Bird was all over the leader board, so it would have been a valid answer.

Debated between Hondo and Cousy. After I posted I remembered that steals didn’t become an official stat until the 70’s. Much like Russell, Wilt, Pettit, Mikan etc and their blocked shots, I guess we’ll never know how many steals the players of the 50’s and 60’s amassed.

Good point.

Bird, Pierce and Rondo pretty much own the Boston steals list. It might look different if they had counted steals sooner.
