Re: the lake show
Bynum is hurt and is not going to be a major player in the finals. It sucks for lakers fans and I wish it was NOT so but I have been watchin him and he is in a lot of pain and really slows down after he sits for a while.

humor aside when healthy he is Ok but he's playing on bum legs and knees if he plays at all. To beat us a healthy Bynum certainly improves their chances but hey we had to suffer last year with a host of injuries. That's part of the game too having a deep enough bench to still play well. If Bynum sits then Odum plays and the Laker bench just got a whole lot weaker.

happy bday first up!
Second they need Bynum to compete in the finals. I think he will play but he wont be able to hurt us much. The poor guy cant seem to catch a break health wise.
Their bench needs odom. Brown is a tough guy and a helluva player but after that it's thinner than twiggy.

It is too bad about Bynum. Sometimes the dice come up snake eyes.
Hard game to play on bum knees but I will give him credit for going out there, but he might be doing more harm than good.
And with Odom really in effect playing more like starters minutes that moves Shasa up one from the current dog kennel he's in. He would now be able to sit next to Morrison on the bench anyway.

I may take a beating for this on this forum but I think Bynum is a great player and one of the few traditional centers in the association. I would rather see Bosh a Laker than have Bynum reach his full potential in yellow.
He looks solid as an oak but man the poor dude just cant stay healthy.

He is extremely thoughtful and encourages his players to look beyond the material things they have. He gives them books that he feels will help them personally.
Jealousy makes you say crazy things.
Now THIS is some funny stuff.
Phil Jackson is EASILY the most rude, egotistical, self absorbed coach in professional sports. All you need to do is listen to one post game or in game interview to see this on FULL DISPLAY. He is condescending, short, and tries to make every reporter look like an idiot. Like Phil is on some higher level because of the cockamamie pop psychology books and zen philosophy he aspires to. What a joke.
Alan Thompson sums it up much better than than I ever could:
How does one go about becoming known as perhaps the greatest coach in NBA history?
Many have aspired to this, but unfortunately there is no book on how to do it. Perhaps Phil Jackson should write one, because it would be impossible to script such a thing any better than what his experience has been.
First you inherit a vastly improving team that has just reached the conference finals. On it you have a young player who is tearing up the league and set to enter his prime years who goes by the name of Michael Jordan.
You also have a dynamo named Scottie Pippin who is about to stake his claim as the most versatile player in the game and one of the fifty greatest of all-time.
You then add to the potpourri a coach already in the team’s employ named Tex Winter, who happens to be the architect of a little known offensive system called "the Triangle".
When speaking to reporters about your players, you use words like “angularity” and “personal actions”. You continually wax philosophical and hand out books about Gandhi and Zen Oneness for your players to read.
After winning six championships with the best duo in the league’s history, an offensive scheme created by an inherited assistant and a whole lot of capable role players, you take a year off.
You decide to return to the league with a team which had finished the previous season with a .620 winning percentage. On it happens to be a player who is as close to unstoppable as anyone who has ever played the game. His name is Shaquille O’Neil. Then add a budding superstar named Kobe Bryant to the mix. Oh yeah, and call your old pal Tex Winter to sit beside you on your fold-up throne.
You snag a few more rings, and after two consecutive years of failing to win another you get run out of town by the team’s superstar. A year later you’re called back into service with the same team that had hurled you into the alley just 362 days prior. After two seasons of playing barely above .500 your team is in disarray with your superstar player going viral on YouTube where he can be found screaming and pleading to be saved from drowning in the Lake(ers).
Just over halfway through the next season your team is in fifth-place in the conference. You wake up one morning and find Pau Gasol stuffed into your resident Goodwill box and realize that whoever donated him has also hauled away and assumed the nine-million dollar lease on your trash can. You know, the one with the words Kwame Brown stenciled on it.
You go 28-9 the rest of the way, finish with the best record in the conference and once again find yourself in the NBA finals.
So there you have it. Sort of an “Idiot’s Guide to Becoming Known as the Greatest Coach in NBA History” outline.
I live in Chicago and my greatest experiences as a sports fan revolved around the Bulls’ dynasty of the nineties. I’m really not against the Zenmeister. I actually like the guy.
Is it his fault that he was hired to coach the Bulls when he was? Or that the Lakers came calling when they did? What coach in his right mind is going to turn down either one of those gigs?
My point is that to measure him based on his ring collection and career win-loss record is misleading. Does anyone honestly believe that the Bulls and the Shaq/ Kobe Lakers would not have won those championships anyway?
He’s certainly not a bad coach. He does seem to be able to win when he has the best talent to work with and I suppose there is some merit to that. But how much can be told about the skill of a driver who tends to win races when he has the fastest car?

when I read the TJ "support Phil post" I about threw up. It was so off based it was almost funny..............but when you realize he was dead on serious, then it becomes almost hilarious. And he expects us here on a Celtic web forum to take him seriously? Kidding right.
And that about sums up my feelings.

Phil will never give the standard answer that a reporter wants to hear.
This is another case of anyone that is not a Celtics player or coach is not great. If Phil coached for Boston, you would defend his intellect.
Yes, Phil has coached many superstar players.
How about Red? How many hall of famers did he coach at one time?.

mrkleen,
How come you didn't copy and paste the full article?
Maybe because this was the next sentence:
'That being said, Red Auerbach had some nice talent to work with as well,'

Phil Jackson WISHES he were Red Auerbach. Red BUILT a franchise from the ground up. He personally drafted every one of those championship teams - coached them as young bucks - served as GM / Coach / Mentor / Friend / Father Figure. Nothing at all what Mr. Hired Gun Phil Jackson has done.
He never built anything...and everytime the going gets tough - Jedi Phil JUMPS SHIP.
Yeah, thats the kind of coach we want here in Boston. Sorry, we will keep Doc - you guys can have that your Faker in his high chair throne.

Too bad you didn't answer my question about why you didn't copy and paste the full article.
Do we want to go back from months ago to re-post the 'Fire Doc' or 'Who will be the new coach next year' threads?
Phil has coached for 19 years and has left 1 team when his contract was over. I guess you would consider that Jumping Ship? Your arguments are indefensible even to yourself....lol
mrkleen, fyi: It's not the 1950's and 1960's anymore.

TJ - I didnt post the entire article, because the reference to Red was immaterial to Phil Jackson being a ego maniac and an opportunist.
If the 1950s and 60s dont matter - why are the Lakers still counting banners that were won by another team in another city?
BTW...how many Lakes are there in Los Angeles?

Opportunist? If you had won 6 championships, what job would have been more attractive to you, coaching the Lakers or maybe the Pacers or Nets?
Wow, now you move onto how many titles the Lakers have in LA? Man, you bounce around a lot.
Who said the 1950's and 1960's don't matter? Not me.
You can't compare what Phil does in today's time to the role Red had.
That is like comparing Joe Torre to Casey Stengel.

Re: the lake show
Not only have I lost track of what we are debating - but I lost track of your entire point.
Do you really expect to find support for Phil Jackson on a Boston Celtics message board?
Guy is a self centered jerk - who is nothing but a cherry picker. Plain and simple, he never built anything from the ground up. He is a good coach. But to try and compare him to Red is a LAUGH.

Re: the lake show
I was the one telling you that you can't compare Red and Phil.
They coached in completely different eras.
Red was there from the beginning of the NBA or very close to it. He had the opportunity to build a franchise. Nobody now can build a franchsie.
Next time, please post the url to a story that you are referencing.
Let us read the whole story instead of copy and pasting 90% of it like you did. Your failure to copy the whole article speaks volumes.
