Re: If the Cavs Rescind...
Brinks trucks and damaged goods? We certainly have an interesting bag of assorted variables.
Don't get me wrong, I love IT as a player and he plays with as much heart as anyone I've ever seen. But I can't see him warranting a max deal. If I'm a GM (Ainge in this case), I'd have to consider what's best for the team moving forward. I don't think that signing IT to a max contract would be wise when there will probably be another major free agent/potential trade in the near future.
My question is: who suggested it was best for Isaiah not to get hip surgery? Was it Isaiah himself? The team physicians? *If* it was IT himself, then I'm afraid he likely left a great deal of money on the table.

We really don't know the medical situation. Some situations can't be corrected by surgery, or are chancy at best. There are many athletes who have chronic issues who are productive and make tons. It's odd that both Stevens and IT said he'd be okay, but now he's being kicked to the curb.
Unless IT plays close to a full season at a very high level he's probably looking at a short term prove-it deal. I think his best case is a Lowry type 100m 3 year deal - period.

At his age, and after this fiasco, I think his market value dropped in that he won't be able to demand those numbers.

Re: If the Cavs Rescind...
I think that IT should be More pissed at the Cavs. They're the ones who traded for him and then questioned his health leading to people now thinking that he is damaged goods. Yeah, I know. If the C's had not made the trade the Cavs would not have had the opportunity to question his health. But they did. The Cavs are unethical and IT may be pissed at us for trying to trade him, but hes better off here than with Gilbert and that circus. He should hate them for this. I know i do. Cancel this frigging trade now!bobheckler wrote:RosalieTCeltics wrote:If you watched the interview with IT it is apparent he is annoyed by the whole fiasco. Bringing him back here might not be as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I know it probably won't happen and the trade will go thru, but it has reached almost ridiculous proportions. They are making fools of themselves and dragging the Celtics along with it.
From what I have read, Jae Crowder is already walking around with CAV's attire on. So he is the one that would worry me.
Rosalie,
I agree. I'm not as worried about IT as Jae. Celtic fans treated him shabbily last year, cheering for Hayward when he came here to play us, sending him tweets putting him down. He'll come to play, if he's still here, but he'll be gone by the trade deadline. The fans will embrace IT when he suits up again and that will bring him back into the fold. Not so with Jae.

Re: If the Cavs Rescind...
By allowing himself to be interviewed by Wojo, he did something you never see. The trade has not been finalized, you never see a player talking before he is "literally" traded.
Yes, in that interview, his anger or disapproval was with Cleveland. He said "I haven't got any idea what Cleveland is doing". He was unhappy. This is a guy who was being as professional as he could, but in my honest opinion, this is a one year stay in Cleveland. He will be a free agent next year and I think he will get out and sell himself. Hopefully, for his sake, he will have a good year once he is back and be able to prove he is the guy he was before the injury.
One thing I did find interesting, he said that he first injured the hip against Minnesota when Townes landed on him. I thought it happened during the Washington series, but evidently, he reinjured it during that series and that was it for him.

You watching the idiots on Comcast?
I can live with a second round 2020 to the Cavs. Glad it's over!

Would IT be better off getting surgery after the trade is complete in an attempt to get at least 2 months in at the end of the season?

I feel bad for him too, he was simply incredible at times this past season and truly embraced Boston who also embraced him. He was a great Celtic.
Through Danny's cold analysis though I'm guessing there was no way, given IT's age and injury, that the Celtics would give him a max deal or even close to it.... while trading IT was an ice cold decision, I like the deal.
Time will tell on the deal as it always does, but regardless of how it turns out the deal should also be analyzed at the present moment. There are risks all around on this deal, but I think Danny made a good move.

. I hope IT eventually gets his money...and not from Cleveland. They treated him poorly creating doubt just for a 2020 2nd rounder. They're idiots. Hope he gets out of there once his contract is up!RosalieTCeltics wrote:I still feel really bad for IT. Thank God this mess is over

Re: If the Cavs Rescind...
This thread is going to peter out now that the trade is done but before it does I want to note it should end up with about 3000 views. When you consider it was only created 5 days ago, that is amazing! The record for most views by a thread with over 10,000 views was dboss' "Odds and Ends" thread, which covered any and all non-Celtic specific ideas and observations and was up for almost an entire season. So, 3000 in < 1 week is pretty impressive.

I hope IT regains his health, has a great season, and
gets to back up the Brinks truck somewhere.

Re: If the Cavs Rescind...
Even with an additional 2nd round pick, I still say the Celts are, by far, the winners of this trade.
It's clear now that IT is not fully recovered.
You can say the 2018 Brooklyn pick might turn into a future NBA star.
But you can also say IT might not end up being the same player as he was last season.
We won't know for sure for some time.
But right now, the Celts got a sure thing in Kyrie Irving.
Hoping that the 2018 Nets pick will end up a future star in the NBA is too big of a risk for the current Celtics team.
This current Celtics team is already on the verge of becoming a championship team.
No doubt in my mind Ainge made the right decision.
Also, this is one of those rare times where my favorite non-Celtic player ended up becoming a Celtic.
It's like a dream come true.
