Marcus update
Well the season is a week away. He appares to have won a starting spot (at least as of yesterday) will be a 4 or a 5.
And if not he'll be one of the first off the bench.
We have had 3 scrimages and he did really well in one and OK in the other 2. One more scrimage on Friday.
He was 7 for his first 7 from the field including 3 threes in the first 2 scrimages but missed all three of his shots the last game.
I know he will not be the main option, but the coach told him if he is open he wants him shooting period. The team as a whole is looking good and there are no big egos on the team. They all seem to work well together.

Re: Marcus update
Always exciting when a new season's about to get under way. Everything's zero-zero; everyone starts with an even slate. All the best to Marcus.

Thanks Sam
Another interesting note is his cousin (year older but a lot smaller) is playing on another nearby school's JV team (same school where my wife works)
He apparently will also be starting on his team. That school is quite small (about 30-40 graduates yearly) and plays smaller schools, Marcus's team will play the bigger schools in the area. South Jeff graduates about 150+- yearly.
Yeah, he's pumped a little to say the least.
And so am I a bit too.
Last night he was saying how many things they get this year as opposed to modified last year.
Not in any order of importance but here were some of his thoughts...
1) Get your name in the program
2) Cheerleaders
3) Home AND away uniforms.
4) almost twice as many games
5) real officials .....not some janitor in a stripped shirt.
6) more than a couple dozen fans (hopefully)
7) three pointers actually count as three (they didn't in modified)
and of course one of the most important
8)WARM UP MUSIC!!

So he is going to start at power forward or center? That's sweet!

He's just a shade over 6' barefooted so with his sneakers on about 6-1.
Said something last night that even if he does not start our center Jake will get into foul trouble more times than not (we've seen Jake play with Marcus the past 3-4 years so fouling is a given with him).
Marcus is weak in some areas like quickness and jumping. I'd like to see him be a bit more aggressive with the ball but, his plusses are his shooting touch inside and out, great hands which are good size too, boxes out well, and he watches the game critically too, figureing out what might work and what won't.
Pete
no shoe deals on the horizen!
remember baseball is his best sport and all things being equal he's a lefty with a pretty good arm and bat so we shall see.

Re: Marcus update
How old is he?
Seems like 6' is short to play center....is this a smaller HS league?
I am 6' on a good day -and played the 3 or 4 sometimes, but had to be REAL aggressive to survive in Dual County League against teams with 6'4"+ PF and Centers.

If your 6' on a good day, what are you on a bad one? LOL
He is a freshman in HS, born in March, 95 so he's 14 y 8 m old.
He really won't be playing a true center although he will play on the block some he will be at the wings or the high post more.
