at the deadline.

Re: NBA Trades and Rumors- 2022 Edition
Brad is handcuffed by a checkbook that has limitations.
I am going to assume that keeping DS for the remainder of the year happens unless some team throws a first rounder our way. Brad has several players that he can move to get under the tax and still keep DS on the roster this year.
The recent play by the team pretty much puts a hold on making any major moves before the deadline. Everybody wants to see how far this trend takes us.

DS will be gone by tomorrow. If not, we lose him next year without even getting a second round pick out of it. If he stays we can never afford him next year so it has to happen now!

Re: NBA Trades and Rumors- 2022 Edition
If all we can get for Schroder is a 2nd rounder, I would prefer to keep the rest of the season. I could see Schroder tipping a playoff game or two in our favor. Most 2nd rounders never play a minute. All this ignores "getting under the tax line" considerations. I know second rounders can sometimes become players and that they can be useful in trades sometimes, but I would rather max this season, especially if we have really righted the ship.

The Celtics do not have much invested in Dennis. But I think we still need him for the remainder of the year because we are thin at PG. If he leaves next season so what. He would be a cheap one year rental.
The conundrum that Boston finds itself in right now is to stay below the tax and maybe just maybe they make some noise. Schroeder does not have a lot of value by himself if we trade him. If Boston was still at or below .500 by the deadline than there is no reason to keep him on the roster. We have enough options to move a player at the deadline to stay below the tax line and still keep Dennis. Really you are no worse off except maybe you could have picked up a 2nd rounder.
I think we should role with what we have and look to upgrade and/or add to our rotation over the summer.

This trade deadline cannot come fast enough for me. So far, from the same website, I have read Marcus is gone, Beasley is coming, Schroeder to GSW, and…..Theis coming back. This is just one website on one day. These guys are having a field day writing these stories.
Please Thursday, skip a day and come fast

Not sure who got the better end of this deal. Probably the Kings because they got the best player. However what the kings needed the most was defense and Sabonis is not a great defender. I think they will improve their rebounding numbers though.

It will not be too long now.
My gut tells me that the Celtics will keep their powder dry until the offseason. They are very likely to move a contract to get under the tax but with the way they are playing now, I would be surprised if they move on a big deal or that the value of what we are willing to trade would move the needle in what we receive.
Even if we scratch PG off of the things we need list, another big and a sniper off the bench may be needed. How do they accomplish that now. Trying to integrate multiple players into the mix with only 25 games remaining would be difficult if not impossible.
As it stands now we desperately need one of (Nesmith, Langford or Pritchard) to be impactful. If that happens we could make a run. They have been delegated to blowout minutes and have minimal impact.

Langford is a funny player. One or two games he is active all over the floor, then he goes into a funk and is invisible. It is clear this kid has talent, if he could just stay healthy and play on a consistent basis. It is clear that Nesmith also is a quirky kid. I watched him two weeks ago when they shipped him up to Maine to rehab from Covid and whatever else was his problem. His shots were flying off his hands like crazy. He was active and looked good. I know....this was only the GLeague, but he did look good. Last night for the first few minutes he was in there, it looked like someone had told him he didn't have to play hard, that he was getting shipped out. Then all of a sudden he started playing hard and looked decent. I do believe if there is a deal, he is gone. But, personally, I wonder if anything is going to happen

tick, tick, tick . . .
Feb. 8 update
2:35 a.m. ET: ESPN's Brian Windhorst provides the latest intel on where some of the league's biggest storylines stand less than 72 hours until the NBA trade deadline, including the buzz surrounding Ben Simmons and James Harden.
Feb. 7 updates

Re: NBA Trades and Rumors- 2022 Edition
RosalieTCeltics wrote:Langford is a funny player.
At some point one of Langford or Nesmith will be moved probably. We still have that wing we drafted last year that is over in Europe.
The bench did play better last night (second rotation)
Ime has a solid 8 now and he has 25 game to coach those other guys up. Just need some consistency from them and the Celtics become a team that no one will want to play.
Our defense is rock solid. If we continue to move the ball on offense we can beat any team.
Also, I tend to favor Bruno over Freedom but he will need to learn how to play defense like Rob did.
On January 28th we were still bobbing up and down at 25-25.
I do not care if we crush the local elementary school team. A win is a win!
