AKA The Draft that Could Set the Tone for the Future.

As Danny's strategy unfolds, starting with this draft, we'll start to zoom in on the kind of Celtics team we'll be watching as this decade unfolds. Whether KG stays or retires, the way our front court is stocked will determine whether we'll be more of a finesse team or a banging team. If Danny drafts speed, that dung-eating grin you see will be Rajon Rondo's. Will Pierce be replaced by a slasher or a lights-out shooter? What will we be able to infer from this draft about the future direction of the team as we move toward Chapter 2: AKA free agency/trading season?

Please join us and be liberal with your ideas, hunches, hopes and reservations. We'll kick off the thread at 6:45 p.m. tonight, and the selection process is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Television coverage ESPN. The Celtics' two draft picks are #21 and #22. But don't be fooled into thinking it's safe not to tune in until 8:30 or so because there are many rumors that Danny's trying very hard to move up—possibly even into the lottery.

We've just been through a season which had its ups and downs; but, in each case, we've faced it together. Let's continue the tradition tonight and root the Celtics home in the draft.

Looking forward to the buzz.

Sam

I hope to be able to check in later after baseball. Even once we make our picks we won't really know everything because Trader Dan works in mysterious ways. We could pick up the paper or check the web 24 hours later and find he's traded three picks and half the roster for the next Russ, Cous and Hondo.

I remember after the '07 draft thinking "what are we going to do with Ray Allen?" Not too far after, it became clear.

As long as I don't hear "and with the 21st pick, The Boston Celtics select Acie Earl" I suppose it'll all be good.

NYCelt,

Good luck to Michael and you in the baseball game. You're right about the unpredictability of Danny. I'm still hoping we can glean some idea of the direction in which he's heading when the draft flurry and the announcements about KG and Ray have been made. Are they continuing to go the veteran route, stockpile developing talent for future trades, go up-tempo, or what?

I'm now hearing that the Celtics' desire to move up does involve their interest in Doc's son. With an opportunity to draft some interior defense, athleticism, and strength, would they really jettison those opportunities in order to go for a wing who's more of a volume scorer than a great shooter?

Sam

It's going to be interesting.

Now I'm hearing #21, #22, and Avery Bradley for the #3 pick from Washington. Beal? Drummond?

Wow! That is a bit much. Whoever the C's pick would have to turn out to be awfully good and pretty quickly. I would see Allen staying if that were to happen as well most of the last year's playoff team would remain intact.

Hi KennCelt! Welcome to the board! You picked a helluva day to start, huh?

Trader Danny will have us all on pins and needles all night, I'm sure.

And it won't end tonight either. Deals will still be made undrafted players will be invited to camp and cards will be dealt in the back room.

But the dealing has to start somewhere and tonight gets it going.

beat

As for that deal with our 2 picks and Ab for #3...... i'll pass.

And Ken welcome aboard.

Third pick is supposed to be Beal who OKC is supposedly yearning for.

Rumours exist of OKC being interested in trading harden to charlotte for their pick (to get beal). So Cs get Beal and trade for Harden which means Bradley + 21 + 22 for Harden.

Just speculating obviously Very Happy

The Lakers have the #60 pick.
By then the janitors at the Prudential Center will be telling people they have to head out...

The draft should be exciting anyway!

TJ,

Rumor is the Lakers were trying to trade TAFKARA for a 25-30 pick. No takers.

That surprises me. He can still play. When he's not doing something stupid that makes the league tell him he can't play.

Always a bummer going to a reception and being the last table to go get something to eat. But at least with food being the last table you can sort of pig out without worrying about leaving something for others.

Gee, I wonder why not? He is such a fine, upstanding player with a great personality. Glad they are stuck with him. Any chance they would amnesty him just to get rid of him, or too much $ involved?
