Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
Sam, and all samcelt forum fans,
Thank-you for the opportunity to share Celtic experiences, information, and personal insights in a forum format. Celtic basketball is a tradition, and teaches life skills from great Celtics Red, Russ, on down.
My name on Boston Globe site was irishmic, then irishmic1, so thank-ful that this site exists to share thoughts concerning many aspects of being a true fan of the game. I intend to contribute when I can, and will be a faithful reader, for me a review of the game report is so important (I work the 3-11 shift and frequently miss the live action.).
As Always,
irishmic

Mic,
The more you contribute, the better this forum will be for it.
We'll start a post-game thread the day after each game.

Hey. I missed this thread and posted on the welcome board instead, but I'll post it here also since it's what this thread is for.
I used to go by the sn of soxcelts34 and NoonwardRaceSC34 on bdc. I have transformed into MrGreenGenes here.
Hey Matty. I played for a softball team in your honor this summer. Team Hooters, sponsored by none other than your favorite establishment. Free softball, free wings, free hooters jerseys. Still had to pay for the beer, but who doesn't? Thought you might like that.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
I was directed here by the original "excitable boy" Jeb.....who hung tough through the "grim" years and reaped the benefits.
Born and bred in the suburbs of Newark--I spent my early NBA years watching the game of the Week on ABC with Chris Schenkel and soon to be partnered with Jack Twyman.Being from an athletic family I took up all sports early....but hoops was the thing for me.Bob Cousy was my hero---Left the mean streets of NJ to play college hoops in Mass. at Stonehill college 70-74----the down years for the Celts.
Left for Tennessee the summer of 80 and missed the resurgent years.Still here--love it and get back for games when I can.For now,I travel to Atlanta to see them.
I worked at Larry Siegried's basketball in Nashua for a few years--one year Cowens was suppose to be the guest speaker for the campers.Usually that meant the player would arrive the night before to mingle, hobnob with Red,who was usually around in his golf cart--but late that nite....no Dave,
following morning the campers are all seated on the main court,Siegfried and the counselors are deciding what to do since cowens is supposed to speaking at 10:00.Then ,down the windy hilly road you see a vw bug, dirt flying from the back wheels, pulls in front of the court and outta the BACK seat this undersized NBA center unfolds himself, and walks onto the court. He had hitchhiked.
One of my great pleasures was having a game at the end of each day on the main court and most times any "guest" players would join in.Being a Cousy fan,I took up the passing game early, and this particular night I had the fortune of guarding the great Johnny Egan--one of my early passing wizard heroes.
This is a great site---outside of checking in with ol'college celt buds and my great friend Jeb,NBA talk has been limited----proud to be here.

From the left coast....once upon a time in LA, now in the bay area, LACELTFAN, dropped the since62, (in Sam's eyes that probably makes me a relatively recent fan, a virtual newcomer)....and I dropped the -2 that the globe gave me for reasons that only they are privvy to...Nice to be on a board where you don't have to keep ducking and/or returning fire or living by the ignore button. Ah, yes.......... back to civil behavior, what a concept... LACELTFAN

An official welcome, LACeltFan. Don't worry...I think someone who followed the Celtics in 1962 is really, really, really old. LOL.

Hi to all of you, so many that i know from your BDC posts, so many i have enjoyed reading and learned from in the recent times since i've jumped in ... tried to contribute to discussions and jumped into some "troll wars" too, i won't miss those.
Bigpygme is my handle but Michael moved to Denver is my identity. Grew up in southern NH, staying up so very late late at night as a kid watching C's playoffs in the '60's, making occasional forays into the Garden off and on into young adulthood. Life took me to Conn, then North Carolina, back to N.E. on Cape Cod for a piece and then job stuff bounced me out to Denver, where we have about 300 sunny days a year ! Weather is wonderful here but i do miss Boston, it's a very special place and i know that you who live there still and post some know it.
it is WONDERFUL to join in with Sam's Club here and hear so much intelligent b-ball chat from all of you, the basketball intelligentsia !! <smile> i value all of your contributions. i do love it here, and especially like the Game-On threads with gyso and beat and Sam and others helping me see better what's going on in the game. At least, they were mainstays during preseason - we obviously have LOTS more participation now! A special thx to Sam, for figuring out how to get this going and especially for your warm welcome and extending yourself when i joined the BDC rooms.
Michael moved to Denver
Best wishes all -- should be a great season !!!

Welcome to the board Bob Heckler. Wow, you're back in NYC already? Weren't you just recently there? I hope the frequency doesn't signal any downturn in your family's health situation.
Best,

sam,
Actually, I'm back in CA today. I will be doing a 2-step between CA and NY for the rest of this year for the holidays.
The situation is still on the same trajectory, more or less. Nothing can or will change that. I left yesterday at noon and got a call from my sister at noon eastern that something happened while I was in the air. The beat (not LA) goes on.

Welcome to this wonderful site! Now I won't be reading you guys going back and forth with those idiots on the OTHER site. I have missed your thoughts on the new season. What do you think?
I have to tell you that after the first quarter last night, Shaq looked like an old, overweight basketball player. Any thoughts anyone?????

At the end of the game he looked like a real tired, real old basketball player.
Now Perk is not going to win any olympic sprints but compared to the ,buffet table Shaq, Perk is a greyhound!

Not so fast!! You are a Laker Fan, they are "laker fans". You talk basketball, they talk smack. You are welcome, they are not.
See, you ain't one of them!!!
Did I say Welcome?
See you around,
gyso
MG, since "graterlover" aka "graterhater" has now alleged that you are not a Laker fan and that LA is now a Clipper town, any chance we can convince you to start wearing Celtic green. You would make a great Celtic fan!!! Just thought I would give it a try!! We'll even give you a replica of the 2008 Championship ring with your picture etched on the side!!
Seriously, glad you are here. You, and Babyskyhook put friendship behind supporting your sports team.

Re: Let us know who you are; or were!
I really agree with you, Shaq looked awful. His first quarter was okay, for a while I was saying, oh oh, maybe this could work out. He has a long way to go to get in shape, plus learn the plays of the team. The rest of the guys just stood around and watched Lebron. What was the deal with Williams, he really didn't shoot at all, or Parker for that matter. I thought in the beginning that maybe Parker could be a problem, but, if they just stand around and watch him, it is going to be a long season for them. They miss Delonte.
Oh well, the game is on, I have to go watch!! I am glad I am not the only one who thought that about Shaq! GO CELTICS
