Oden's not much more of a stretch than Darko. I suppose there's a possibility he could spontaneously combust during a game, but you've got Jason Collins as your backup center and Doc prefers to go small rather than use Collins, so that pretty much sums up the state of the center position for the Celtics at the moment.

If Ainge can't get anyone by the trading deadline and Oden's available for the minimum, then what the heck.

being a buckeye and all, theres a soft spot in my heart for Oden. if he coudl prove to be in any way an assest i'd love to see a buckeye playing for the green.

I assume the two open roster slots are slated for low-cost free agents. Any good center would cost so much that the Celtics would HAVE to trade for him to avoid major cap trouble.

By the way, I recall thinking what a shark Danny for retaining $1,957,000 of the bi-annual exception. I'm not sure if or how that affects their trading ability vis a vis the cap. I'm sure gyso will let us know.

Oden says he's planning his return to the NBA for the 2013-14 season - and the Miami Heat have already expressed serious interest.

The guy obviously has potential and upside.

His major downside is him getting injured all the time but if he signs for whatever minimum and he is not your only backup then I dont see why not.

Although I do think that if he was actually intending to play this season that the Celtics would not be his first option, it would probably be something like Miami.
