https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10032198-report-malcolm-brogdon-traded-to-celtics-pacers-get-daniel-theis-draft-pick-more
The Boston Celtics have acquired veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon from the Indiana Pacers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Here are the full terms of the trade, per Wojnarowski:
Celtics get: Malcolm Brogdon
Pacers get: 2023 first-round pick, Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith, Nik Stauskas, Malik Fitts and Juwan Morgan
The news hardly comes as a surprise after NBA insider Marc Stein reported in April that the Pacers had given a number of teams the impression they would pursue a trade of the 29-year-old during the offseason.
Brogdon signed a two-year, $45 million extension with the Pacers in October that prohibited him from being moved during the 2021-22 season.
Brogdon has been in Indiana for the past three seasons after spending the first three years of his NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks, which selected him in the second round of the 2016 draft.

He is a PG so what will happen next?
How do they keep both Smart and White?
Jaylen Brown has to be thrilled.
This move is a clear indication that Brad and Ime are less than satisfied with their PG play

They are good enough for getting us through the regular season, against the elite points, Brad knew we needed more. I’m still not sold on White.

Cow
I think there is another trade coming. Something has to give, We have Marcus, Derrick, Peyton, Malcolm and rookie JD at PG although PP is more like an undersized SG/combo guard.

Agreed
Maybe White part of a package for a 5, we need one now that Theis is gone.

Actually Brogden has size to play wing in certain situations, always a heady player with a well rounded skill set.

Those rumors seem more plausible now that Theis has been traded.
Brogdon fills two needs as both a playmaker and a wing scorer. now getting a big seems logical.

Exactly my feeling. Brogdon + White + Smart means too many highly paid guards and not enough minutes. Another move is about to be made.

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
Brogdon is 6' 5" so I can actually see him playing on the wing some.
We are going to have an even bigger backcourt.

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
For the record, Jaylen Brown is a close friend to Brogdon. Malcolm is also from the ATL. Both have been on the NBA PA.
2 summers ago when Jaylen led that protest march in Atlanta, Brogdon was at his side.

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
So Brad gets Brogdon, a starting PG, for basically nothing!
Add that to the earlier signing of Gallinari, who gives some shooting off the bench.
For me, the rumor about pursuing Thomas Bryant would be the best if it happens. A new starting center that we know from our home town would be fantastic.
It looks like more to deals come when you consider the current roster.
So much for my prediction of a quiet period with nothing big going on for the Celtics.

Bryant could be an excellent addition to our center rotation. Injuries have limited him the past 2 years. Now let's wait and see what the salary looks like.

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
Nesmith, we hardly knew ya. That's because you never delivered on your NBA calling card, your shooting.
Sorry to see Theis go, I've been a fan of his from the first time I heard he was considering coming over from Germany to join us (board member 'international' was the one who first alerted us to this) but well, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, including good eggs like Daniel.
The other players weren't making the roster anyway, I doubt they'll stick with Indy either, I think they're just salary filler.
Brogdon is a solid player. Not particularly athletically gifted but a smart player. Crafty might be a good description. He understands the NBA game and how to get his defender where he wants him. He averaged 19.1ppg last year with Indy. He's a career 37.6% 3pt shooter but only shot 31.2% last year. This is strange because he shot 38.8% the year before that. He's an 88% career frito shooter. Gotta love that. Look at our roster and you'll see a lot of good frito shooters now.
Career
Pritchard - 92.4% (he was 100%, 21-21, last season. He was 88.9% the year before)
Brogdon 88%
Gallinari 88%
White 85%
Tatum 84.4%
Smart 78%
Horford - 75.9% (but 84% last year and 81% the year before that. He improved with age and practice)
Even Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams, both of whom were execreble frito shooters when they came into the league, and now both shooting in the 70s (Brown 75.8% and RWill 72% last year). Hauser didn't take any NBA ftas last season but he averaged 88% in college and 80% in Maine.
He's a good size, 6'5", 229#, 6'11" wingspan. He's also slightly on the right side of 30 years old. I like this. He's still in his prime but his NBA learning curve, other than Ime's system, is flat. He was a 4 year player at Virginia and was a 24 year old NBA rookie with Milwaukee. He has played a total of 333 NBA games in 6 seasons. I think it's safe to say he has overachieved as a #36 pick in 2016
Financially he's making $22.6M this year and it's the last year of his contract. Good and/or bad, depending upon how well he fits. If he doesn't then he's a nice expiring contract for the trading deadline. If he does then he'll be expensive to resign because he's had a taste of what a north-of $20M paycheck is like.
He averaged 5.9 assists and 2.1 turnovers per game last season, 2.8:1. That's really good.
I've considered him a mediocre defender, made so by his mediocre athleticism. We'll see what he's like now. Him and Gallinari. Man, we will definitely see what Brad hath wrought on the defensive end. Hopefully, I'm being an idiot.
According to an NBA Trade Machine we added $4.3M in salary. I doubt it. I'm expecting Brad using some of one of the TPEs to offset that. The Trade Machine also says we are a +2 in wins after this. +7.1 in offense and +.56 on defense.
Depth Chart, old school, as of right now:
PG - Smart, White, Pritchard
SG - Brown, Brogdon, Hauser (rumor is this is under negotiation)
SF - Tatum
PF - Horford, GWill, Gallinari
C - RWill
Who am I leaving out?
As I have it we are no longer 8 deep before going iffy, we're 10 deep.
If Brad traded Theis he must be feeling good about Bryant coming here. No way Kornet can replace Theis. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Brad Stevens was able to clear out his ineffective bench and acquire another playmaker at the same time. It’s obvious he doesn’t value draft picks as much as his predecessor Danny Ainge. #Celtics
Bob
MY NOTE: Uh, yep. Maybe that's because Brad was the one who had to decide whether to put them in the game or not and Danny didn't. We are now seeing, perhaps, the biggest single difference between the Ainge and Stevens Eras.
