Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
I have been saying this for a while. Embid is the second coming of Cousens.
He is a talented big who has no respect for the game and those true players who work hard every day. He has yet to play a full season. All of a sudden he can go off acting up yelling at ref's and getting away with it. It is time for them to make him pay the piper and call him on these actions.
Sorry Worcester, I disagree with you. The referees in the league today are disgusting.. It is time for the league to step forward and do something about it. And this is not in reference to the Celtics games. It is league wide. the discrepancies are outrageous. phantom calls are everywhere, travelling, (if you are going to call it on a point guard, how about calling it on a center too>), late calls like that foolish one against Jaylen the other night when the coach called for it and after listening to the coach, a foul was called that was non existent. Last night, James Harden was pushing off with his ard throwing his leg out, got called once during crunch time. So if this is good refereeing , I must be watching a different game than you.

That foul on Jaylen was such bullshit, he was in a perfect defensive stance, no contact, how can you call a foul at a crucial time of the game for playing textbook body up defense...???
There were bunch of times Giannis was driving and we had guys on him, one time Tatum blocked him clean and everytime it was a foul, such bullshit!!!!!! Refs gave him too many calls, I know he’s great, but make him earn it...!!!!!!

Is it me or are a lot of superstar little guards having problems? Kyrie had way too many bad iso possessions getting gobbled up by big frontline recently in 2 losses. Chris Paul got gobbled up at crunch time last night everytime he attempted a drive and Steph Curry couldn’t even hit layups last night bricking them thisclose to the basket with nobody on him....Kyle Lowry?

Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
the big issue is, these big's Embid, Giannis, do not need the ref's to help them out, they are talented enough. I have been saying all year that kyrie does not get the respect from the ref's that he deserves as a superstar. He gets fouled constantly and does not get to the line. Watch the games with an open mind, not a green one, and you will see what I mean. At least Curry gets to the line
As far as Lowry is concerned, his skill set has bone down hill this year. Th e Raptors will regret the day they let DeRozen go since I truly believe Leonard is going west. His body language after that last game proved it. And I think they know it.

Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
Kyrie has never averaged 5 free throws per game in any of his 8 seasons. Kyrie does not look for contact when driving to the basket like Harden does and IT did when he was with Boston. IT averaged 8.5 free throws per game in his last season with Boston.
Embiid, Harden and Giannis will probably continue to be in the top 5 in free throws per game due to their aggressive style of play. Curry has averaged fewer free throw attempts per game in his career than Kyrie. Curry obviously does not drive to the basket often looking for contact.

Here's some perspective on NBA refs:
This is a podcast from This American Life on the cultural dialogue that’s going on now about fairness. You can skip the first segment, but starting at minute 13 it picks up with about 30-min segment by Michael Lewis — author of “Money Ball” and “The Big Short” — about the lengths the NBA is going to these days to prove the fairness of its refereeing. As a BB fan, I think you will be intrigued and entertained.

Some very interesting comments in this article - some of which, in my opinion, are valid points in critiquing the evolution of basketball refereeing. A sport that is far more difficult to officiate than baseball and football - a profession that has officials making the call in real time while the fans now have the luxury of review in slow motion. Too many hairs to split in a game to expect the officials to be as accurate as slow motion.

Embid had a tough game today, he looked exhausted by the fourth quarter. They are riding him hard. They better be careful.
Leonard had a great game except for some turnovers. I believe he had 39 points. The funny thing about Leonard is that he hardly ever shows emotion during big tough games. Strange.

Denver and Portland having a heck of a series! Denver pulls out a win, in regulation, to tie it up 2-2.
Dude hit a shot from behind the backboard which I guess is now allowed under the rules. Never understood why it wasn’t allowed before.

Steve Kerr: Kevin Durant won't play in Game 6 vs. Rockets due to mild calf strain
Yahoo Sports Cassandra Negley,Yahoo Sports 2 hours 7 minutes ago
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn’t letting the lingering Kevin Durant question hang around between games.
Durant left the Warriors’ Game 5 victory over the Houston Rockets with a right calf strain in the third quarter and didn’t return. After undergoing an MRI, Durant was diagnosed with a mild strain. Durant will be re-evaluated next week, according to the team.
Kerr: Durant won’t play in Game 6
Durant landed awkwardly after a jump shot in the third quarter and clutched his lower leg. Kerr assured media after the Warriors took a 3-2 series lead it was not an Achilles injury. And about 30 minutes after the final buzzer, he squashed any doubt as to Durant’s status moving forward in a comment to Tim Kawakami of the Athletic.
“He’s not going to play Game 6 [in Houston],” Kerr told me late Wednesday. “We can all pretend and just say he’s doubtful. But he’s not playing Game 6.”
Shaun Livingston said the team decided to “react with a win,” per The Athletic. They can clinch the series and a spot in the Western Conference finals with a win Friday in Houston.
Is Durant out for the playoffs?
Kerr told The Athletic:
“Hopefully, we get Kevin back at some point.”
Game 7, if necessary, is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Oracle Arena.
Durant has taken over the playoffs for the two-time champions. He’s averaging a team-high 34.2 points per game with 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
Stephen Curry is averaging a second-best 23.5 points for Golden State. He and Klay Thompson each scored at least 25 points for the first time this playoffs in the Game 5 victory.

ESPN is reporting that KD will not travel to Houston and his calf will be reevaluated next week. Possible game 7 is Sunday, highly unlikely that he'd be able to play.

Aside from GSW being my local team, and I try to root for the local teams when they aren't playing one of MY teams, every year James Harden is denied is a good year for me. Denied a title, denied the MVP, denied. Let's see him flop his way through that...

Amazing how Steph responded, can’t believe how shitty Kyrie was for 16 consecutive quarters, he couldn’t even give us one good half in 4 straight games...??? Sooner or later stars/superstars respond, Kyrie turned into a quitter, the next Deron Williams....Remember him telling the media after game 2, don’t worry that’s why they brought me here. How’d that workout...????

The Canadian Parliament just passed an emergency measure restricting Kawhi from signing with any American team.
Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
That was one hell of a shot, Embid must be in shock right now. I really thought Toronto would win this early and put it away. I hate to say it but I give Philly credit, they gave it a great fight. Now the fun begins in PA. We are not the only ones with players possibly ready to fly the coup. Maybe this will convince Kwahi to stay in Toronto.

New trend going on in the NBA, teams are going big again....
Toronto’s crunch time/best line up was Lowry Leonard Siakim Ibaka Gasol, that line up was great defensively and repeatedly shut down 76ers numerous times in 4th. Bucks have went all the way big with Bledsoe Middleton Giannis Mirotic Lopez....we couldn’t do squat against that line up, they completely swallowed up Kyrie, we better get some bigs

Cow,
All of those players can shoot from outside. Leonard and Giannis are GREAT creators. Siakem is LONG. Not a beast so much as too long for most players on offense and defense. They all have length and a speed merchant. Lopez and Gasol are traditional bigs, with an outside game, and Middleton is a lethal gunner, but the rest are these "bigs" you're talking about are this new NBA long and and able to run and play multiple positions type of players.
Length at point seems to be a good trend. Giannis, Luka, both aren't traditional point guards but fill the role with the height to be able to see over most defenders or blow past them. This is the type of player we need. We need a tall point guard. I wonder if Memphis would trade us Kyle Anderson (aka "The Big Slo-Mo). Who else?

Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
Bob I’ve seen little guards struggle throughout the playoffs and playoffs are real, in teams are forced to use what works to survive. Paul, Lowry, Kyrie, Curry, Lillard have all had important games where they struggled, getting eaten up by the defense....Bledsoe also struggled, but he’s on a team so deep and his teams defense was so good, it didn’t matter. Curry had multiple bad games, but he came thru big time in that second half. Kyrie couldn’t do shit and didn’t even seem to care, just bad weak shot after shot....

Re: 2019 Playoff Thread
Toronto-Milwaukee should be great match up, Siakim and Ibaka will take turns defending Greek Freak and Gasol still has size and beef. Kawhi vs Middleton should be good match up. Middleton has really developed such a polished complete offensive game and Kawhi just a beast both ends....shuts down whoever he is on.
As good as were last year, these other teams have added pieces and surpassed us.
