Let us know who you are; or were!
Some posters registering here have come over from the old BDC board but had problems keeping the old board-name on a new Google account.
Let us know who you used to be.
Ok, that's not grammatically correct but you get the idea.
For what it's worth it took me a few tries to get it.
Regards

I used to be "Carpecarpium." Then the old site was "upgraded" and some how I became mny real name, paulliu. Never got around to changing it. Now I'm carpecarpium, again.

I am swedeinestonia and had the same username on the old forum.
Did not post anything interesting/a lot there but was reading it for quite a while.

Hey Swede, welcome to the board. Your name suggests there must be a "story behind the story" here...maybe of a geographic nature. Can you fill us in (to the extent that you feel comfortable doing it)?
Great idea, NYCelt.
And Paulliu...I never knew the Carpe connection. A second welcome to your split personality. This place is starting to resemble a Who's Who in basketball posting.

I am a Swede currently living in Estonia for academical reasons.
Have been a "Boston" fan since about 2001 because it was the first town I visited (My Ellis Island).

Swede,
Now there's a story that brings tears to the eyes of a native Bostonian...a linkage of Boston with Ellis Island. I hope your travels some day bring you this way again and that you have an opportunity to meet people on this board...a ready-made group of friends in America. In the meantime, best of luck in your studies. And GO CELTICS!

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
I have been to Boston several times and I really like it there, never had a chance to watch any games live though.
Found out quite recently that one of my friends in Boston is involved with the restaurants that have something to do with Jo Jo White (way before my Boston times).
Will have to see if that place is any good the next time I make it back

Swede,
Maybe you'll become our resident restaurant reviewer. LOL.
Don't get me started on Boston. I'm a one-man chamber of commerce. (No more so than guys like BobC and Spike (now known on this board as tyrone shoelaces.)

For the record I am beat, or beatLA from BDC
as if anyone couldn't figure that out.
as I always dropped the LA anyway when posting my name, I decieded to keep it simple and just be plain ole beat here, no capital letter, no LA at the end.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
I'm Sam, and I used to be SlipperySam. That name was selected to honor Celtics great Sam Jones—a good friend. That was okay when I posted at BDC. But, in establishing and promoting my own site, I didn't want to "trade" on even the nickname of such a super person. So I've dropped the "Slippery" (an inspired appellation by Johnny Most) and am now plain old Sam. (I figure "Sam" is common enough that I'm not infringing on his name now.)

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
I chose "carpecarpium" at the old site b/c at the time I joined a French guy had gotten me into carp fishing. Carp are prized as a game fish there whereas they are regarded as a trash fish here.
My old/new handle was intended as a play on "carpe diem"--seize the day. "Carpecarpium" means "seize the carp."
Brilliant, huh?

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
NYCelt, OK, since you asked.. I am Celtics9Lakers2. I had also been posting under lovethelaw. BDC banned "lovethelaw" which created a very intense debate between BDC and myself. It was my position that BDC unfairly banned me for an "alleged overly aggressive", their words, defense against some personal attacks of Red, Red's daughter, and Bill Russell. The attacks, in my view, had asolutely nothing to do with basketball. It was my view that BDC's failure to remove those comments was disrespectful to Red, Russ, the city of Boston, and Red's daughter. Eventually, BDC re-read the comments and conceded their error.
Sam and I had been talking in the background since July of 2009 by email where Sam and I discussed "username" changes. When BDC conceded their error in judgment, they released my initial username, however most folks already knew me to be C9L2.
I recently rejected BDC's request to renew our Boston Globe and BDC subscriptions and stopped posting on BDC about a month ago. Truth be known, I am an over the line Celtic fan, and amateur basketball "nut" that probably does not pay as much attention to detail as Sam, Rosalie, you, Beat, Michael from Denver, newbill, BobH, BobC33, MD, and the others pay. That's because I cannot be objective about the Celtics and/or for my fellow Bostonians!! Therefore, I try not to "cloud" up the "technical" discussions the group starts. Although, I can tell you that I probably have not missed more than 3 or 4 Celtic games in the last 30 years (thank you satellite and DVR technology). I recently chose to leave BDC when it became obvious that responding to all the issues and posts directed my way from both sides, would become too time consuming. I also thought the board became too dysfunctional and judgmental.
When Sam informed me that he was thinking of starting a new site, I decided to support his efforts. I think this can be a fun posting site, even if some Laker fans, such as babyskyhook, MG, JOFC, and some others join us.

No way! We've got the Hooter Rooter Man on blard?
Welcome Matty. When I saw your new board name, I was hoping it was you.
For you who may not know this guy, among other things (including one of the sharpest eyes for the well-turned female figure), he was the winner of my first annual MVP (Most Valuable Poster) award on BDC.
I hope this are going well for you, Matty. (It's going to take some time to get used to not calling you "Hooter.") Please post early and often.
Very best regards,
Sam

"Seize the carp." I just hurt myself laughing?
Aren't carp big in Japan? Maybe HankFinkel (current Japanese resident and board member) can tell me.

Welcome to "Seems" and "C9L2" on your respective arrivals. Two posters who value substance. (Yeah, I am tempted to admonish them not to abuse it, but I won't.) Great to have you guys on board.
We've been averaging about one new member an hour lately, and we're now up to 43. I hope a lot of you will try the "game on" thread at 3:00 this afternoon. Even if you can't see the game, you should enter our contest and join in the posting.

Matty it is, but somehow I'm always going to be thinking Hooter.
Hey; look at that. I just spelled Hooter without getting censored.
