With all the guys heading out the door look for Brad to hang the help wanted sign out.

Sorry to see Theis go, I've been a fan of his from the first time I heard he was considering coming over from Germany to join us (board member 'international' was the one who first alerted us to this) but well, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, including good eggs like Daniel.
The other players weren't making the roster anyway, I doubt they'll stick with Indy either, I think they're just salary filler.
Brogdon is a solid player. Not particularly athletically gifted but a smart player. Crafty might be a good description. He understands the NBA game and how to get his defender where he wants him. He averaged 19.1ppg last year with Indy. He's a career 37.6% 3pt shooter but only shot 31.2% last year. This is strange because he shot 38.8% the year before that. He's an 88% career frito shooter. Gotta love that. Look at our roster and you'll see a lot of good frito shooters now.
Career
Pritchard - 92.4% (he was 100%, 21-21, last season. He was 88.9% the year before)
Brogdon 88%
Gallinari 88%
White 85%
Tatum 84.4%
Smart 78%
Horford - 75.9% (but 84% last year and 81% the year before that. He improved with age and practice)
Even Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams, both of whom were execreble frito shooters when they came into the league, and now both shooting in the 70s (Brown 75.8% and RWill 72% last year). Hauser didn't take any NBA ftas last season but he averaged 88% in college and 80% in Maine.
He's a good size, 6'5", 229#, 6'11" wingspan. He's also slightly on the right side of 30 years old. I like this. He's still in his prime but his NBA learning curve, other than Ime's system, is flat. He was a 4 year player at Virginia and was a 24 year old NBA rookie with Milwaukee. He has played a total of 333 NBA games in 6 seasons. I think it's safe to say he has overachieved as a #36 pick in 2016
Financially he's making $22.6M this year and it's the last year of his contract. Good and/or bad, depending upon how well he fits. If he doesn't then he's a nice expiring contract for the trading deadline. If he does then he'll be expensive to resign because he's had a taste of what a north-of $20M paycheck is like.
He averaged 5.9 assists and 2.1 turnovers per game last season, 2.8:1. That's really good.
I've considered him a mediocre defender, made so by his mediocre athleticism. We'll see what he's like now. Him and Gallinari. Man, we will definitely see what Brad hath wrought on the defensive end. Hopefully, I'm being an idiot.
According to an NBA Trade Machine we added $4.3M in salary. I doubt it. I'm expecting Brad using some of one of the TPEs to offset that. The Trade Machine also says we are a +2 in wins after this. +7.1 in offense and +.56 on defense.
Depth Chart, old school, as of right now:
PG - Smart, White, Pritchard
SG - Brown, Brogdon, Hauser (rumor is this is under negotiation)
SF - Tatum
PF - Horford, GWill, Gallinari
C - RWill
Who am I leaving out?
As I have it we are no longer 8 deep before going iffy, we're 10 deep.
If Brad traded Theis he must be feeling good about Bryant coming here. No way Kornet can replace Theis. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
I always thought Brogden was a terrific piece on a championship team. Milwaukee learned the hard way letting him walk. Big mistake, he fits nicely. I thought that White could not be shipped out right now. I would like to see them get a big and settle down. Too bad Daniel, I always liked you. As far as Neismith is concerned, how can we be upset, we never really saw what he could accomplish game after game. He was not going to get a chance here. Good luck to him I hope he succeeds

Re: Here Comes Malcolm There Goes Theis and Nesmith
I'd like to say this was the steal of free agency so far but the Dejounte Murray trade to Atlanta might have nosed it out. Not by much, though.
Getting Gallinari for the MLE might be #3.
Turns out Brad's pretty good at this GMing stuff...
I don't think he's done yet, though. I don't know what's next but we're now $17M over the tax line. That would make our luxury tax bill $35M. Brad's gonna shed some $. Don't know how he's moving that much off the books but I cannot see him ending up there. I just hope he doesn't start doing stupid stuff.

Brad Stevens was able to clear out his ineffective bench and acquire another playmaker at the same time. It’s obvious he doesn’t value draft picks as much as his predecessor Danny Ainge. #Celtics
Bob
MY NOTE: Uh, yep. Maybe that's because Brad was the one who had to decide whether to put them in the game or not and Danny didn't. We are now seeing, perhaps, the biggest single difference between the Ainge and Stevens Eras.
.
Also, it's a different mindset with where the team is. We just missed winning the championship by 2 games. That calls for 'win now' roster construction. If we have to give away a few future picks for that, it's the cost of doing business. No one we'd draft at the end of the 1st round where we expect to be for the next few years with this core is going to come in and play a significant role in winning a championship. Danny didn't have that since he traded PP and KG away. The IT team overachieved, and wasn't really a title contender at that point. The current roster is, and likely will be for the next few years barring injuries.

lots of movement around the League. Looks like Rudy Gobert may be heading to Minny, they wiped out half a bench and gave draft picks.
it looks like Indy wanted Grant, and Brad would not give him up.

I think by 2024 Indy could be a playoff team. Either way that pick is a tradeable asset.

So basically Jaylen and Malcolm will be running the NBAPA now from Boston.

Somehow getting back a protected first does not make sense. That must have been mis-reported.

You may be right. I have searched many sites to verify the 2024 pick inclusion, but came up empty.

League sources tell MassLive that 2023 first round pick the Celtics are trading in Malcolm Brogdon deal is top-12 protected. If it doesn't convey this year, Pacers get a second-round pick instead.

Per source - C’s goal is to continue with double big lineup, and that Malcolm Brogdon is viewed as a sixth man, behind Marcus Smart
Bob
MY NOTE: How do you build Champions? By getting starters on other teams to come off your bench because your starting lineup is so good they can't crack it. We now have Derrick White, who started for the Spurs, and Malcolm Brogdon, who has started for the Bucks and Pacers, coming off our bench.
