Re: SAM'S CELTIC FORUM - MARCH 16TH GET TOGETHER & GAME - INDICATIONS
Worcester, HELP
May ask you to see if your friend at Applebee's can hold tables for between 12-20 as a backup if 4B's cannot give us secure tables.
If not, anyone else have any suggestions...all are welcome. I am seeing if I can get 4B's to do it tonight.
If anyone has an in at 4B's PLEASE LET ME KNOW
Saturday manager is Patrick who I will call tonight. So far as I know they do not hold tables for groups on weekends which I am a little surprised.

Re: SAM'S CELTIC FORUM - MARCH 16TH GET TOGETHER & GAME - INDICATIONS
112288,
A possible, but certainly far from insurmountable, glitch. Just for the heck of it, I called Hurricane O'Reilly's, which is also on Canal St. and pretty much serves pub food (including steak, etc.). The guy said they do save tables, but not on March 16 because: (1) It's the day before St. Patty's, and the crowds will already be forming, and (2) On the 16th, THERE'S A BRUINS-CELTICS DOUBLEHEADER, with the Bruins playing in the afternoon.
My assumption (although I can't claim to be certain that:
• it's going to be tough-to-impossible to save a table anywhere close to TD Garden (probably including the North End and most or all of the Waterfront).
• on that weekend, we should maybe avoid a sports bar anywhere in Boston.
• we should definitely be in a place that accepts advance reservations, and a private room might be advisable.
I'd be glad to scout around for possible options, but I expect we're going to wind up meeting earlier than the currently planned time at the restaurant (rather than at TD Garden) and taking cabs to the Garden for the game.
Wow, I just looked up the (Allston) Sports Depot, about five miles from Downtown Boston. It's been a fixture for years—one of the best sports bars/restaurants in the area. Our first major board party was there, and they gave a private room and waitress for free. I was shocked to find that it's been closed since 2010 and is now a Regina's Pizzeria. This could be a more difficult task than it seemed at first. I'm glad we're starting the search now.

What about one of the restaurants inside the garden? Wonder if our ticket guy could help us get some passes to eat in there.
If not, to Sam's point - if we go just a short distance away, we wont have a problem.

Re: SAM'S CELTIC FORUM - MARCH 16TH GET TOGETHER & GAME - INDICATIONS
112288,
Okay, it took me about 10 minutes but, to make up for being an alarmist, I have an idea that might work. It involves Cheers (actually the Bull & Finch but the original inspiration for the tv show, which is now called "Cheers" by everyone. It used to be a client of ours, and I used to stand outside and schmooze with customers as they lined up. I had this sign that said, "Norm," and I'd face the tour trollies as they went by, and all the passengers would yell "Norm."
Anyway, I just called, and they can give us all or (more likely part) of a semi-private room for free for March 16 from 4:00 to 6:30 (I figured we'd want to start a little earlier if we weren't right next to TD Garden.) We'd order off the menu. The room seats 50; and, assuming we wouldn't have that many, they'd fill the rest of the room with other St. Patty's Weekend customers.
It's on the corner of Arlington and Beacon Streets, probably three miles from the TD Garden. For purists, Cheers would be considered to be in the Back Bay section of Boston. Parking is across the street in the Under-the-Common Garage, and it costs $11. So one option would be to meet there, leave the cars in that garage for the evening, and take cabs to and from the Garden. We have an account at Boston Cab Company, and maybe we could alert them that we’ll be calling for several cabs at the end of the game, because the crowd in the streets is pretty extensive and cabs are snapped up.
The Cheers menu isn’t what I’d call extensive, but it does offer 9 starters, 5 salads, 2 soups, baked beans (I guess that’s explosive enough so that one item is also the category), 8 pub sandwiches, 6 entrees, and 9 burgers.
The URL for the menu: http://www.cheersboston.com/main_menus.html
Be sure to scroll down or you’ll get the impression that all they offer are burgers.
Anyway, maybe it would be something that could be considered. Just in case, I actually put the room on hold for few days for a count of 15 (which I’m pretty sure you’ll get for the dinner). (I didn’t give him a credit card number.) We can keep adding more people to the reservation as we get notifications—up to a total of 50 (I wish!). I told him that, if we don’t want to do it, I’d let him know by the beginning of next week.
I think it’s a nice touch that the appetizers are called “Sam’s Starters.”

Re: SAM'S CELTIC FORUM - MARCH 16TH GET TOGETHER & GAME - INDICATIONS
112288,
I've already made a reservation, knowing that it can be cancelled in the next few days if necessary. The reservation is for 15 people and can be expanded up to 50 as we go along. I'll call and add your name.
My only hesitancy is that the menu is not extensive in terms of entrees. So people should take that into account when considering Cheers.
If, for any reason, it needs to be cancelled, I'd like to do it by early next week.
Mr. Huffington was out when I called around noon. I left a message but haven't yet heard from him.

Cheers is a good spot. Assuming I can make it, I'll probably take the Green line MBTA from Copley or Arlington Street and change at Park Street to the Garden. It'll be packed with Celtic fans, part of the Ambiance.
Cow, did you get my PM?

Only one game ticket for me. My wife will attend the dinner and breakfast the following morning, but she won't be going to the game.
