Geez, LaMelo getting that contract.....these kids hardly get their feet wet and are making ridiculous money. Unreal to me, this is not my Mother and Father's world!! Mine either for that fact. Good luck to them all, they would not be getting it if the owners were not billionaires with nothing else to do with their money

Re: Free Agency 2023
Both the Celtics and Bucks are reportedly courting Sacto wing Terrence Davis.
6'4", 210#, 26 years old, 6'8 1/2" wingspan. Undrafted in 2019, made the Nuggets after a good SL. This is the same draft that got us Romeo (#14), Grant (#22), Carsen Edwards (#33) and Tremont Waters (#51).
Averaged 13.1mpg in Sacto last year. Played 64 games, started 5, a total of 841 minutes.
42.3% fg%, 36.6% 3pt fg%. 3/4 of his fgas were 3s, and he shot what amounts to the league average on them (36.1%). 79% ft%. 1.0apg, .8TOpg, is mediocre at best for a guard.
Offensive Rating = 106
Defensive Rating = 114
Net Rating = -8
A 106 Offensive Rating isn't very impressive given Sacto had the #1 offense in the league @ 120.7ppg. I suppose he can be forgiven for his defense because Sacto's defense gave up 118.1ppg. That's #25 out of 30.
In summary, he doesn't shoot well, doesn't particularly defend well, doesn't manage the offense well. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
Let's be honest: nobody we get for what we can afford is going to be very good unless they're a grizzled veteran Ring Wraith who will work for peanuts for a shot at a title. Personally I'm just fine with Ring Wraiths. I have very good memories of Eddie House and PJ Brown and the jobs they did for us. I wouldn't build a team around them, but they make for excellent fillers.
Last year Terence Davis made $4M. He is a UFA.

Re: Free Agency 2023
I loved PJ Brown for years, he made one shot that helped win us a title, played hard the short minutes he played and was a delight. Believe it or not, after last year, I felt the same way about Blake. Although, I was a real PJ fan, not a Blake fan before he joined the Celtics. Red always had a way of getting guys just ready to walk away from the game with a year or two left in them. I know Davis is younger, but maybe?? Look at Bruce Brown, do you really think he thought he would ever make the money he just signed for???? Bruce Bowen made a career out of being a guy willing to do whatever it took. If we are really lucky, maybe we will find one of those kinds of guys

Re: Free Agency 2023
Desmond Bane has signed a 5 year, $207M extension with Memphis. He is now the highest paid player in Grizzly history, more than Ja Morant's from just last season.
Bane had a great season, averaging 21ppg, but man! The money!
He was selected #30 in 2020 by the Boston Celtics and traded to Memphis for a future pick (nice job, Danny).

Re: Free Agency 2023
Celts met with DALANO BANTON, a third year guard that Toronto cut loose. Didn't play much, but he's 6'9 and has played some point. Looks like Brad is filling in the blanks at the bottom of the roster while trolling for bigger fish.Low risk (if we sign him) high reward kind of player Maybe a two way.

Re: Free Agency 2023
Jordan Clarkson finalizing 3 year $55M deal to stay with Jazz.
$18.3M for a player that shot 33.8% from 3 last year (that is also his career 3pt fg%) and doesn't work on defense (120 DefRtg). The textbook definition of a high-volume, low-efficiency scorer.
Danny, whaddya doin'?!
There was talk of Danny doing a sign-and-trade for Grant. Unless this was the first building block for that this should take Utah off the board, limiting Grant's options.
I wish Grant well, but I wish the Celtics for even more and I'd like to see the market dry up for Grant so he has to stay here.

Re: Free Agency 2023
Remember what happened when Marcus turned down the Celtics offer for his last contract? He ended up coming back and had to take less than what he was originally offered. Grant is playing a dangerous game. Could be alot of people told him he was on their list and now it is drying up. Worst thing for him would be he would have to take the qualifying offer for a year and become a free agent next year. If he is doing well, he will win. Or.......traded at the deadline in February

Re: Free Agency 2023
When Big Baby Davis was at the end of his rookie years and was a RFA, it took most of the summer to get him under contract.
We may have a repeat with Grant.

Re: Free Agency 2023
They players get this kind of money because they are the product that generates the income that he owners make. Billionaires are not just giving away money because they have nothing better to do with it.
They wouldn't be billionaires if they practiced that kind of logic. Probably not millionaires either.

Eric Gordon just signed a 2 year deal, including a player option, with Phoenix.
That is one helluva team on paper.

I saw that. I wouldn't hate it.
One thing I have looked for in the many articles that talk about our impending doom for going over the Super-Tax Apron (aka: 2nd apron) is the idea that the actual tax is based on the team salary at the end of the regular season. I haven't seen that part in any discussions.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q18
Larry Coon FAQ wrote:When determining the amount of tax a team owes, the league uses its team salary (see question number 13) on the date of its last regular season game.
This means that we can go over the 2nd apron and sign Grant now. Then, sometime later on (before the trading deadline?) we can trade away the extra salary and dip back under the 2nd apron and avoid the big tax and so forth.
Once we go over the 2nd apron, we do have some limitations during the season, for instance, no small MLE, tightened salary matching during trades, no signing waived players, to name a few that I've seen in reports.
The Celtics management understands that signing a player of Grant's skillset cannot be done by using the little (taxpayer) MLE. So they may wait for his market value to be set and match any reasonable offer he gets. Later, as the season progresses, they can trade salary off the books and tweak the roster to fill any perceived holes.

Re: Free Agency 2023
The other thing I read this morning was an article in Larry Brown Sports where Marcus really goes off on the Celtics. Nicey Nice time is over I guess, He is really ticked off, said they told him he was safe and no trades being talked about.... Looks like Brad is getting hit with it hard. Remember who he trained under!!! I really understand where Smart is coming from, but I hope this all stops and he does not go on a smear campaign. Hurt feelings can make someone say some pretty nasty things. BIG BUSINESS MARCUS, that is all I can say. We are talking about alot of money AMD, management gave this trio a good length of time to get it done. I am not taking sides here, but there are two sides to every story. Sad it ends this way

Let me know your thoughts after you watch the video. I didn't hear anything close to "nasty".

Re: Free Agency 2023
You are totally right, total class. I know that there are so many who would love to see him leave on a bad note, doesn't sound that way to me, so I will rescind my comment. I sure am going to miss him. I hope we do not regret this. It is funny, now all of a sudden, Clips were back trying to trade for Brogden, if that had gone thru, I wonder if this trade would have ever taken place. He is right though, this had to be in the back of their minds. Celtics have a bad habit of saying one thing and doing another at times. I wonder, was this Brad's call? Or Wyc's??? He was a pretty angry owner after that last game.

Barton signed with us. Supposedly has some upside.

This is two signings that leave me scratching my head. I know they are not in a position to make a big hit on a signing, but really??? This is the "green light"?

Re: Free Agency 2023
Torrey Craig signs two year deal with Chicago.
There's a pattern going on in the NBA now. Two year deals with the 2nd year being a player option. I believe this is the same type of deal that Brad signed Oshae Brissett and Dalano Banton to.
