House, Hondo, CeltFanForever, Hoopdedoo, welcome to all of you. Hondo, I'm delighted that you were able to work through the registration problems. Congratulations. It's great to have all of you on this board. At the moment, we're up to 61 members, and the posting has been as energetic as I hope the Celtics will be this year. Thsis is great! Welcome aboard to all of you.

I am mrkleen (Paul is my real name btw)
I think I am mrkleen2002 on the BDC board, and figured I would be mrkleen09 here.
I grew up in East Boston, and have lived in Charlestown for 15 years. Attended Boston Latin for HS, went to college in the area and masters from BU…so yeah, I am about as much a Bostonian as you can get.
Happy to be here and thanks to Sam for all the hard work and dedication

Mrkleen,
You really live in a "hot" part of Boston. I really like it there. We enjoy going to the Warren Tavern, and we even had a good dinner, in a restaurant about two doors to the right, which has a belly dancer. That's neat area, and I mean that literally. For such an old location, it's really quite pristine. And you just might win the award for board member closest to the TD Banknorth Garden.

Sam,
So you know of a tavern with a belly dancer and we didn't go there for the party?
Maybe we could file the location for future reference.

NYCelt,
The belly dancer was actually a couple of doors down the street, but I'm not sure I even recall going from one place to the other. LOL.

Yes, Tangerino - http://www.tangierino.com/ is right around the corner from the Warren Tavern and has good drinks (never ate there) and a fun hookah bar...not to be confused with the Tam down on Tremont near the old Combat Zone (which is my regular bar) and you can find a hooker bar 2 doors down.
Glad to be here -just let me know when you need the money Sam.
And strike that Sam, it is now the TD Garden.
I say, just call it the Boston Garden...put up the old sign (sure it is in storage somewhere) and be done with it.

Sam, you did an outstanding job putting this forum together. Thanks should also go out to those selected few that you have placed trust in to develop and moderate the forum.
For those that do not know me. On BDC, I was originally SDLaker. I had recently changed my user name to MustangGator. Several already know why I changed my name and what my name stands for. In short, my name refers to my time in the military.
I had started posting during the 2008 Finals. Yes I am one of them. The enemy, coming over from the dark side, LOL. Sam had welcomed me to the BDC forum when I first started posting. The least I could do is give Sam's forum a try. I really do think Sam's Forum will be terrific.
I had for the most part quit posting on the BDC site anyway because I was just getting so fed up with the Laker Fans, and I am one. Pretty bad when you can't stand your own, LOL. The only thread I was consistently checking out was the game on thread.

Mustang,
Welcome to the board. It's great to have you here. I have to say that your presence as a friendly rival fan was one of the things that gave me the spirit to start this site. It's wonderful to know that camaraderie need know no bounds of geography or allegiance. I hope you, your family and your work are doing well. Please tell Donald that his fans from the East Coast and all over the world are saying hello. We even have posters from Japan and Estonia. And I'm hoping the Filipinos will soon be here.
Thanks so much for coming aboard. And you didn't even have to salute the Celtics flag to do so. LOL.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
Mustang,
Although I sent you a brief message when I first saw you sign in I wanted to take a slightly longer moment to say hello and welcome.
I'll repeat my long-standing thought, which we've discussed, that sometimes the best interaction is with the fan of another team. Nothing wrong with running a little friendly smack and it's interesting to get the thoughts from a rival camp.
More importantly you've always brought up good points about the game and life in general. Being basketball fans who want to enjoy the game and their team with those with a similar outlook is what we all have in common.
Here's to another fun season for fans of all teams.
Regards

Welcome also from beat (no longer with the LA)
Post early and often and your insight from the left coast is welcome.
We've got a couple of rebels from Georgia lighting up this place for now. They are a hoot. Or as they would say...
More fun than poking smoke up a cat's butt with a knitting needle.

Howdy Beat,
Thanx for the welcome, would have been here sooner but my "get censored" karma wouldn't allow this site to accept my registration as mulcogi nor my addy so had to get a new one and reregister. Thanx to the Slippery one for keeping my spirits up and supporting my effort to break through the technology. Ni modo?

Jeb, NYCelt, and Beat,
Thank you all for the welcome to the forum. The group that has joined Sam's Forum is the reason why I stuck around after the nightmare of 2008. My perspective of 2008 obviously. I really did want a head to head rematch last year. Maybe this year. Who knows what may happen. Good luck this season to all. Lets hope for a healthy season for our teams and our challengers.

NYCelt,
Thank you for the nice remarks. I also agree that friendly posts between rivals can be fun and healthy. That is one of the reasons why I have hung around. There are others, but that is one of the main ones.
I may be one of the few, if not the only one, from an opposing team to register on board. Hopefully I can bring something to the table without trying to be a little over the top. Take care,
MG

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
Sam,
You have always made be feel more than welcomed, first at BDC, and now here in your forum. Thank you for the shout out to Donald, my family, and work. All three could not be any better. This is probably the best of times right now for me and my family. I guess just being home every night after many years of being gone, sometimes for months at a time, is the biggest reason.
I feel honored that I would even be a factor in you starting this site. Even if it was just a small piece of the equation. I hope I don't let you down. I know behind the scenes you are still trying to get me to convert over to the green side, LOL. Well Sam, if it was to ever happen, I would give you all the credit. I do have to tell you that because of you I have really lost my dislike for the Celtics. The dislike was really only because they were my teams primary rival. It just seemed natural to dislike your rival. I respect them and value their history. You have educated me on Celtics history much more than I could have learned on ESPN, in magazines such as SI, or reading any books. You are the Obe One Konobi of Celtics Basketball. I'm not even sure if I spelled that right, but I think you get the idea.
Well, it is 1245 PST and I have to be up at 5 AM to get ready for work. I will chat with you more later. Take care and tell MRS. Sam that someone deep in the Southwest says hello.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
A Heartfelt Salutation to ALL:
I have never gone by any other name (at least on the boards) since this is my first posting ever. I have been a lifelong Celtics fan. My first introduction to the Celtics was at the age of 12, living in South Asia, and watching the film reels of the Russell/Cousy years. I moved to Boston at the age of seventeen and lived there till I was 27 (1976-1986). SO, had the great joy and privilege of living in Boston during through the Bird years (and got to watch quite a few games at the Old Garden). I hardly need to recount the joys of those three banner years in the 1980s. I will also desist from remembering the difficulties of dealing with Celtics losses.
Since leaving Boston, I have lived all over the place, and am currently residing in Berlin. As mentioned, I have never posted before. But, I have religiously followed your postings over the past few years. At times, working 2+ jobs (one of which involves a great deal of writing), I just never got the chance or moment to sort out my thoughts enough to post. But, you guys have been a lifeline for news and commentaries on the Celts, through bad years and good. I can hardly mention all you by name, but thank you for all the joy and solidarity. But, a special thanks to Sam, Hooter, and many others - I have always looked forward to numerous commentaries and game day postings.
Fell off my chair when I heard the news of Ray and KG coming to Boston - and starting to get old enough where it hurts when that happens. But, never too old to feel that adrenaline rush: There's hardly anything I need to say to you about my emotions during the 2008 GLORY YEAR (soon to be repeated). Must add though: WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP ITS BEEN!!
Looking forward to all the Highs and (hopefully not too many) lows of the new season.
p.s. My Mama always told me never to say anything if I have nothing good to say. So, the only thing I will say about the current state of the discussion board in Boston Globe is that it has quickly degenerated into nasty fights and inane comments - still waiting to read even one decent comment by any of the new cats there (although I did notice that some of the ol' regulars will return to post something interesting, but to no avail). But, as RD once said - NO MAS. Not going back to that nonsense! Finally, apologies for the long post - but hopefully you will cut me some slack just this once as a first-time poster but long-time reader.
One final comment: The Magic is making me nervous. Someone please calm my nerves on that one (no, I'm not worried about VC, but its all those other big bodies over there)
Peace and Love to All

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
Bangla,
It's too early to be reassuring about the vulnerabilities of any team. But, in a sense, it's starting to seem that's not the point. Let's assume all of the contenders have improved: the Lakers (marginally perhaps), Cavs, Magic and Spurs in particular.
I'm starting to get to the admittedly dangerous "who cares?" stage. It almost doesn't matter how good they are. What matters is the sheer number of ways in which the Celtics are proving to be "good." From every perspective, the news is not just good, it's exceptional!
I mean, last night, there was Shaq doing his Shaq thing and bulling his way in for baskets. There was Lebron, absolutely intent on winning, throwing out a grandstand crowd-pleasing taunt when he made a good block.
And there was Perk just running away from Shaq on the offensive end. Forget Pierce...there was DANIELS shadowing Lebron and rendering him good but not great. And there was the crowd sitting on its hands. And there were KG, Ray, Baby and Scal in various locations but all not playing.
If there's one thing to be more excited about than anything else as a result of preseason, I'd say it's that these Celtics have more GOOD interchangeable parts than at any time since the Russell Years. Yes, it has just been preseason; but almost every combination Doc has thrown out there has taken hold and given an excellent account of itself. It's getting to the mind-boggling stage.
Personally, my only concern is being burned out by my enthusiasm prior to opening night.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
Sam, Excellent point. Its how good the Celts are (rather than the opposing team's vulnerabilities) that excites all of us about this year's prospects. Frankly, I think that, with all else remaining equal, this year's team might even compete with history.
