Joel Embiid Out For Season With Torn Meniscus
MAR 1, 2017 3:09 PM
Joel Embiid will miss the remainder of the season with a torn meniscus.
Embiid's MRI this week showed more damage than first believed.
Embiid missed the first two seasons of his career due to multiple foot surgeries.
"The assessment of Monday's follow-up MRI of Joel Embiid's left knee appears to reveal that the area affected by the bone bruise has improved significantly, while the previously identified meniscus tear appears more pronounced in this most recent scan," said Sixers Chief Medical Director and Co-Chief of Sports Medicine Orthopedics at New York’s Mount Sinai Medical Center Dr. Jonathan Glashow. "We will continue to work with leading specialists to gather additional information through clinical examination and sequential testing to determine the best course of action and next steps."
"Our primary objective and focus remains to protect his long-term health and ability to perform on the basketball court," said Sixers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo. "As our medical team and performance staff continue their diligence in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of Joel's injury, we will provide any pertinent updates when available."

MY NOTE: Two surgeries on his right foot, now a torn meniscus in his left knee. This might not need surgery but damn! He's made out of porcelain, and I'm not talking toilet bowl strength porcelain neither.

Re: Joel Embiid Out For Season With Torn Meniscus
I don't know if it is related, but there was a video of him saying goodbye to Noel. Embiid was out on the court shooting jumpers in his bare feet. That cannot be good for a big 7 footer to be doing that. No adult supervision in Philly?

Re: Joel Embiid Out For Season With Torn Meniscus
I offered the below thoughts in another post.
Re: Durant's MRI shows MCL sprain and bone bruise - expected to miss 4 weeks

"I always hate to see players going down due to joint injuries. Without any stats to back me up I have a feeling that leg injuries are much more prevalent now then they were back in the 1st 40 years of the nba. And if they are I wonder if all the added weight that they carry might be a major. factor In a game that is now played above the rim a landing on a hard wood surface might not be the best of conditions for the knee in particular. Perhaps its time to think about an artificial playing surface to lessen the stress placed on the knee joint in particular. Now its a bunch of heavy weights out there - while back in the early years it was a league of light weights playing below the rim."
The current centers and center-forwards weigh in at 250 plus per player - When Russell entered the league back in 1956-57 his 215 pounds were just about the league average for the bigs.
Has all this added weight resulting from better nutrition and weight training, put to much of a stress on the hinges of the Knee? Think of it this way. If you took the hinges off a cabinet door and used them to support the weight of a solid core passage door, you could expect a hinge failure. It could be that mother nature designed a knee hinge suited for a natural weight that has been artificially altered.

Playing off Swish comments here - and I posted this last year or maybe the year before.
Is it possible that the Sixers are doing something wrong with their strength and conditioning? I would have said no way - but the same kind of injuries happening year after year becomes a trend more than an outlier.

Re: Joel Embiid Out For Season With Torn Meniscus
Considering that two of their 4 high draft picks were already injured before they were drafted their issue may be partly related to drafting players that have red flags.
Red flags should not be ignored whether it is related to a physical issue or one related to character. So they are not unlucky, they are stupid. Now Simmons has the foot issue that may be bad luck but I do not believe in good luck or bad luck.
Remember the red flag about sully before the draft. DA ignored the red flag and now where is Sully?

Can we trade for him now and get him on the cheap?

Re: Joel Embiid Out For Season With Torn Meniscus
Too bad that this guy is injured again. He has awesome talent when able to be and stay on the court.
Big, tall guys who have leg problems may, unfortunately, continue to have leg problems. After any type of
surgery never leaves the leg in 100%.
He has only played 31 games now in three years. Who knows if he gets to play even one more.

They jump higher, all the dunking that goes on, has to place a tremendous amount of pressure on the legs. Once they get damaged, it is like fine china, it may heal but the crack is always there. I am worried about Durant, he has had foot and leg injuries in two of the last three seasons. It would be a shame to see his career cut short because of leg issues.
No matter where he plays, he is still a fantastic player to watch. Emblid?
I would worry about him.
Listen to the idiots on Comcast, they call this the Philadelphia tank so that they can end up in the lottery and possibly steal a great point guard. The piece they are missing from their team.

This is why I really couldn`t understand them ditching Noel.

Ditto here. Seemed kind of stupid. Desperation move, afraid of the off season and watching him walk

I`m thinking Oden too, which would be a damn shame. Rosalie is right. They must have been afraid Noel would walk; but why give him up for a ham sandwich and a bag of chips?

Whatever information Sixers execs possess hasn`t been put to very good use , in my unprofessional opinion.
