I respect Bob Ryan, but I think he's oversimplifying here. Not all positions are equal, not all teams have the same needs. We have KG and Davis. Granted, KG's on in years and Jeff Green is a PF for our future, but we don't need him now and this team is built for now.
We lost #18 last year because we were getting killed on the boards because we didn't have Perk. We don't have him again.
The analysis by Hollinger, which I just posted, kinda/sorta explains some rationale as to why we'd see Green as a need, but I'm not sure I'm buying it.
We'd beaten Miami 3x and San Antonio with the Perk team. We'd already proven we could do it without changes.

.
Bob - Jeff Green is a 3/4. He can spell Pierce or KG.....so I think you are vastly under estimating his versatility.
If this is the end of the dealings for this team, I agree it is a bit perplexing....but I dont see that as the case.
So say they add - Troy Murphy (who IS a back up to KG and Baby), then they add someone like Samuel Dalembert, then they also add someone to back up Ray Allen - like say, Grant Hill or Tony Parker...and then Shaq comes back for the playoffs. What would you say then?
I really liked Perk....and I wish he could have stayed here. I also feel it is very distasteful to make a move involving someone like Marquis, who is hurt right now. BUT, I will reserve my judgment until I see the final tally.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
Pumpsie, we already know one answer to your question. Shaq. Stay tuned for other answers. Perhaps Sheed will once again come in, play some defense, and use his six fouls wisely. And, if someone like Dalembert were to be bought out, the Celts would have room for him. The Celtics could wind up with six veteran centers: Shaq, JO, Sheed, Krystic, Dalembert and Davis. Without Dalembert, there easily could be five different guys who could alternately lean on, trample, whack, and otherwise pester opposing big guys. While scoring more points than with Perk. This may seem like a reach, but see me in April.
Never, never, never, never, never evaluate the results of a trade until all the possible implications are in place.

Yes doc did look off . DA said basically everything that I have been posting about today.
Which probably means that I am as crazy as he is.

All I can say is that if this succeeds, Danny comes away as a genius. He has big ones for pulling this off.

From the interview it is clear that da will be filling the 3 roster spots with some veterans including a big that can stretch the floor (Troy)

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
For those not watching, here are a few points made by Danny so far.
• They did not make the deal for the future, although getting Green and a #1 pick is a nice bonus. They made it to win the championship now.
• Ainge has been worried about the "offensive droughts" the team has experienced during this year and the past. While he didn't specifically express it, it sounded as though he feels the Celtics will be a better offensive team with Krystic than with Perk.
• As for defense, they are versatile enough to play with different styles depending on the situation.
• They have three open spots on the roster, and they expect to fill them with veterans in the next few days, with results that fans will like.
• Danny's still pretty bullish on the likelihood that JO will contribute this year.
• Despite predictions that Shaq would clog the middle and make things difficult for Rondo, the opposite has occurred. And that played a part in the trade.
• They still need a "stretch the floor big man," and they expect to fill that slot in the next few days. (Sheed? Murphy? All of the above?)
• For those who are emotionally affected over Perk's departure, take solace in the fact that he's going to a great place—a young, rising team much nearer his home.
Nothing earthshaking there, but I thought it was worth a report.

DA has never been afraid to pull the trigger on a trade. He indicates that JON is doing well and should return sooner rather than later.
He basically stated that he is confident that both oneals will be ready to go. If that is the case the loss of Perk will not have a negative impact.

I would not do that.
I did write that these trades are suspect if nothing else is done to bring us help at the 5.
I stand by that opinion. On the other hand, if we can get some additional help there with Dalembert (I am not thrilled with Wallace coming back, but even he would be better than no help) then its a different situation and would have to be evaluated differently.

I sure hope Wallace does not come back. Just cannot fathom him throwing up 6 3 pt shots per game and missing 5 of them.
Dalembert would be ok though.

He just was so calm and convincing that you have to believe this is the right thing to do. Did you hear the comment that LeBron made? Perk may be in Oklahoma for three or four more months, but he is going to be a Miami Heat next year.

Nope. I honestly think that he is smarter than that DBOSS. He did say that he expects to be filling the roster spots with some veterans over the next few days-hopefully NOT with Murphy.
And if I am wrong, we lose.

Anyone have the inside scoop on Krstic? What does he do well? Where is he lacking? Is he durable?
Looks like he averaged 16 and 7 for the Nets a few years back.

That was before a devastating injury four years ago that he is still not completely recovered from and may never.

Re: Perk Trade Actuality!
Hi Everyone,
Just found this forum today and seeing the day it was I figured I'd post.
Regarding the trade, I haven't seen enough of Green to offer a fair judgment but it is exciting to have an apparently promising young player alongside Rondo to root for. I saw Kristic a little when he was with the Nets and thought he was decent (kinda reminded me of a poor man's Ilgauskas) but that was a few years back. I think it's difficult to truly judge the trade until Danny has filled the three open roster spots (please no Sheed though).
Lastly I wanna wish a huge get well soon to Jeb, here's hoping your recovery goes by in a flash and we're all celebrating number 18 in a few months.
